Leveling Up My Husband to the Max

Nuova4-5 minutes 12.04.2022

“Kalix, did you just…” Bella was so surprised she couldn’t find the words to say. Unable to say anything else, she simply stood there repeatedly opening and closing her mouth.

Amber felt the gazes from everyone concentrated on her, and barely stopped herself from biting her lips at the pressure.

‘I have to tend to Jenia’s wounds though…’ But to ignore her husband’s request and tend to a maid she had never met before would not reflect well.

“Yes, shall we?” In the end, Amber nodded at Kalix’s request.

“You, take care of that maid. Don’t bring her to the underground kitchen, take her to a separate room and let her lie there,” Kalix ordered Dennis.

Thankfully Kalix was not a master that mistreated his underlings. Perhaps due to the fact that he was raised as the ruler of the barren lands of the East, he was especially generous to those injured.

Hearing that Jenia would be properly taken care of, Amber let out a sigh of relief and went to Kalix.

“Please come this way, Madam,” Kalix called Amber to the small study located within the castle. Seeing as how it was on the first floor, it seemed to only be used for situations like this.

Kalix closed the door once Amber stepped inside the study. Only the two were left inside as the door shut with a click.

“…”

“…”

For a long time, a suffocating silence pervaded in the room.

“You skipped breakfast,” It was Kalix who spoke first. He wasn’t looking at Amber, and stared intensely out the window as he spoke with an indifferent tone of voice. “Was it so that you could go to the laundry area?”

Amber flinched. She couldn’t have possibly imagined that he would care that she skipped her breakfast and actually wonder why.

“Why did you go to the laundry area?”

“I apologize, I didn’t mean to cause a commotion,” Thinking that Kalix was faulting Amber for the incident, she quickly apologized. It wasn’t a fake apology to avoid the situation. She truly was sorry that she had caused a commotion within the castle on the first day after their marriage. “I had something I needed to do.” Still, not wanting to just sit there and listen to Kalix harshly reprimand her, Amber clarified her reason. When she thought of Jenia, her shoulders reflexively tensed and the voice that came out was more determined than she thought.

Amber and Kalix’s eyes unconsciously met. Kalix seemed slightly surprised.

As Amber lifted up her hand to her lips at the realization of her mistake, it was already too late to take it back.

“As the master of this castle, you should have simply told me beforehand.”

Hearing Kalix, Amber forgot her anxious feelings and let a tired laugh escape her mouth.  “I would never request anything from you anyway, Your Excellency.”

“What do you mean by that?” Kalix spoke in such a stiff tone that his voice was almost unnatural.

‘Oh dear, was that too much of an attack on his pride?’ Amber worried at his response.

Kalix was raised from a young age by military people and naturally grew to be an authoritative figure. His management of the knights and mercenaries under his command was so detailed and minute that he was called a control freak. Whatever action was taken, he ensured that it went through him first.

It was obvious that he would be offended by her words that seemed to completely ignore him. “I… didn’t mean anything by it, really.” Amber tried to make an excuse, but it was just a moment too late and Kalix’s expression didn’t improve at all.

As Amber couldn’t think of an excuse she could use to alleviate the situation, she simply kept her mouth shut. She was sick of constantly blabbering every time Kalix kept his mouth shut. She would always feel the energy being sapped from her body when met with his silence.
