The words that came out of Lariette’s mouth were quite unexpected.

“None of my friends tend to plants. The other noble daughters my age all ask me why I don’t enjoy horse riding or hunting with the boys.”

Amber then realized that Lariette was just 15 years old.

“Other children go around saying that I don’t have enough courage, which is why I stay home all the time.”

Lariette was acknowledged at the age of 24 by the mages of the tower and developed self-respect and pride for her work and research.

But the current Lariette was just a young girl, highly influenced by the friends her age.

“Honestly, even when I read the letter the Duke sent that you wanted to look at my plants, I thought you were just half-heartedly mentioning them.” Lariette spoke as she looked at each individual potted plant. “Gardening… isn’t a hobby that suits the Eastern Lands, after all.”

The popularity of hobbies would wane and grow depending on the time and place.

Sometimes it was embroidery, sometimes it was dessert making, sometimes it was a picnic that required a broad brimmed hat.

In the Eastern Lands, lively hobbies tended to be popular.

When the land was fertile, peaceful hobbies like fishing or winemaking were the most popular activities.

After the mysterious drought struck the land, nobles started to gravitate towards more aggressive hobbies like hunting or shooting.

After the mysterious drought affected the land and made it barren, the nobles focused on aggressive hobbies like hunting or shooting arrows.

‘Around the time I married, horse riding and hunting in the forest became quite popular.’

The praise that the people had for the Duke’s skill in swordsmanship peaked amongst the public, leading to ridicule of hobbies like gardening..

Amber understood Lariette’s feelings more than anyone else. She was also afraid of leaving her room just a while ago, after all.

Amber could still remember the people who would point their fingers and laugh at her for hiding in fear.

“Miss Lariette.” Amber reached out and placed her hand on top of Lariette’s. Lariette shivered as she slowly lifted her face to look at Amber. Droplets of water lined her eyes.

“I will say this once more, I do not think your hobby is silly.” Amber wished genuinely that her words would reach Lariette’s heart, andspoke with care and compassion witheach word.

“What you are doing is something that’s truly of value. If you were to stop looking after plants and choose to pick up a bow, I would be there to try and stop you.”

Though tears were still forming at the corners of Lariette’s eyes, she couldn’t help but to let out a giggle. “Thank you for your words of consolation.” Though Lariette was thankful, she didn’t think Amber was truly serious.

“No, I would be really troubled.” Suddenly, Amber’s orange eyes shined brightly.

For a moment, Lariette her tears as she was mesmerized at the quietly burning embers within Amber’s eyes. Her heart thawed at the warmth of Amber’s eyes and Lariette quickly realized that Amber was speaking honestly.

“You… really think that way?” Lariette asked in a shaking voice.

“Of course.” Amber spoke with a bright smile on her lips.

At the sight of such an Amber, Lariette found herself close to tears again. The deep worry she held within her over the continued research on her beloved plants were relieved by Amber.

But even so, she was still surprised at Amber’s next words.

“You need to discover the crop that grows well in the Eastern Lands, after all.”

“Excuse me?” Lariette asked with a dumbfounded expression. She couldn’t understand just what she heard from Amber.
