#31 - Chapter 31 Author's Note
Thank you to all the readers for your support. Writing silently and updating promptly is my only way to repay you. I didn't want to take up your time, but to clear up some readers' misunderstandings, I must say a few words.
First, I solemnly declare that I am male. My pen name is taken from a poem by Shao Yong, a philosopher, mathematician, and poet of the Northern Song Dynasty: "Though flowers fall frequently, my heart remains at ease."
I wonder if this pen name has led some readers to mistakenly believe I am a female author? I feel compelled to clarify this. I used this pen name only to embody the idea of "a heart at ease," with no intention of misleading anyone.
Furthermore, I have a rigid personality and belong to the type of person who would "rather be beaten to death than scared to death." My personality is a bit stubborn, earning me the nickname "Stubborn Tank."
After a brief introduction of my characteristics, let's get to the main topic. The protagonist of this novel is partly a reflection of myself, such as starting martial arts at six, long-distance running at eleven, and frequently getting into fights as a child.
Later, there will be descriptions of the protagonist fighting, which come from my own fighting experiences combined with artistic embellishment. Please do not imitate.
I solemnly declare again that I don't like fighting and even less like causing trouble. Like the protagonist, I only act in self-defense.
The above is to prove that I am not female, which required me to say a few extra words. Now, let's talk about the issues raised in the comments.
Frankly speaking, I was quite surprised by the content of the comments. I specifically searched online for the concept of "literary youth syndrome," and I was even more surprised. But to shorten the length, let me explain "literary youth syndrome" from the following two aspects.
First, let's talk about the issue of being a "homebody." My previous job was very masculine, requiring me to face all kinds of people and things. I came into contact with many complex individuals, and I had to rack my brains to deal with all kinds of problems, which gave me rich social experience and problem-solving skills.
In other words, readers who want to understand social and legal issues can consult me (I am familiar with administrative law and have some knowledge of criminal and civil law).
Back to the main topic, let's talk about the comments on "three obediences and four virtues." This is the comment that surprised me the most, and it is also the main reason I want to talk about it.
The protagonist is a character I created, and shaping this character inevitably carries some of my subjectivity. This subjectivity is greatly influenced by my parents' education. They told me, "You should listen to the elders even if you don't like what they say. You should appreciate it when others express goodwill towards you. Be polite to others, and be responsible..."
My parents are both ordinary workers. I don't know if they time-traveled from the Qing Dynasty? But because they educated me this way, I can't write a positive image that deviates from these requirements. If you think this is "three obediences and four virtues," then it is "three obediences and four virtues." I am working hard to reverse the image of the Stubborn Tank, so I won't argue with you.
Now we can talk about "literary youth syndrome." Is it because of the aforementioned "three obediences and four virtues"? I admit that I am quite ill and will not argue anymore.
Finally, let's talk about my motivation for writing. "Love in the Courtyard" is the only urban drama I have watched from beginning to end in recent years. I heard that there are courtyard novels online, so I read some. When I had different ideas, I wanted to write one myself. It's that simple.
In terms of writing, I pursue maximum rationalization. To this end, I have read many articles introducing the customs of the 1960s, and I have also consulted some elderly people who experienced the 1960s.
Based on this, I do artistic processing, so I won't write about opening factories and being a boss. In that era, hiring someone would make you an exploiter and you would be criticized.
I also won't write about rebelling against everything. People who do this, if they have a work unit, the leaders will come to scold you; if they don't have a work unit, the neighborhood committee aunties and the local police will come to scold you. Ideological education was very common in that era. How dare you disobey?
I admit that my thinking is a bit conservative. I believe that artistic processing should have a limit. The plot of urban novels should not drastically change the social landscape of the time. This is an extremely irresponsible attitude towards readers who might time-travel to that era. Time-travelers who act without limits will definitely die quickly.
But this limit makes me pursue the ancient saying "reading is beneficial" in my writing. Fearing that I can't reach this level, I try not to express negative emotions. I like sunshine, and I am satisfied if I can bring readers a moment of sunshine.
If the above words are not satisfactory, please criticize and correct me.
