Chapter 11 The Beginning of Mix Training
Chapter 11 – The Beginning of Mix Training
"S-sir, will they be alright?"
"That's none of your business."
"…"
Nobody could utter a word of protest or express their personal opinion. The fate of the recruits was grim, yet the officers did not want to mention it as if it was nothing to do with them.
"S-sir? Is it possible to log out and change our class mid-way?"
"No. We've warned you beforehand that there's no turning back. By the way, we've locked your log-out button in your game menu. If you want to change your class that badly, you will have to go through with our training until your capsule auto-eject you from the game."
Many of them wanted to retort the drill sergeant. Since they had the authority to disable their log out button, why did they not disable it during the test for their safety?
The drill sergeant grinned and resumed their training despite the dissatisfied look of every student.
…
Six days passed in-game since the day Misha and others died by zombies.
Sgt. Joan still acted as the drill sergeant in the boot camp as if nothing had happened. However, there were changes.
Joan's orders and training intensified as she knew that Misha went through the reserve training. As a non-NPC, Misha's title had no effect on Joan, so she went all out.
"Keep crawling! Don't raise your head up!"
Misha in a blue training uniform, which was embedded with 20kgs of extra weight, were crawling in the muddy ditch. Her face half-sank into the muddy water as she struggled to move forward.
'Isn't this the training of a marine? Why am I doing this?'
Though Misha questioned the training process, she had no choice but to obey the order of the drill sergeant. Besides, Joan could give out quests as ordinary NPCs could do.
Behind Misha, several others who joined the Psychic Department also crawled in the same ditch as well.
Initially, there should have been 49 others, but there were 26 recruits left in this boot camp, including Misha. The four people who had chosen the Navy and Marine were not in the group anymore.
"We're supposed to train in the psychic arts! Why did they give us this training?"
"We're screwed! All drill sergeants here are not NPCs!"
"I think they're the residents here. You know, the soul transfer?"
"Not possible! They knew about our identity outside of the game. Will a resident know about this?"
"What's not possible? They can communicate anytime they want."
Joan glared at the gossiping psychic recruits, "All of you but those five, get out of the water!"
Misha looked back and saw the dirty faces of use-to-be-gorgeous men. She stood and climbed out of the muddy moat.
<<Ding>>
<<Because of the insubordination of your colleague, you have failed the [Moat Training] quest>>
The system messages revealed in front of all people who got out of the ditch, which angered everyone.
Misha's eyes were bloodshot as she glared at the five men inside the mud.
Joan bellowed at standing recruits, "All of you lots, Neck Bridge!"
Misha gulped as she understood the order. The entire platoon got punished instead of the five, which was a common practice to shape the recruits unity and discipline as a team.
Misha lied down on her back and raised her torso using her neck, legs, and back. She finished the posture while she crossed her arms under her chest.
The other recruits could not follow after the order. They stared at each other and Misha in confusion as they could not comprehend what was [Neck Bridge].
Joan frowned, "You stinky spoiled brats don't even know what a Neck Bridge is? Have you ever hit the gym at all? No? Of course not, you pieces of lowlife got it easy! All you need to do is getting a shot at a hospital and voila, a strong body!"
Joan pointed on the ground, "Plank! Recruit Misha, you too."
It was a short command of drill sergeant command that everybody had heard at least once. They straightened their back while keeping elbows, forearms, and the tip of their feet on the ground into a plank exercise posture.
"The five of you in the holy water, keep crawling. As for the rest of you, stay in that position until these five fools finish five laps!"
Everyone who was planking almost vomited blood. Planking sounded easy at a glance, but it required a lot of body muscle and trained nerve to maintain the position for a long time.
The bad news was, it usually took at least an hour to complete a ditch crawling lap.
'Bastards! Thanks to you, I failed my quest!'
'You're dead after we get back to the barrack.'
'I know your real identity in the real world. I'll make sure you pay for this!'
Hatred and resentment were directed to the five recruits who gossiped earlier.
Misha, who was also in a foul mood, bit her lower lips. However, everybody's mood got better when they saw the game logs.
<<You have maintained the plank position for one minute>>
<<VIT EXP has increased by 100>>
<<STA EXP has increased by 100>>
<<You will gain bonus EXP if you maintain it for one hour>>
For each attribute to level up and increase its value, they had to gain 10,000 EXP for each level.
Misha's eyes lit up. It was a rare chance to grind some VIT EXP that she lacked. Furthermore, the EXP rate per minute was generous as the training usually yield 500 to 1,000 EXP for one training session.
'Bonus time!' Misha and all recruits thought.
…
Six hours later, the five recruits completed their five laps.
Misha and twenty psychics still glared at the five with resentment, yet their face revealed a smile.
"How much have you gained?"
"Two VIT and STA. You?"
"Same. I can't get that one hour bonus. I have to rest for each five-minute session."
"Only monsters and freaks can get that. Who could have maintained the plank for one hour straight wearing this extra weight suit anyway."
Misha jolted when she heard the whispering.
<<Your longest plank record: Thirty-five minutes, and six seconds>>
'Yeah, that person has to be a monster.'
Misha also failed to get that one hour bonus. However, she got 2 additional attributes to VIT and STA as well.

The condition for the graduation from the boot camp was level 10, and all attributes beside LUC had to be higher than 100, which Misha lacked VIT and STA.
'I should plank whenever I have free times in the barrack. I wonder if I can hit over 100 once the one-month-training was over. What will happen to the people who can't meet the requirement, I wonder?'
