CHAPTER 87

"Good. Keep me posted and do not fail me."

'I won't father. I would not fail."

"Okay." He ended the call and sighed. He had not expected things to go on like this and take this long. He had planned the takeover flawlessly and knew that by now he would be called the Mafia Lord but things did not go according to plan as his men attacked before Jade came downstairs.

And now he had to suffer the wait while looking for a girl who did not want to be found.

Just like that, Jay and Macy's relationship progressed into something enchanting. She tried her best in getting to know Jay and she did not regret doing so.

Up till the present day, Jay did not still mention anything about sex top her. He simply allowed her to take her time and see for herself how much he loved her and he was doing well.

No longer was the bitterness she felt when she thought of Sky there. Sometimes she felt bad but when she shared her fears with Jay, he was there to help her see the light of things.

But as Macy was finding her happiness, Jade was not left out as well. In other, for Xander not to know the full extent of her story or the real truth of her life, she went on a low key and left her men to do the scouting for Anders's men.

It had been a while since she spoke to Arctic and a part of her was missing the only father figure she had left and she did not want to allow anything to happen to him as well.

It was on a weekend and she decided to call him and check on him to see how he was doing. She was beginning to feel uncomfortable and needed him back in Star Cross City with her.

At least here she knew that the Anders were of a lesser threat to her and that was satisfyingly peaceful to her heart. She did not know what she would do if anything were to happen to him as well.

"Hello," Jade's melodious voice rang out from the other end of the phone.

"Boss, good afternoon." Even though he was like a father to her, he still liked to keep things professional. It was how he was with her father and he accorded her that same respect.

"Afternoon Arctic. Long time." A small smile appeared on her face and her heart relaxed. She had been worried sick about him but hearing his voice had eased her aching heart and she could smile more, now.

"Yes, a long time. I guess you have been fine?" Arctic asked her. He knew but still felt like asking.

"Yes. Thank you. And you?"

"I have been okay. I gave Zale's men a good lead on me. It was to keep their focus here for a longer period of time."

"That is risky, Arctic and you know it. I think you have turned their direction well enough, return please."

"I cannot do that. I cannot allow them to start searching for you again at Star Cross City."

"Let them search, they cannot find me. My disguise is perfect."

"True but with the stunt you pulled on their last meeting, letting Tony have a good look at how skilled you are was a very bad move, Jade." Now he wasn't talking to her as her subordinate but as her father.

They were all they had left and he wasn't about to lose her like he did lose her parents. Nope. Not on his watch.

"Arctic," Jade started to say but he cut her short.

"Not a word of defence Jade. You knew what you were doing was dangerous and that I would kick against it, yet you went ahead to do it without even informing me first. What was worst was that you got injured. Bravo, Jade, brava."

"Arctic."

"Were you even thinking when you went ahead with such a risky plan? Did you think one bit?"

"Yes, I did."

"I doubt that. Because if you did, you wouldn't have tried that rubbish."

She knew he meant well but she wasn't just going to let him talk her down about it. "Arctic," She called his name softly again, even though she was getting angry.

"No Jade, you need to hear this."

"No, I do not!"

"Jade."

"Arctic!" Jade yelled out his name. "I am not a kid anymore nor am I a silly little girl toying with the big toys. No, I am an adult, a completely grown orphaned adult. I know the pain and I have experienced it firsthand. I would not sit down and wait till the day Anders come to find me and fish me out of my hole like a rabbit caught by the predator. No way!"

"Jade."

"I won't hear of it. Ye what I did may have been risky but so was yours. How could you just leave me? What if you ended up getting caught? Did you think about the mental implication it would cost me? No. So before you lecture me on risk-taking, check yourself."

Arctic took a deep breath and allowed her words to sink into his mind. They both had a point and both of them had faulted. Nevertheless, she was a grown-up adult and one that could take care of herself.

Yes, there was a mistake, still… It was Jade he was talking about and not just anyone could hurt her.

There was no man amongst her father's men that could compare to her. Her skills were top-notch but due to the fact that he had lost her parents, he wanted to shield her from all forms of hurt and pain possible.

In doing so, he was not giving her the freedom to live her life and make her mistakes, while seeking her vengeance but was caging her. She was a free-spirited bed and needed to be set free.

After all, she was going to be the next Mafia Lord in Moon Crest City.
