Magus Of Possibilities

Chapter -24 - Thaumaturgical Theories

Equivalent Exchange- The primary rule of Thaumaturgy. In order to create something, another object must be given as a price. It may also involve modification to an existing object. The base of all Thaumaturgy is the use of magical energy to produce something that either already exists or can exist. That which falls into the Phantasm category, something made entirely out of images and might not even exist naturally anymore, will eventually be wiped out by the world for being in conflict with this rule.

Idol Theory- the term used to refer to the phenomenon wherein an imitation of a whole or parts of a subject, the source, gains properties and attributes that are inherent to that source. It is used as an explanation on how something draw their power, and how they wield it .Example of possible sources include things like concept, mystery, legend or principle behind it. It is also known as Imitative Magic Rule and is the opposite of Infection Magic Rule.

Infection Magic Rule- the infection category could use object such as hairs, fingernails, or other parts of the body such an eye. The most popular forms of curse magic would remotely attack the target by destroying a piece of one's target using a special method. This states that things which have once been in contact with each other supposedly continue to act on each other at a distance even after physical contact has been severed.

Mystery- It is the source of all supernatural phenomena this is a sliver of power of many different types that comes from the Root.

Mystery accumulates over time and grows stronger with age but if two different types of Mysteries collide with one another, the stronger Mystery will overwhelm the weaker one. A obvious example would be how magecraft and magic are things that are on a different league. The strength of a mystery depends on the culmination psions and pushions regarding that mystery

Elements-Depending on the teachings of Magecraft schools, one could classify everything of reality into different sets of Elements. the attribute which you can at manipulate at least one of them. However, there are cases of those who can manipulate Elements that are completely different from any of the ones specified below.

The Four Elements are believed to reflect the simplest essential parts and principles of which anything consists or upon which the constitution and fundamental powers of anything are based. In various cultures, religions, and belief systems in the world, the four elements are inexplicably connected to various things, which represent the balance in the world.

There are four classical elements in Western cultures and if counting the 5th element, quintessence or ether, it matches the 5 elements of Eastern cultures.

The four elements in Western traditions also have a pair of Aristotelian qualities ȧssigned to them; either Hot or Cold , and either Dry or Wet .

there are the Five Elements in oriental philosophies (Water, Fire, Earth, Wood and Metal) and Twelve Constellations.

Thaumaturgical Attribute is one of the components that determines magecraft's effectiveness. Attributes add meaning to elemental magecraft and expand its versatility. There are multiple types, such as Reinforcement, Projection and Conversion. Generally, each magus' lineage is specialized in a certain attribute. This is dependent on generations of research, and the types of mysteries engraved in the Magic Crest. Thus, family attributes cannot be changed in the short term. However, first rate magi tend to possess multiple attributes.

Under the system of Magecraft, Origins are used to describe precise details about a magus, while Elemental Affinity indicates one's general alignment which is further explained on a different note.

All of them contributes to a Thaumaturgical Foundation

A Thaumaturgical Foundation is a Thaumaturgical Theory "engraved" upon the World in the form of scholarship or religion ─ a body of pre-established rules, fomented per the faith of the populace. It is also called a Greater Magic Formula as a cluster of Magic Formulae , each of which runs a Magecraft(program) written within it when a Mage sends a command through their Magic Circuits to it.In other words, Foundations are necessary for the usage of Magecraft.

If it is believed that the subject of a Mystery "exists," the World permits its existence. Definite affirmation of said belief is not required. For example, even though the majority of modern humans reject the existence of ghosts, modern science cannot outright demonstrate that they do not exist, and, thus, within the unconscious, there lurks the vague suspicion that "they might indeed exist." This sort of "suspicion" falls under the category of "faith." "Ignorance" is the force that opposes "faith." If the existence of ghosts is itself utterly unknown, faith cannot foment.

Each Thaumaturgical School has its own Foundation and the further a user is away from their Foundation, the weaker the effect of their Magecraft becomes. In any case, if faith in a mystery is widely disseminated, a relevant Thaumaturgical Theory gains robustness. For a Theory weak in faith, "the power that engraves" is similarly infirm, and in other nations where its mystery is wholly unknown, implementation of descendant magecraft fails.

Then this will be what is used to create a Thaumaturgical System which is similar to an operating system in a computer whereas Thaumaturgical Foundation will be like the software then the magus is the computer itself which have it's own specs which would refer to the quality and quantity of the magic circuits, prana reserves acting like the power supply and switch, elemental affinity and origin
