Married To A Savage Duke
Chapter 41.2
“It’s a reasonable order, milord. However, there are watchtowers placed near the borders at regular intervals, so if a savage descends from an unknown territory, we can detect it at any time. Therefore, it is not necessary to tear down the mayor’s villa or take his life—-”
“You talk too much”
Cade cut him off.
Then, a tall man, exuding a sense of intimidation, approached Tyrone.
A large hand grabbed his shoulder and he felt the weight of a thousand pounds press down on his body.
However, the hand on his shoulder simply patted his back and quickly withdrew.
“I’ll send someone over, so do it within this day.”
“ I will do as you command, milord.”
Tyrone bowed so low that everyone could see the top of his head before he hurried out of the watchtower.
Hawk glowered at the stairs Tyrone had just descended and spoke, “Why did you let the previous duke’s assistant live? We aren’t even sure if he’s reliable.”
“Tyrone is logical and competent. In addition to that, he had been serving Carsvik territory for a long time so we need to keep him close.”
Hawk shook his head in disapproval.
“I know that you’ve just assigned him to become a watchman and study that treacherous bastard’s every move but I’m still not reassured.”
“Why are you asking me if you know the answer? I will just kill him if it’s necessary.”
Cade briefly dismissed it.
Unlike the butler, who only managed the internal affairs in the castle, an assistant had to grasp the conditions of a vast territory.
The assistant also performs administrative duties, supervises, attracts various domestic and foreign activities, and acts as an agent in the lord’s absence.
Balkan men, who showed extraordinary talent in slaughter, were also important, but Cade needed Tyrone as his assistant to rule the largest territory in the empire without difficulty.
Tyrone came from a family that had supported high-ranking nobles for six generations, and he valued the duty and honor of his family, so it would be difficult for him to nurture the seeds of betrayal.
Cade only trusted his talent and temperament to preserve his family’s reputation.
As an adopted child, he had also read early on that Tyrone secretly hated the previous Duke.
Since both of them hated the same duke, Tyrone was a character that he could fully accept even if he was a bystander to Cade’s suffering.
Reflecting on the past, Cade examined the barrier separating the border dryly.
Fortunately, those annoying threats were out of sight.
Even though they completely crushed the Onyx tribe descending from the south a month ago, those bastards still attempted another invasion after that.
Cade identified the savage tribe, which they would likely have to engage in conflict with after they come down to Carlsvik, as a part of his past life full of endless wars.
Thanks to this, they were able to suppress them easily the moment they tried to climb the barrier.
However, Cade was more careful than ever due to the small scratches on the barrier.
If he led a large-scale military force as he did a few years ago to subjugate the wildlings across the border, he could have eliminated the danger without a problem.
However, there was only one reason why he couldn’t go to the Northern Expedition now.
He couldn’t leave Cherryl in the Great Wall for a long time.
There would be no huge problem if they made an effort to strengthen security while adding more troops in all of the watchtowers near the barrier.
Compared to those days when his stepfather managed his territory, the improved security still wasn’t able to give him a sense of stability.
Winter was just around the corner, so there would be more people who would plunder the Southern civilization’s food source.
“Let’s go down.”
Cade spoke, glowering at the structure covering the corner of the barrier.
He still had a lot of work to be done within the day.
Documents needing his approval were piled up on his desk including the letters from the Balkan tribe staying across the border.
He still had to inspect each and everyone of them to keep them in check.
Since the day he slept with Cherryl, he had never gone to bed to focus on his work schedule but they were endless.
He wasn’t that exhausted but there were times when he felt deep fatigue due to heightened sensitivity throughout the day.
At times like this, he wanted to sleep peacefully next to Cherryl’s small frame and lock her soft, warm flesh in his embrace.
Cade couldn’t believe that his desire was becoming too overwhelming even though he might go through the same ordeal the next morning.
He chuckled in amazement.
Noticing his laughter, Hawk asked curtly. “Why are you laughing alone again?”
Cade ignored Hawk and went down the stairs.
He couldn’t afford to answer his subordinates’ useless questions with the thoughts filling his head.
Cherryl could refuse to sleep with him for no reason or consider Cade a sly and shameless fox.
Since she knew how to repay him, he should do her favor like last time and then ask for what she wanted.
He couldn’t wait to have the wedding ceremony and sleep in the same room, but why did it feel like it was in a far distant future?
As he kept contemplating, Cade entered the hall at the main castle’s top floor.
Cade happened to encounter Albert, who was sweeping in front of the library entrance with a broom.
“My lord.”
Albert seemed happy when he faced Cade as he gave him a respectful bow.
He nodded and tried to pass by, but his remarks caught him by the ankle.
“What a coincidence, milord. The lady is at the library right now.”
