Married To A Savage Duke
Chapter 47.1
When Cherryl saw Cade glancing heavenward without a word, she tilted her chin and turned her head toward the night sky where Cade’s eyes were embedded.
A full moon was half hidden behind slow-floating clouds.
Was it because of the full moon?
In her blurry memories of well over twenty years, Cherryl recalled a fact like lightning.
The Balkans, who inherited the blood of wolves, were unusually violent on the night of the full moon.
In this particular novel about death and killing, a sentence described Cade possessing the infamous Balkan temperament where he became rough in the full moon.
It would often help him win victories in hundreds of wars.
That was all she knew about werewolves.
Cade had no other traits described in the novel, which had no romance in the first place, and nothing else could be read even between the lines.
Cherryl looked at Cade’s complexion with a puzzled face.
‘He wouldn’t go berserk right here right now, right?’
The man in front of her was still staring at Cherryl without showing any vicious energy despite the white moonlight falling on him but the slow and loud throbbing of his chest indicated that he was trying hard to suppress something.
“Vicious rumors had been circulating and people had stopped visiting this place a few years ago.”
Cade’s low voice was deeply subdued when he gave her a belated answer.
Cherryl knew he wouldn’t hurt her but goosebumps still broke at the back of her neck.
Keeping a few steps away from him, Cherryl asked cautiously.”What kind of rumor was it?”
“It’s about a wolf pack in the forest hurting lost people and eating children as well as maidens.”
“Ah.”
Cherryl remembered him talking about raising hundreds of wolves by feeding them.
“The rumor is false, right?”
Quickly reading the anxiety in her eyes, Cade exhaled a deep sigh and slowly took one step closer.
“Of course it is. It’s a rumor that has stemmed from my wolves’ howling. The tamed wolves are trained not to harm people without orders, and they never come near private homes.”
“It’s a rumor that originated from the cries of my wolves.Of course not. Wolves on grazing are trained to not harm people without orders, and never approach private homes.”
So if an order was issued, could they harm people as much as they want?
It was a bit concerning but she was sure that Cade wouldn’t kill Cherryl as well as the locals.
Cherryl took a fresh look around the lonely forest.
“So there’s a reason why no one is around here. What a terrible rumor.”
“It isn’t exactly unreasonable for such rumors to circulate. After all, wolves are cruel and wild.” Cade muttered before gesturing at the crossroads.
“Shall we walk a little? I want to show you something further down.”
Cade, who calmly took the first step, was followed by Cherryl.
Carving their footsteps on the grassy forest path, she suddenly heard a pleasant sound.
The moment she raised her gaze, she witnessed the full moon amid the stars shining through the leaves of tall coniferous trees.
“It’s so pretty.”
Cherryl glanced at Cade walking about half a step ahead.
Then, she hesitantly stretched out her arm to grab at his fingertips.
Cade stared at her hand with a slightly stiff countenance before raising his gaze to meet her eyes.
His pursed lips lifted at the corners as he held the delicate hand only gripping his knuckles and interlocking their fingers together.
The two walked leisurely in the forest with the moon as their source of light.
The forest path, which Cherryl had feared walking alone in the middle of the night, turned into something romantic just by Cade’s presence.
A tiny light flashed past Cherryl’s eyes.
“What is that?”
Her gaze unconsciously followed the bright yellow glow of the firefly floating in the air at a slow speed while drawing a sharp curve as if it were attracting Cherryl.
Enjoying Cherryl’s attention, it glittered like a small starlight before hiding beyond the lush forest.
It wasn’t visible at first because it was hiding by a tree, but a subtle light was spreading from the direction where the firefly had disappeared.
As if possessed, Cherryl chased after the firefly but then she had no choice but to express her admiration for the glorious scenery she encountered.
“Oh, my God!”
A picturesque lake spread out under the purple night sky, the full moon reflecting on its waters.
The blue waves sweeping along the calm wind stretched far to the horizon.
She never imagined that there would be a lake surrounded by vegetation somewhere in this dark coniferous forest.
However, it wasn’t just the moonlit lake that caught Cherryl’s attention.
Countless fireflies hovered at the fluttering water surface, shining their sparkling glow.
Thousands of slowly blinking lights colored Cherryl’s view, appearing like gold dusts reflected on the transparent lake
Never in her life had she seen such an amazing and ecstatic sight.
Cade took her hand.
He took off his cloak, laid it on the grass by the lake and ushered her to sit down.
She still couldn’t take her eyes off the feast of light unfolding on the water surface and in the air at the same time.
