Marvel: Breezing Through History as an Eternal

Chapter 110: Duel of the Ages, 1612 CE

[Ganryu Island]

As the wind was blowing strongly from the sea, waves roughly hit the rocks near the beach, a man was standing on the sands of the island as the waves hit his feet. The skies were dark, thunder echoed throughout the sky, and rain dropped strongly to the ground.

Another man then arrived with a small boat, rowing strongly, following the rough waves to the beach. As he landed on the beach, he jumped from the boat, towards the other man.

“You are late.” said a man, he was quite tall for the populace at this time, he had a long japanese sword, a nodachi in his hand, already unsheathed. While the scabbard was in his left hand. His clothing was soaked from the rain water, his hair wet, hiding his furious expression.

“Forgive me.” said the other man calmly, but he doesn’t look apologetic at all. As he saw the man in front of him had already drawn his sword, he also did so, he drew a… simple wooden sword.

The large man frowned as he saw it. He then threw his scabbard towards the sea, a sign for a battle to the death. He was angry at his opponent, he disrespected him, because he showed up late, and he was having none of it.

The shorter man saw what the man in front of him did, and commented. “You have no use for that sheath anyway. You are already dead, Sasaki-dono.”

Sasaki became more and more irritated as he heard his opponent's insult. He took the first step towards his opponent, and did an overhead strike using his nodachi. Miyamoto only dodged, rolling on the sand.

“Miyamoto-dono… how dare you mock me this way…” said Sasaki calmly. “You showed up late to the duel you asked… and insult me…”

“I believe I have apologised, Sasaki-dono… I had an urgent matter to take care of…”

“Do not lie Miyamoto-dono.” continued Sasaki. “Prepare yourself. For this will be a fun duel.”

Miyamoto smirked. “With pleasure, Sasaki-dono.”

Sasaki then continued. He raised his nodachi again, and did a vertical slash. The sword cut off some of Miyamoto’s hair, making the man drop a cold sweat.

Miyamoto turned around, and took a couple of steps back, playing safe.

Sasaki moved again, this time, a horizontal slash, hitting the wooden sword of Miyamoto. As Sasaki looked at the wood, it made him furious, and tried to slash it again, but Miyamoto stepped back, avoiding the slash.

“Take out your katana, Miyamoto-dono.” spoke Sasaki. “I will not be mocked this way.”

“This sword is enough for you, Sasaki-dono.” smiled Miyamoto, which made Sasaki furious.

Sasaki continued to relentlessly attack Miyamoto, and the exchange lasted for a while. They fought one another seriously, with Sasaki mostly attacking, and Miyamoto mostly dodging.

It wasn’t until in the evening that the duel was starting to end. Miyamoto and Sasaki had tire themselves out, with both of them out of breath.

Sasaki was smiling, he had never been in this kind of duel before, where the opponent was his match, they kept battling one another, until Sasaki decided to use his signature move, the swallow cut.

He raised his sword to the top of his head, and slammed the sharp blade towards Miyamoto. The strike was so powerful that it made Miyamoto’s wooden sword break, and Miyamoto must dodge the swing.

Miyamoto sidestepped, and used his broken sword to stab Sasaki’s rib, breaking it, and making Sasaki’s lung collapse.

Now, Sasaki couldn’t breathe. He had finally dropped his sword as he clenched his chest tightly, trying to stop the pain.

He knelt in front of Miyamoto, holding his chest as he coughed up blood.

“That was the best duel I have ever had, Sasaki-dono.” smiled Miyamoto as Sasaki laid on the ground, still trying to breathe.

Sasaki laughed in pain on the floor as he tried to stay alive for a little more. “Likewise, Miyamoto-dono.”

Miyamoto nodded. “Perhaps… yes… forgive me for using such cunning tactics to anger you… I regret what I did…”

“What’s done is done… Miyamoto-dono…” Sasaki coughed up blood more, blocking his throat.

“Again… forgive me…” Miyamoto then bowed respectfully towards Sasaki’s dying body, and then he left, walking towards his boat, before rowing away from the boat.

Meanwhile, Sasaki was staring at the sky above, thinking about his life. He had regrets… sure… if he had the chance, perhaps he’ll fix it… but… he doesn’t have any chance anymore.

As his lungs were filled with blood, his vision getting blurry, he closed his eyes, accepting his fate.

But then, he heard footsteps, walking towards him.

His eyes opened again, trying to see who that is. As he opened it, he saw a man, he looked foreign, had violet eyes, and looked younger than him. The man just stared at him calmly, not saying anything.

Sasaki doesn’t have the strength to speak anymore, he can’t even breathe… so… he can only watch as the man stared at him.

But then, he saw the man’s hands glowed green, and his chest also glowed green. That was the last thing he saw, before passing out, entering a deep slumber.
