11. Arrow Attack
Translator: AntoniaIn less than a quarter, Ashina Yi double-checked the position of all explosives. He had a strong desire to kill Yuxing Tianrui here, but anyway he didn’t intend to destroy the water source.
Water was scarce resource for the Turks, and this was why they frequently waged war against neighboring countries. If he overused water during the expedition, his people would have an opinion and no longer trust him.
“Your Highness, everything is ready. We can make sure the water will flow to this low altitude and no other places.” The guard reported after everything was well prepared.
Ashine Yi lifted his lips in a smile, “Alright. This place is a natural cemetery. I hope they will like it.” He briefly twisted his neck to relax and looked at the beauty next to him, expectant, “It’s a nice day. I believe we’ll have a triumph. By then, everyone will be rewarded!”
The beauty smiled seductively, her flirtatious eyes forcing all surrounding guards to bow down their heads in the fear that their prince would be irritated. They took the order in a low voice and left.
The ignition was ready. Ashina Yi, with his beauty, leisurely walked to a peak, only to find a scene letting him fly into a fury, “Useless things! I told you to watch on them!”
Down there in the valley, Du Chuxuan, full of energy after eating, had already ordered the strong-armed archer to shoot the rope with an arrow on the end into the rocks on the mountainside up high. This valley was formed naturally, so it wasn’t very steep.
In between, there was a narrow platform, enough for a person to walk sideways. Probably it was left by past dwellers in the mountains. It did a favor for Du Chuxuan and the others.
When Ashina Yi saw them, most of the besieged people had climbed up by the rope. Even to release water now at a higher speed, most of them would manage to escape.
The guards didn’t know what was going on and, hearing the words, quickly rushed over. Seeing the scene, he sweated cold sweat along his forehead, “Please don’t be angry, Your Highness. I’m ordering people to make another siege. They can’t escape.”
Afterwards, before Ashina Yi said anything, he ran away at once. Of course he did! Otherwise he would have died.
Although Du Chuxuan practiced martial arts, he was a person who seldom excised all year round. Now, having just left the ground, he didn’t want to move. Yuxing Tianrui was next to him, on another rope. The two set off together, but now, Yuxing Tianrui was already above him. Du Chuxuan had really underestimated him.
“What? You can’t do it anymore?” Yuxing Tianrui looked back and happened to see Ashina Yi standing on the other side of the valley. Then, looking down, he saw Du Chuxuan lingered at almost where he started and pissed off.
What was in this woman’s mind? How could she still be so frail at this moment?! Did she want to die?!
Just as he wanted to urge Du Chuxuan with mean words, he suddenly spotted a bunch of cold light flashing over there, “Everyone be careful. They’re going to shoot!”
Hearing this, Du Chuxuan just wished to rub Ashina Yi hard against the ground. Couldn’t he just release water? A minute ago, he had been thinking it wasn’t a bad idea to release water, because he could save much energy by swimming up.
But now, he couldn’t save any energy and had to worry about his life. He gritted his teeth and groped for his long sword, but at the moment of feeling a short dagger, he closed his eyes, surrendering to fate!
Heaven wished him death! This morning when they set off, he felt too lazy to take the long heavy sword and secretly replaced it with a short dagger in the long scabbard. Now besides crying while holding the dagger, he could do nothing but waiting for the merciless arrows from the opposite to make him into a honeycomb.
“Stupid!” Yuxing Tianrui saw him, and his cursing reached a new level. He kicked on the rocks and made his way down, quickly reaching at the same level of Du Chuxuan.
Then, he quickly threw his long sword to Du Chuxuan, while he himself held the rope and watched him with the hurry-and-do-what-you-should-do look. Du Chuxuan gritted his teeth in hatred.
“!” He was almost driven crazy by this spoiled boy. ‘What time is it now? How could he still think of letting me protect him? What on earth is in his mind?!’
There was no time to argue with Yuxing Tianrui, because the arrows were approaching. Du Chuxuan took a deep breath, his left-hand gripping hard on the rope, while his right hand spinning the sword into a huge disk to deflect the arrows.
After a while of clinking and clanking, he finally breathed a long sigh out.
He looked back to start his taunt mode, when he found Yuxing Tianrui already climbing up with both hands and feet. There were people around him, in a posture of ready to sacrifice their own lives to protect the prince. Du Chuxuan pissed off again.
As the saying goes, it’s hard to escape arrows from the dark. Ashine Yi didn’t plan to let them go. The archers, batch after batch, didn’t give him a second to breathe.
Even though Du Chuxuan had a solid cultivation foundation, he got injured during his several attempts to protect Yuxing Tianrui. Luckily, he was wearing dark clothes, and the wound wasn’t obvious.
After rounds of endeavor, they finally arrived at a platform at the mid-mountainside. The military advisor paced back and forth in anxiety, “What a black heart person! If I can go back alive, I’ll give him a miserable death.”
It was self-evident as to who he was referring to. Du Chuxuan ignored him wasting time and turned to observe the terrain. This small platform was indeed a life-savior.
Looked from outside, it could only accommodate one person to walk sideways, yet surprisingly, it was more than that. The platform slightly tilted towards the mountain and had a large space for people to rest inside.
And the oblique angle also blocked the shooting arrows outside.
“Let’s rest here for a while. There’s going to be a tough battle.” Yuxing Tianrui, cold-faced, took a glance at the people around him.
Although he didn’t take with him many people, they were elite soldiers. Now, half of them got injured, so there would be only more difficulties if they wanted to get out.
Du Chuxuan didn’t want to waste words with them, finding a relatively clean rock and sitting down at once. At the sight of him, a guard nearby immediately stood up to find somewhere else to rest.
“Hey. You. Don’t leave.” Du Chuxuan’s wound ached as he sat down, his face distorting from the pain while he yelled, “Do you have food?”
