14. Losing Contact

Three steps! Two steps! One step!

Du Chuxuan couldn’t describe his feeling when he reached out. Fortunately, Ashina Yi’s people had gone. Otherwise, they would freak out if they suddenly saw such a bloody hand reaching over.

Du Chuxuan had no idea how creepy he looked now and quickly climbed up after taking a deep breath. Luckily, Ashina Yi wasn’t very clever and had made marks at the places where explosives were set so as to avoid mistakes.

“One, two, three, four, five!” Du Chuxuan carefully counted. Five explosives in total. Were those people stupid? They were enough to bring this small place down.

Immediately he disassembled two of them and scattered the powder on the ground as a lead. Hence, the destruction of two explosives were removed. Just as he was happy about it, he spotted the heavy smoke in the valley and suddenly realized he needed to hurry up.

At once, he rubbed two lighters together and made fire. Looking at the leading lines made of gunpowder, he took a deep breath and jumped off towards the valley while throwing down the lighters.

“Damn it! Yuxing Tianrui. If I die today, you don’t expect to live a good life either.” In the moment his body falling down, Du Chuxuan finally realized that he was still a virgin in this life. He never knew the taste of a woman. What a failure of his life!

Over there, the military advisor was about to take actions when they heard a boom. Instantly, everyone was relieved. Even the military advisor had to admit that the Crown Princess’s plan was the safest one for the current situation.

He was surprised that the Crown Princess made it. Some soldiers instantly looked to the Crown Prince and found that the originally calm man was now standing there, as if constraining something, and ordering, “Later, act according to the situation. If we manage to escape, meet twenty miles away in the east.”

Taking the order, they saw the peak in the east was blown up and the lake water flowed over along the downward terrain. In a while, water filled the small valley, and the water level was still on the rise.

Hearing the explosion, Ashina Yi’s face momentarily darkened. The air pressure drained away around him. His people also came to the sudden realization and kneeled down, trembling.

“Ha. Didn’t you say victory is secured? How interesting!” Ashina Yi’s voice was furious. Heaven knew how much effort he had spent on this move.

Just bribing a general had cost him a great sum of money. If Yuxing Tianrui escaped successfully, this move was doomed to fail.

“Your Highness, we still have a way. It’s hopeful as long as we kill them all.” A person advised in terror. This was their last hope. If they killed them all, they wouldn’t have to die.

However, before he finished, a poisoned machete was already in his throat. Ashine Yi slowly took his hand back, “Useless things don’t need to exist. Do it on your own. Don’t waste my time.”

By this order, he meant he had given up on the whole plan. His subordinates understood there was no wiggle room and, despite their reluctance, took out sabers to take their own lives.

“Your Highness. How should we report to His Majesty if we go back with a failure?” Ashina Yi’s intimate guard couldn’t help frowning and reminding him. This time, they had really overlooked the situation. He wondered from whom Yuxing Tianrui received assistance that he could run away from such a perilous trap.

Ashina Yi snorted coldly, “It’s just a one-time failure. They can’t send my useless eldest brother over. Leave a few people here to kill as many as possible.” Finishing the words, he threw his sleeves and left, ignoring the beauty kneeling on the ground and shivering.

When Du Chuxuan opened his eyes, it was already noon. There was no comfortable part in his body. He murmured a curse, gritted his teeth and swam towards the bank.

It must be his fate to survive. Yesterday, he jumped off from that high cliff and unexpectedly landed on a protruding branch. Just because of this branch, Du Chuxuan, in a coma, didn’t sink into the river and floated on the surface for the whole night.

Paying no attention to the surroundings, Du Chuxuan climbed out of the lake and threw himself on the ground, limbs stretching outwards. He felt lucky, “Damn. I’m so lucky. Yuxing Tianrui is such a white-eyed ungrateful wolf. I’ve risked my life to save him, but he didn’t send anyone to get me.”

Yuxing Tiarnui didn’t forget Du Chuxuan. The crowd met, as he had ordered, in a forest twenty miles away in the east. Only at this point did he realize that when Du Chuxuan left, they hadn’t appointed a place to meet afterwards.

Even though he was annoyed at this fact, his responsibility as the Crown Prince forbade him from abandoning the whole army because of a woman. He assigned a team of ten to head back and search for Du Chuxuan.

He himself led the rest to go back to the barracks. They didn’t see any troops coming in search of them after they lost contact for a whole day. This already contained much information.

They were afraid that the Dragon (Longwei) General had allied with Ashina Yi to assassinate him. Probably they had reached certain consensus and targeted at the whole Shenglan.

At this moment, the most urgent thing he should do was going back at once to take over all the military power and stabilize the army. As for that Dragon General, very likely he was sending rumor to the capital that the Crown Princess had died at war. When the rumor reached, the capital was bound to be in a mess for a while.

However, these had nothing to do with Du Chuxuan. He never remembered the way around him. Even in a place as small as the downtown area of the capital city, he spent many years to get at the ways.

Now it would be a miracle for him to go back to where he came with his memory.

Fortunately, he wasn’t anxious at all, collecting dry branches, taking out his last lighter wrapped in oil paper, and building a fire, ready to dry his clothes.

After all, in the mind of young lord Du, nothing was more important than comfort.
