53. His Highness Is Back

Ashina Yi was a little shocked seeing in the distant Shan Zhongli’s movement. Shooting three arrows at the same time required some skills. There was an endgame of chess at his fingertip. His interest suddenly piqued, he picked three chess pieces and fiddled between fingers.

Shan Zhongli set his jaw. Three-arrow shooting was his limit. All he wanted was to frustrate Ashina Yi. Now, he totally forgot his responsibilities as a commander of an army.

Yuxing Tianrui saw this scene when he arrived with Ada. He didn’t show it on face but smiled helplessly to himself. Where did Shan Zhongli get this confidence to try spar with Ashina Yi?

Ada went to take a look and cautiously reported to Yuxing Tianrui, “Your Highness, it seems the solution of the son of Duke Ningyuan isn’t quite right.”

Although the two armies were in a stalemate now and the Turks’ formation was about to be torn apart by them, a cleverer man could tell at a glance that this situation wouldn’t last long.

Yuxing Tianrui only glanced at the battlefield twice and agreed with Ada. He pondered, carefully unrolled the scroll on which Du Chuxuan had drawn down his solution. Comparing it against the actual situation, Yuxing Tianrui soon understood what was the problem with Shan Zhongli’s solution.

But right now to break through the predicament, what he needed was a group of soldiers completely trusting him.

Ada, sharp-eyed, spotted that though General Leng was also on the battlefield, he cleverly led his people wandering on the edge of the battlefield.

This wasn’t a rare case in battles. Sometimes it was because the general and the commander stood at odds, and sometimes it was because the general would rather protect himself. Although being marginalized wouldn’t achieve much merit, the casualty rate was much lower too.

Ada wouldn’t have been so happy if it was someone else, but this General Leng had expressed support to Yuxing Tianrui. Hence, his behavior now was self-evident.

Yuxing Tianrui’s eyes gleamed. This was just right. He pondered for a while and nodded, “Go and get in touch. Be quick. And don’t let Shan Zhongli find out.”

Shan Zhongli was now in a deadlock against Ashina Yi, which happened to provide an opportunity for Yuxing Tianrui who, at present, had both a good timing and people he needed. He would rather die if this chance was missed out.

Shan Zhongli could never expect that the person under his scheme was now putting him under another scheme, unsparingly. In fact, he was never a tough one in Yuxing Tianrui’s eyes.

Yuxing Tianrui had just worried that troubles might be stirred up again within the imperial clan, yet he had never taken seriously of a nameless son of a duke.

If Shan Zhongli behaved himself and performed his due responsibilities after arriving here, Yuxing Tianrui didn’t mind take more care of the Mansion of Duke Ningyuan. However, given the current situation, it was hard to tell. The consequence depended on to what extent this person would worsen his blunder.

Ada was quick because change in dispatching forces was a common thing on the battlefield, most of the time to react more flexibly, and sometimes to cater to a sudden change in the combat plan.

He approached the herald soldier noiselessly. At the sight of the dark collar, he inwardly admired His Highness for this amazing prediction and beforehand arrangement of this chess piece.

Obviously, the herald knew Ada. Though he didn’t salute, his manner was respectful. When no one noticed them, Ada showed him Yuxing Tianrui’s token, upon seeing which meant meeting Yuxing Tianrui in person.

Immediately, the herald realized it must be something vital.

“Summon back General Leng and let him…” As for what General Leng should do specifically, Ada certainly told the herald in whispers, giving no chance for any other people to hear it.

On hearing the order, the soldier’s eyes were lit up, because this solution was even well-designed than what Shan Zhongli had put forward. Besides, this solution would completely shatter the enemy’s formation and leave it with no possibility to regain the momentum!

At the sight of the admiration in the soldier’s eyes, Ada couldn’t help arching his lips. He had really underestimated Her Highness. What a wonderful cryptic person she was!

Shan Zhongli shoot three arrows at the same time in three different directions. But on the next second, they were deflected to scatter on the ground by Ashina Yi’s seemingly light swing of a fan.

Shan Zhongli looked at Ashina Yi with irritation but could do nothing even if he could tell from the provoking eyes that it was Ashina Yi who had done that.

He squeezed his fists tight, suddenly shifting his eyes to the battlefield. Alright. Even if he couldn’t break the important joint, this Turkic second prince would soon be defeated as the plan went on. It didn’t matter to let him be smug for a while.

However, this single glance astonished him. General Leng led a team of cavalries and broke into the battlefield in the west. The team wasn’t in a great number, around two hundred people, but what they used as weapons weren’t spears or swords, but sickles!

Yes, the kind of sickle used by farmers to harvest crops. Speaking of that, they were quite lucky because the barracks were far from villagers, so in order to cook or reap grass for horses, every tent was equipped with at least one sickle. Otherwise, General Leng and his team wouldn’t have been well-prepared upon such a short notice.

Yuxing Tianrui stood on the top of the terrace, eyes following along General Leng and the cavalry team that tore out a gap in the formation which instantly turned into a broken machine that stopped running.

“Lord, obviously General Leng isn’t following your instruction. Should we arrest him later?” A general next to Shan Zhongli obviously noticed it. He was a little anxious because even a fool could tell that General Leng was saving the losing tendency.

However, he hated to see another person gaining such an honorable merit or to wait quietly until General Leng came back with triumph. His intention was explicit.

Just as Shan Zhongli was about to say something, the crowd behind them suddenly exclaimed with cheer.

“LOOK! It’s His Highness! His Highness is back!”

The whispers were instantly heard by everyone. Nearly every solider turned to take a look on hearing the words. At once, they clearly recognized that the person in red standing on the commanding terrace was His Highness! In an instant, Shenglan Army was in high spirits again!
