Mastering Lightning from Hogwarts
#127 - Each with their own thoughts
“If you ask me, can't you guys come up with other arguments? You keep saying you represent the House, you'll make others think Slytherin is full of good-for-nothing trash. "Reading"” Anduin walked up to Wilkes, patted him on the shoulder, and said in a sincere tone.
Wilkes shuddered from Anduin's pat, goosebumps rising all over his body. Although he wanted to get away from Anduin as soon as possible, he held back. Just as he was organizing his words, thinking about how to refute him, Travers next to him spoke.
“Anduin, get your filthy hands off him! As pure-blood supremacist aristocrats, the rules of Slytherin are set by us. What? Do you want to challenge our authority?”
Travers felt disgusted just looking at Anduin's frivolous expression and roared at him angrily, his voice even reaching the end of the corridor.
With Travers's support, Wilkes also perked up a lot, shaking off Anduin's hand on his shoulder and said with a straight face, "You can't run wild here. Think about the consequences of breaking the rules. Now, stand aside and accept the inspection."
“Oh, rules? I like that word, but unreasonable regulations and rules set by the weak, I don't think there's any need to abide by them. You want to inspect me? Come and try. If you're strong enough, I don't mind following the rules.” Anduin's expression gradually turned cold, his eyes fixed on the two.
Wilkes felt his hair stand on end, knowing in his heart that if they forced the issue, there would be no good outcome. Originally, he wanted to overwhelm Anduin with their status, but instead, he had put himself in an embarrassing position.
Just as the two were in a dilemma, a very familiar voice came from behind them.
“Step back, Wilkes, let me meet this Slytherin phantom.” Yaxley's voice came like a savior, and Wilkes readily retreated behind him.
“Oh, so you're changing people to lecture me? Or have you finally decided to solve this with violence?” Anduin said with a slight smile, looking at the suddenly appearing Yaxley.
Yaxley also gave a cold smile upon hearing Anduin's words. “Don't worry, we won't resort to violence in the House, but I must remind you, as a member of Slytherin, it's best to be well-behaved.”
“Well said, but it seems like some people aren't very well-behaved.” Anduin retorted coldly.
“Think carefully. I hope you won't regret your choice today. People must always learn to be responsible for themselves.” Yaxley spoke vaguely, saying incomprehensible things.
“I'll give these words back to you. Maybe before long, you won't even have time to regret it.” Anduin also spoke in riddles. The two stared at each other intently, as if competing with their eyes.
Seeing Anduin's tough stance, Yaxley knew that he couldn't put pressure on him today. They couldn't really resort to violence in the dorm. If they couldn't scare him, they would have to find another opportunity.
“I hope your mouth will still be as tough as it is today in the future.” Yaxley sneered. “Let's go, Wilkes. Since we're not welcome here, let's not be an eyesore.”
“But…” Travers was agitated and wanted to object when he heard that Yaxley was planning to let it go, but he was interrupted by Yaxley's gaze, and he had no choice but to give up reluctantly.
“Goodbye.” Anduin said lightly, then watched the few people leave his dorm unwillingly.
Closing the door, Anduin stroked his chin, pondering. These guys seemed to be cornered and were trying to hijack the entire Slytherin House in order to maintain their authority.
On the other side, Yaxley led the others back to his dorm, calmly looking at the crowd. Travers stared at him anxiously, obviously very dissatisfied with this anticlimactic action.
“Are we just going to let him go like this, Yaxley? He completely doesn't take us seriously.” Travers felt resentful whenever he thought of the expression Anduin gave him just now.
“Don't worry. What's the point of starting a conflict with him? At most, we'll beat him up, and then we'll be confined. Today, I had you check his dorm mainly to see how elastic he is. Since he's showing such a tough stance, we can't let him go so easily.” Yaxley sneered.
“What do you mean?” Wilkes asked with a frown.
“Don't worry about that Anduin for now. You guys are responsible for managing the other young wizards, especially the Muggle-born wizards. As for Anduin, I don't believe he can keep hiding in Hogwarts forever. There will always be a time to catch him.”
Yaxley calmly arranged the work. Although the two couldn't wait to teach Anduin a lesson right now, they had to force themselves to calm down after hearing what Yaxley said.
In the following days, the so-called Pure-Blood Committee didn't bother Anduin anymore, but they cracked down hard on the other young wizards, searching students' dorms under the guise of official authority and confiscating many Muggle items. The other young wizards didn't have Anduin's courage and had to swallow their anger.
Vivian, on the other hand, was furious. Almost all of her mahjong tiles were confiscated, making her mahjong club almost non-existent. The members of her club also had many opinions on this, but they only dared to be angry but not speak out against Yaxley and the others.
Many Slytherin students were like this, only caring about self-preservation. As long as they were fine, they didn't care about the life and death of others. Yaxley and the others also used this mentality to win over a group of people and suppress another. Those Muggle-born wizards were ordered around by them every day, but they still didn't dare to say anything even when they were bullied.
In Anduin's view, the mentality of these young wizards was a bit like the Jews during World War II: shrewd and capable but timid and submissive. They didn't even think about resisting, only hoping that they wouldn't be bullied.
Moreover, Anduin noticed that the pure-blood faction's surveillance and tracking of him had started again, but it was much more secretive and mostly concentrated on weekends.
Are they hoping to attack me when I'm off-campus? I can see such obvious intentions, can't I?
Third-year students have a perk, which is that they can go to Hogsmeade on weekends. That is the only all-wizarding village in the British wizarding world, but young wizards must have their guardian's signature to go.
Anduin didn't leave Hogwarts for the entire summer, and as an orphan, he didn't have a guardian himself. Considering his situation, Professor McGonagall very considerately agreed to have Hagrid act as Anduin's temporary guardian to sign for him.
