Mastering Lightning from Hogwarts
#275 - Three categories of subjects (seeking monthly votes and recommendation tickets)
"Have you memorized all the names of these little wizards?" Anduin couldn't help but ask, seeing Hogg's quick progress.
"Rest assured, sir. I haven't needed you to point them out since noon yesterday. Don't you think my records from yesterday afternoon were quite accurate?" Hogg said confidently, appearing to be very comfortable with this task.
Compared to only being able to focus on one person at a time in Diagon Alley, Hogg was clearly more interested in monitoring, which allowed him to focus on over a hundred people at once.
Anduin was happy to have the help, as it freed up his time to create the teaching aids he had been envisioning.
As a student who achieved excellent grades in all subjects, Anduin actually had a considerable understanding of the standards of exams at Hogwarts, or rather, the wizarding world's examination system.
Of the seven main subjects and five electives at Hogwarts, Anduin categorized them based on reading, writing, memory, or practical spellcasting, dividing them into three main types: theoretical knowledge subjects, theoretical-practical subjects, and spellcasting-practical subjects.
Those subjects that mainly relied on memory, understanding, and observation, where good grades could be achieved by spending time studying and memorizing, or by having sufficient test-taking skills, such as cramming, were classified by Anduin as 'theoretical knowledge subjects'.
These courses mainly included History of Magic, Arithmancy, Muggle Studies, and Divination. Of course, this classification was based on the exam requirements within Hogwarts, and it wasn't that these subjects didn't require any spellcasting at all. If you were to study them in depth, many of these courses would also require strong spellcasting practical skills, such as Arithmancy and Divination.
But like Divination, the course at Hogwarts was quite absurd. Professor Trelawney had basically never truly taught anyone Divination, and the exam for this course was mainly a written test.
For the little wizards in Slytherin, after Anduin arranged self-study time, these 'theoretical knowledge subjects' that mainly relied on reading, writing, and memory were no longer a major problem.
Of course, for these subjects, his ultimate goal was to cope with exams and achieve good grades.
These types of courses were relatively simple for someone like Anduin, who was familiar with test-taking skills. His strategy was basically to highlight key points, use a sea of questions, and predict exam questions.
He instructed several class representatives to collect the exam content of previous years for each subject, whether relying on their own memories or contacting graduated alumni. They had to record the frequently tested content of each professor.
Then, at the House Committee meetings, he would arrange for the class representatives to highlight the frequently tested areas for each grade from 1st to 5th year and use the original questions from previous years directly as the test questions for the upcoming monthly exams. This way, both the highlighted key points and the monthly exam questions were taken care of.
As for predicting exam questions, he mainly divided it into two parts. One aspect was to have the class representatives of each subject predict questions based on their experience before the exam, and the other was to collect the questions that the professors revealed during class.
In fact, after entering Hogwarts, Anduin was quite speechless at the school's exams, because most of the professors had very serious behavior of leaking questions. As long as you wrote them down and repeatedly memorized them, it was easy to get a good grade.
But even so, there were still a bunch of little wizards who failed or barely passed.
But now it was different. Anduin was preparing to manage the exam preparation uniformly. Although it was only the beginning of the semester, many teachers didn't leak questions before the end of the term, but when they just started learning a certain spell or knowledge point.
So, Anduin arranged for the grade leaders to organize a test question collection team to summarize the test questions for each subject in each grade, so that they could launch a surprise attack at the end of the term.
The 'theoretical-practical subjects' in the subject classification referred to subjects that had a lot of theoretical content but required more practice, and at the same time, spellcasting was not very frequent. Many theoretical knowledge also needed a lot of memory and understanding to pass the exam. The exams for these subjects generally depended on the professor's preferences, and both practical and written tests were possible.
The 'theoretical-practical subjects' classified by Anduin included Herbology, Astronomy, Ancient Runes, and Care of Magical Creatures.
In courses like Astronomy and Ancient Runes, only a small part required spellcasting. Astronomy mainly relied on identifying constellations, but there were often practical exams at the end of the term.
If you didn't study Ancient Runes in depth, then you only needed to master some translation content. However, Ancient Runes were magical texts, so there would also be spellcasting practice in teaching and high-grade exams.
The learning of these two courses was basically similar to 'theoretical knowledge subjects', mainly relying on studying and a little practice.
Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures required more practical content. To tutor these two subjects, you could only rely on rich experience to explain out of thin air. After all, many herbs and magical creatures could not be brought into the common room.
The magical creatures needed for Care of Magical Creatures actually had many entities in the Forbidden Forest cabin, and Anduin was very familiar with Hagrid and Professor Kettleburn, but he didn't want to bother them.
And in order to solve this problem, he planned to use one of the two newly developed teaching aids to assist.
This was actually the large curtain that Anduin used at the beginning of the semester. That curtain was actually woven from the silk of 'Inspiration Snow Cicadas' and ordinary silk.
The 'Inspiration Snow Cicadas' were materials that Karkaroff had specially collected from Northern Europe. Their characteristic was that they had a good affinity for thinking and memory. He had specially asked Karkaroff to collect a lot of books and materials related to thinking and memory in order to find a way to treat the Longbottoms.
This kind of silk could sense changes in thinking, so Anduin made it into this big curtain, which would present the things that people thought in their hearts, whether it was words or pictures.
He planned to lend it to those students who were tutoring these two courses, and let the class representatives materialize the forms of herbs or magical creatures in their memories on the curtain to assist the little wizards in semi-practical learning.
The last so-called 'spellcasting-practical subjects' referred to those subjects that required frequent spellcasting practice, and the exams were mainly practical exams. Of course, there was also a lot of theoretical content, but their written test scores generally accounted for a small proportion.
These included Transfiguration, Charms, Potions, and Defense Against the Dark Arts. These courses required spellcasting both in class and during exams, so they required sufficient practice and understanding of sufficient spellcasting principles, otherwise it would be difficult to improve.
