At the time, due to her natural curiosity about new things, Aselia didn't feel any repulsion or doubt about learning to duel, and she greatly respected her teacher.
Only later did Aselia learn that her teacher was a 'lance' in the Silver Lance Duel Club.
"So, your 'teacher' approached you directly back then?" Anduin asked, sensing something amiss in her story.
"Yes, my teacher saw that I had an excellent natural magical sensitivity and couldn't resist guiding me as a young person," Aselia said, still feeling grateful to her teacher.
"What was her name?" Anduin asked curiously.
"Her name is part of a confidentiality agreement; I can't say it in front of outsiders, but her code name in the Silver Lance is 'Shrew'," Aselia said, shaking her head.
Anduin nodded thoughtfully, then signaled Aselia to continue.
"After studying with my teacher for about half a year, she suddenly revealed the existence of the 'Silver Lance' and offered to be my referrer, inviting me to join the club," Aselia said with a sigh.
"And then you joined?" Anduin felt that things weren't that simple.
"No, I refused," Aselia shook her head. "I was only curious about dueling, and when my teacher introduced the club, she revealed that it had other goals besides dueling. I wasn't interested in such complications, so I refused, but I promised to keep my teacher's secret."
"Oh? What made you change your mind in the end?" Anduin pressed.
"That… was because of my sister, Anais." Aselia's expression turned somber.
"After I refused my teacher's invitation, she slowly faded out of my life, but not long after that, something happened to my sister. She had just turned ten, but she somehow contracted 'Dragon Pox'.
"The local magical hospital treated Anais, but her condition didn't improve at all. We were completely helpless at the time. She was my only sister; you can't imagine how desperate I was," Aselia said, shedding a tear.
"And then your teacher 'coincidentally' appeared?" Anduin asked tentatively.
"You could say that, but not entirely. My teacher had told me that if I encountered any trouble, I could ask her for help. I tried to find her without any leads, and to my surprise, she actually had a solution!" Aselia's emotions gradually stabilized.
"She can treat Dragon Pox? Gonhilda of Gorsemoor invented a treatment for Dragon Pox, but it's not foolproof. If even the free hospital was helpless, she could cure it?" Anduin was skeptical.
"But facts speak louder than words," Aselia said with a helpless shake of her head. "My teacher's potion did improve Anais's condition, and the rashes gradually subsided."
"However, my teacher later told me that while she could stop Dragon Pox from worsening, she couldn't completely eliminate it. Anais had to take potions regularly, which she would exchange for with merits from the club."
"But the club's merits are very precious, and she couldn't keep helping me like that, so she invited me to join the Silver Lance again, to earn merits myself to exchange for the potions."
"So you agreed?" Anduin raised an eyebrow, thinking he knew what was going on.
"Yes, the Silver Lance's foundation is indeed astonishing; it could even find a way to stop the worsening of Dragon Pox, but unfortunately, Anais had to take potions regularly, or the disease would relapse. After joining the Silver Lance, I used most of my merits on Anais," Aselia sighed again.
"Heh, did your teacher also 'thoughtfully' tell you to focus on working for the Silver Lance and that she would take good care of your sister? Could it be that your sister is still in her hands now?" Anduin sneered, finishing her sentence for her.
"How… how did you know?" Aselia looked up at Anduin in surprise.
Of course, she wasn't stupid. She then realized what Anduin meant, and her expression changed drastically. "You mean… this was all a trap set up by my teacher? That's impossible!"
"Oh? Why do you think it's impossible?" Anduin grinned mockingly.
"You have to know that my sister did contract Dragon Pox. My teacher couldn't decide who would contract the disease, so your assumption isn't realistic at all," Aselia argued.
"Is that so? Then let me show you this…" Anduin said with a smile, taking out the Metal Magic Book and turning to the page on 'Dragon Pox Curse', placing it in front of Aselia.
"This, this is… a curse?" Aselia murmured, dumbfounded, as she looked at the magical description Anduin showed her.
"Yes, this curse can make someone inexplicably contract Dragon Pox and is basically impossible to cure with normal treatments. That's probably why the magical hospital's treatments were ineffective for your sister."
"But speaking of which, casting this Dragon Pox curse isn't cheap, oh no, it doesn't seem to be a problem for the Silver Lance, because your club certainly has no shortage of Peruvian Vipertooth saliva and tooth powder needed to cast the curse," Anduin said, putting away the magic book and adding with a smile.
"But… why would they go to such lengths to target me? I'm just an ordinary witch," Aselia still couldn't accept the truth.
"A young witch whose dueling skills meet the club's selection standards, and because they have a hold on you, your loyalty is unquestionable, you're also pretty, and most importantly, you have a complete British background. Returning to the British wizarding world wouldn't raise any suspicion. I'm guessing your teacher contacted you when the Dark Lord had just fallen," Anduin guided Aselia step by step.
"You mean, back then, the Silver Lance was already planning to expand its branch in Britain? And I was a spy they had chosen long ago? So the purpose of my teacher contacting me from the start was to have me return to Britain and be an informant for the Silver Lance?" Aselia suddenly understood, and her logic immediately made sense.
