Meridian's Devil

Chapter 8 - ALIVE AFTER ALL

The lingering shadow in the depths of dimly lighted corners of the room continued his scrutiny over the injured girl, who had been lying motionless on the bed for quite some time now.

Meanwhile, Yue foolishly endeavored to sit up, in order to have a broader vision,

"AH!" an imprudent decision as it was, she winced as an excruciating pain, spreads all through her body. The man leaning against the wall in the shade chuckled at her attempting to sit up, 'Cute. But she shouldn't do that, she is absolutely in no condition to carry out such an immense and arduous task.' He walked out of the shadows at last, where he so far took a stance, observing and espying on her.

Her body was burning, it was as if, she had been set alight on fire, but at the same time the cold climate rendered her shivering.

She hissed in agony as she lay down to her initial posture, instead of stupidly striving again to sit up. She tilts her head sideways instead to scrutinize her surroundings.

Wooden planks, probably Mahagony or Plywood, she couldn't point out, had been installed on all surrounding walls, they were indistinguishable from the roof.

She shifts her gaze towards her feet, there was a fire place, the fire lashes emitting from it, soothingly called Yue towards it, the warmth it radiated made her want to sit right beside it.

"So, you are alive, after all." Yue flinches as a hoarse voice emerges, which honestly was sudden, undoubtedly. She moved her head rapidly in order to locate the owner of the heard voice, and in the process she only ended up re-igniting the just ebbed pain.

Her commotion of swiftly turning her head from the left to the right and shifting her gaze in an attempt to locate him, made him pity her, given the ordeal of a state she was in.

"Ugh…" she winces yet again as she holds back her tears of torment. 'It hurts so bad,' Yue reminisced the severe pain she felt when her body fell into the water body, considering the height she took a fall from, it was already a miracle that she was still breathing.

"Easy there," A figure emerges from one of the lowly-lit corners of the room, 'Has he been here this entire time?' Yue didn't even sense his presence, that was odd, given her sharp senses of detection but maybe being in this condition had dulled her senses, for the time being.

A beautiful ebony haired boy advances towards Yue, leisurely. His hands stuffed in his trousers. And though Yue was not standing beside him, she could say with assurance, that he was much taller than she was, which somewhat made him intimidating.

Obsidian—black, shiny, impenetrable, fathomless gunmetal eyes peered into her soul. Fluffy yet luscious in texture, black hair with silver-locks cascades over his fair-complexion forehead, swaying lightly as he walks ahead. His face is a V-shape, the one deemed as highly attractive and is coveted by many, defined jaw, smaller jaw muscles, slim cheekbones and a sharper chin. Yue was unaware of her consistent stare at the advancing man. She couldn't help but admit at least once to herself that he was nothing like the guys she had seen before. He was so much within the close proximity of her ideal type.

Yue shifts towards the corner of the bed, as he stops and stands right beside her. And she instantly regretted doing so, as a sharp pain ran all over her body again, and she bit her lower lip to prevent herself from screaming in stinging pain

"If you don't want to end hurting yourself any further, stop wriggling." He scoffed, as he narrowed his eyes, looking down upon the fragile creature. Lying helplessly and deeply wounded right before him.

Yue nodded in understanding, she was not sure if he was simply being arrogant or were his words out of plain concern for her.

Her eyes glance for a moment again at the fireplace. She was after all resisting herelf from shivering in the intensity of the cold she felt. Her hair was still moist and partially wet, which is only reasonable after being almost drowned in a pond. The drenched end of her hair worsened her battle against the cold.

And when she looked back at him, retrieving her gaze from the fireplace, he was peering at the firepit now instead.

It's only plausible that she must be experiencing the cold, the temperatures were low at this time of the year. 'Though the cold has never seemed to take a toll on me, she is human, she would suffer if she remains the way she is presently.' He though to himself as he glared at the hot lashes of fire burning behind the wrought metal fences of the firepit.

"Right.." he mumbled lowly, probably speaking to himself in affirmation of something in his mind. Her gaze at him was now inquisitive, his eyes then met hers again.

She gulped as he lowered down to crouch beside her such that now they were level-headed, literally as he almost sat down beside the bed.
