Million World Game
Chapter 37
His eyes widened a bit before, he hastily gave a bow.
"I was out of line," he spoke I could hear remorse in his voice. It barely quelled the rage that was boiling in my stomach. But I held my tongue. There was no point, in crying or throwing a fit right now.
There were far too many things that I needed to learn and he had the information that I was looking for.
"We all make mistakes," I replied walking past him with Ceryneian in tow. Its body emitted a warm refreshing feeling as I walked beside it. Its body had reverted to a small form so it was easier to walk with, it was about the size of a regular deer.
"Explain to me why I should avoid these certain organizations."
"You already have a grudge with the Holy Knights of the Goddess, I'm sure that the man you're looking to kill to repay the skill that was given to you by the Hag, knows of her death. He might not know your name or what you look like, but he'll be on guard," Haru say walking beside me a bit further apart now though.
My jaw ached slightly where he'd had it in his crushing grip. I wouldn't be surprised if there were bruises already forming on my face.
"Was there any need to be so forceful with my face when explaining this?" I glower at him, as we exit the shop area and head into an open stretch of land that had a few rides. There was a gigantic bumper cart arena that spanned for as far as my eyes could see.
"Sometimes, I'm not always in control of my emotions. But I also have plenty of... reason to do something to make you remember." He says with a conflicted look, I quieted down for a moment as we walked.
I needed to sort my thoughts about the whole thing. We walked in silence for a bit, we easily cleared the area that held the bummer carts. Yet to run into anyone, but I could hear the sounds of fighting as we continued onwards.
The landscape changed with no rhyme or reason.
"Why should I stay away from the other two organizations that you mentioned? You've only explained why I should avoid one." I finally asked him after about thirty minutes of silence.
"The Sunfire Alliance is also connected to the Holy Knight of the Goddess, and then the Free Union of Players is a front to recruit people and then they sell them to the other bigger alliances to be used as that alliance pleases. They are you modern day slave traders," a tinge of malice in his words.
"Slave Traders, huh?" I rub my head, this was all so complicated.
"How do you know all of this?" I felt a bit wary of him.
"I do belong to one of the organizations... The Shadow Mercenaries," he reached a hand down his shirt and pulled up the neckless," the two-headed god, is the symbol of the Shadow Mercenaries," I looked at the neckless again. I committed it to memory.
"Are the Shadow Mercenaries not on good terms with the three other organizations that you mentioned?"
He nodded his head. "We're allied with Sovergin Clan of the End. There is a war raging underneath and within the MWG. It's been boiling for the past ten years, each alliance is trying to win the game."
"You can with the game?"
"Every game has a goal, and each alliance is racing to figure out to the goal of the game and to beat the game and claim the prize at the end of it all," he replied as we made our way up a huge set of stairs.
"I thought this was just a hell that you had to survive, I haven't even thought about trying to win it," I muttered.
"You should start trying to think about winning, in this game there will be a victor and there will be a loser. There is no doubt in anyone's mind that understand this game," he scoffed.
Our feet made a slight clicking noise as we climb the staircase, it was oddly silent other than the clicking sound.
"Then tell me what the goal of the game is?"
"That information would just get you killed quicker than you could blink, you need to be stronger, much stronger before you can know the true goal of this game," he shook his head and picked up the pace.
Glaring at him, I follow suit and speed up my climbing. At the increased speed, I could see the top of the staircase and a burning light.
We advanced quickly and without stop, soon we arrived at the top of the huge staircase. What lies in front of me made my breathing turn ragged.
In front of me was a great big city, that was fortified by a huge wall. That had to be at least a hundred feet tall, the outline of the city was designed in a huge circle. The inner part of the city was bustling and full of noise and lights.
We stood on a mountain peak basically and we're able to peer down at the beautiful surroundings and the city itself.
"This is the town that you mentioned?" I ask him in disbelief this wasn't just a town, this was a huge city.
"This is a town, a city would be found on a major world. It would be tens of times bigger than this place." He replied airily.
"Are you sure your just a level ten," I got the feeling he might have been lying to me.
He looked at me with a wolfish smile. "I could have asked the same thing, Ms. Level Seven," he gave me a coy smile.
I felt blush crawl up my face, looks like my lying had come out. Seems this simple man wasn't as simple as he had once seemed.
