Chapter 33: Chapter 033 – Signing The Contract to Become a User

“There’s no rush to leave. Let me make my pulls first!”

After experiencing two previous World Missions, Luo Su was quite experienced. For example, the ability to stay for 24 hours was not a fixed time frame. One could leave at any time in this period.

Five minutes, ten minutes, an hour…

It was all good.

Luo Su regarded this 24 hours as a social benefit to being able to travel between worlds. Twenty-four hours was neither too long nor too short. Depending on the world, one could decide how long they stayed. If one encountered an interesting world, it would be worth staying to mess around.

And in messing around, the most important part was playing the lottery!

In the previous two Mission Worlds, Luo Su hadn’t stayed long after completing the mission, choosing to almost immediately leave. The reason had been very simple. The subway police officer who had been part of the Delta Force and the Temple Guard, who ate people, bones and all, had been right there. Luo Su had felt a great pressure in their company.

From the lottery pulls awarded by completing the World Mission of the ‘Subway Surfer’ World, Luo Su had obtained ‘Character Card: Bolt’, ‘Skill Card: English Proficiency,’ and ‘Skill Card: Fire Spitting.’ From the ‘Temple Run’ World, he had obtained ‘Skill Card: Long-Distance Runner,’ ‘Item Card: Liniment,’ and ‘Item Card: Blood-Absorbent Bandages.’

He had pulled all these cards after leaving the Mission Worlds!

After going through the third world and pulling more and more rewards, he had gained enough experience to boldly make a few conjectures about how the lottery prizes were determined.

First, encountering a person or object would allow one to pull a related card. It could be a Character Card, Skill Card, or Item Card.

Of course, there might also be other card types that he just hadn’t obtained yet.

Second, if he didn’t immediately pull and instead waited to pull until after he left the Mission World, the pulls would no longer be linked to a certain person or object. But there was a chance that the prizes would be linked to the Mission World.

For example, ‘Skill Card: Fire Spitting’ was probably related to jet planes, while the Liniment and Blood-Absorbent Bandages were linked to the danger of fleeing the Temple Guard. As for how true this was, further observation was necessary.

This method of pulling was more random, and there was no telling what he would get. It might be super good or super bad. For super good, one could consider his two permanent skills, English Proficiency and Long-Distance Runner. As for super bad…the Blood-Absorbent Bandages.

Luo Su still didn’t know how to correctly use these things. It wasn’t like he could find an enemy and wrap one of the bandages around their wounds. That was just too stupid!

The above constituted the most realistic theories Luo Su had developed about the lottery phase, and currently, both theories seemed extremely close to the truth.

Before pulling his rewards, Luo Su distributed his three free trait points. If he had been playing an MMO, he would have emphasized certain stats. A mage that poured stats into strength and HP, a warrior that poured stats into intelligence and spirit, an assassin that focused on physical and magic resistance…the guides all recommended this sort of thing, as it could often catch the enemy off guard.

As for the similarly confused and laughable teammates, they could be ignored! They didn’t know how to play!

But games were different from reality. Luo Su chose to evenly distribute his points and maintain a balance.

Moderation might have been a mistake, but it would never be a big mistake!

[Strength: 11 (7+4)]

[Constitution: 9 (6+3)]

[Wisdom: 11 (9+2)]

[Level: 3]

[Experience: 150/1000]

[Wealth: 700]

There was no heart-rending scream. The process of adding points was quite calm, not even causing an itch. His body just felt a little different and needed some time to adjust. Luo Su didn’t find the experience bad, and in fact, the warmth was rather comfortable.

Though his level was 3, Luo Su didn’t feel any joy from leveling up. He didn’t know who had made this trash system, but except when he finished the World Mission, he never received any experience points or Wealth.

There were no side quests, no rewards for killing enemies, no ways of encouraging the user at all. This would lead the user into becoming a good-for-nothing who lacked initiative.

Luo Su had been through three worlds, but he was only level 3. Reaching level 4 took more experience than the first three levels put together, and he would need even more experience for the levels after that.

Normally, a new player would level up quickly, and the experience from 1 to 10 should have been liking riding a rocket. But this system was moving as slow as a snail.

It didn’t make sense!

Luo Su suppressed his curiosity and began to pull his rewards. The third World Mission was done, and so once he left this world, he could become a true user and ask the system all his questions.

Working off his theories, Luo Su decided to use the pulls offered by Sloan and the Loom of Fate and use the pulls given by the Butcher and the Repairman for after he left.

The reason was simple. There was a high chance that these two wouldn’t provide anything useful. Pulling in the world would be a waste.

Luo Su didn’t know much about the Repairman, only that he was skilled at beating people up. The same could be said for the Butcher. It was better to leave things up to luck then pull something like ‘Butcher Knife Art.’

The lottery phase was very laid back. There was no giant spinning wheel, sudoku square, or tarot cards. The moment Luo Su confirmed that he was pulling, a card would leap onto the screen. That was all! There weren’t even any cheap special effects!

[Character Card: Sloan (You know, back in my day, I was also very strong)]

[Item Card: The Goddess of Fate’s Ring (A sacred object that can increase the wearer’s luck, but if you have a Luck Level of E, don’t even try it. There’s no saving you. Just wait for your death)

Just as in the post, the pulls were related to the person or object that had triggered them. To his delight, one of them was a Character Card. The only flaw to these cards was that their time limits were rather short. If only they were permanent…

“Luo Su, what’s your situation? Did you kill Sloan?” Cross’s voice came from the earpiece.

Luo Su tossed the earpiece on the ground. Sloan said that Cross would snipe him down the moment he left the Textile Mill. This was purely an attempt to sow dissension, but there was no knowing what was in a man’s heart. Luo Su didn’t think he had the charisma to subdue Cross. It would be quite normal for the man to kill him to protect his son’s secret.

He had 24 hours, but Luo Su didn’t plan to stay. He mentally called out, “System, end the world process and take me away from here.”

Without any notice, the system completed Luo Su’s order. His vision went dark, and when he opened his eyes, he was back in his apartment.

There were now 99+ notifications in the assassination chat group, but his monitor hadn’t gone to sleep yet. This meant that the time in the Mission World was not at all in line with the flow of time in the main world.

Luo Su recalled that he had set the sleep time for his screen to 10 minutes.

“Not even 10 minutes…” As he spoke, Luo Su sensed something hard poking into his waist. He raised an eyebrow and then silently laughed.

At this moment, Luo Su’s vision went dark again. After completing the third World Mission, his testing period was over, and he was about to become a true user.

He was now in a massive hall that was ringed with torches. He could see large stone pillars in their light, but past them, all he could see was darkness.

The desk and computer chair had been switched out for a cold stone table and stone chair. The prodding sensation at his back vanished, and Luo Su stopped thinking about it, turning his focus to the long stone table.

It was similar to a conference table or a western dining table. It was long and narrow, and various patterns had been carved onto the surface, together with symbols and characters that he didn’t understand. There were no chairs on either side of the table, and right across from the table, a screen was faintly rippling and trembling.

A human face slowly emerged, but its features were very blurry. He could only make out the vague shapes of eyes, a nose, and a mouth. It was essentially impossible to determine what the other party was thinking through their facial features.

“Fortunate one, you have completed three World Missions, obtaining the right to sign a contract with me and become a true user!”

The blurry face’s mouth began to open and close. What came out was not a cold mechanical voice, but a rather timeworn voice whose tone was constantly shifting.

“Sure!”
