Ain't gonna happen! I screamed in my mind.
Wait . . . maybe I could cheat the system for the rewards? If I tell Soarsie about the system later, then perhaps we could actually cheat it together! Like I could spank her butt with her consent and pretend to break up with her but reunite together after I get the rewards?
In that way, I could get tons of EXP without doing anything against my will and conscience!
That could work!
<Looks like Host is getting acquainted with cheating. That's the path and only right path to dominate this world! Go and cheat your way to the top!>
I ignored it and waited for the others to get their [Letter] quest from the village chief.
Except for the old man who scammed for gil, the others also asked around the inhabitants if they had quests available while I kept my distance from them with both ears open.
It turned out that there weren't any available quests in the village except for that [Letter].
That was good news for me since I was afraid to talk with the inhabitants here with my current ATP.
Eventually, we inquired about the room in the Inn, and it turned out that it was just 500 gill.
Did it get times two when I was the one who inquired?
<Yes.>
Great.
But anyway it was still expensive but not unreachable. From now on, I'll let Soarsie inquire for me.
Yep. That was the only way to save money. Though regrettable about the quest outside of the system since I had to be the one who should triggered it.
I was actually so glad that we've met this early on. I was saved from the system's disadvantages!
<The system only has advantages. Host doesn't need to be tied on a single woman. In your path of world domination, it is a hindrance to be restricted by a single person.>
Shut up and don't disturb my happy time.
"It turns out. It's just 500 gil." Soarsie breathed easy. "You must have heard wrong."
"Yeah." I lied. "I was panicking and didn't know what to do."
"Couldn't blame you. We suddenly found ourselves in this game-like world without warning, and now, instead of customers, we're going to fight monsters."
Despite our situation, Soarsie managed a laugh. It was reassuring to see her smile again. At least, it made me feel that everything would be alright as long as we were together.
<Host is naïve! Truly Naïve!>
<But that is alright. Host needs to learn from his mistakes in order to grow and embrace the system. Only through evilness that you'll grow strong and undefeated!>
It was hard to ignore it, knowing it was talking to my brain.
After the confirmation with the Inn, our group made way towards the plain and acquired [Rabbit Meat] to roast. It was more practical than buying food in the Inn. It cost less, and Soarsie could use fire.
Though her level in cooking was low since some of the [Rabbit Meat] was burnt. It was still edible, so I had no complaints. It was better than an empty stomach.
"By the way. Are you a swordsman like me?" Luke asked as we took a rest and ate our food.
I almost nodded, if not that I remembered that my skills were focused on mimicking others. I think it would be safer if I said I was a mage since I didn't know how to wield a sword or fight using a blade.
"I'm a mage." They were the back liners, and I think I preferred it that way.
"Same as Soarsie then?" Jane confirmed. "I'm a healer, and Luke is a swordsman."
They might be generic classes, but I couldn't help but be jealous. I wish I had a generic class, too, than have something like an Evil apprentice.
Jane grinned at Luke. "It looks like you'll have to be the vanguard."
Luke shrugged. "Fine with me. I took up sword lessons when I was in high school."
Hmm . . . What's up with handsome men taking up sword lessons now?
I only knew how to brawl in high school before I decided to quit to support my sisters' schooling.
"It's reassuring to know that you'll be handy in the fight." Jane chortled.
I observed the two. I deducted that Jane likes Luke. It was apparent from her glowing eyes and high tone of voice, and I bet that Luke realized that too if someone as dense as me saw it.
His mannerisms spoke of a well-off man who knew a bunch of things and looked like everything was in his control. Was he a manager of some sort or a boss of his own business?
Anyway, his upbringing was very different from Soarsie and mine, and it showed. Even if no one voted for it nor talked about it, he became the group leader — the one with the confidence, brains, talent, and charisma to lead everyone out of danger.
<Things like talent, upbringing, and education are useless here. Host will become– >
Shut up.
"What should we do about the goblins? Should we fight it one by one or as a group?" I asked.
"It's safe if we fight it together and help everyone acquire their x5 goblin kills. In that way, we could keep each other safe while covering each other's blind spots."
Even the quest was different! Mine was x10 goblins!
This makes me want to cry.
"Should we grind first and level our ATP? Just in case these goblins are dangerous?"
Luke nodded at Soarsie's suggestion. "That's a good idea too. Let's test the monsters near their cave first and see if we can lure one and defeat it."
With that in plan, I was starting to get worried as we neared the forest after our quick meal. I didn't know what to expect and what lies I had to tell everyone when my MP was gone after I cast a single skill.
And that was not even the problem. The problem was the 10% low success rate of copying another skill.
Maybe I should just use my fists and legs? My ATP was high, so I didn't need to depend on my skills that much.
I should have brought a knife or any kind of weapon to defend myself. But I was broke at the moment because of that 2oz glass of water.
It was such a good day to be me.
"You okay?" Soarsie asked when she noticed the sweat dripping on my face.
I wiped it off and faked a laugh. "Yeah. Just nervous and all."
Soarsie breathed in and out and held her wand closer. "Me too." She then asked, "Where's your wand?"
I rubbed the back of my neck and looked to the other side. "I sold it for extra gill. It was a wrong move now that I think about it."
Soarsie's face crumpled in dismay. "You idiot. Why did you do that? Now your INT must be low, and your magic wouldn't have much damage, unlike when you have a weapon in hand."
I could only sigh. "I'm sorry. I should have known better."
Soarsie flashed a small smile. "Never mind. At least you can still cast your magic without a wand. A weapon is just for that extra damage anyway."
I didn't reply. My heart was bleeding.
Maybe I should just tell her while the others weren't looking. Jane was keeping Luke occupied with her giggles and questions.
"Soarsie," I started.
She looked at me with her round blue eyes, and I almost had a nosebleed at her cuteness.
