44. Paper Man

that moment, a gust of wind slammed the door, and Zhou Nan was frightened by

this sound.

Chen

Ming had worked as a ghost catcher for so many years and had never seen a ghost

who was so timid. He was not sure whether this could turn Zhou Nan into a fierce

ghost and comforted the latter just in case, “Alas, calm down, little

buddy.”

“Chen

Ming, tell me the truth. You’re still alive, right?” Zhou Nan stepped back and asked a pointless question.

Chen

Ming paused for a moment, and slowly said, “I’ll admit it now.”

Nan held the pillow more tightly and nervously bit his lower lip.

Ming sighed and looked at the ceiling gloomily. “To be honest, I was

dead that night…” He couldn’t continue and covered his mouth while he was smiling.

“Continue your acting.” Zhou Nan knew Chen Ming was

teasing him. Throwing the pillow in Chen Ming’s face, he asked, ” What was

on the white cloth?” He guessed the contents were not serious, but he was

curious.

“Prosperous,

democratic, culturally advanced, and harmonious.” Chen Ming finished

these words rapidly and threw the poor pillow back to the bed.

Zhou

Nan was going crazy; he completely forgot that he was listening to Chen

Ming’s ghost experience, and was gradually distracted. He said sincerely,

“You should do cross-talk; you will make more money than selling flowers.”

“No

way. I’m afraid I’ll take others’ positions, and they’ll lose jobs.” Chen

Ming bragged so naturally. He opened the lid, and the noodles were steaming, ” Oh, it’s ready.” Then the room was full of smacking sounds.

When

Chen Ming finished most of the noodles, he finally no longer acted like a

starving ghost and asked Zhou Nan, “Do you remember that taxi

driver?”

Zhou

Nan immediately remembered the ordinary-looking man with a strange abscess

on the back of his neck. He nodded, “I remember, I remember!”

“Do

me a favor. Find the driver. The abscess on his neck is a cursed insect.”

The cursed insect’s blood could be quite helpful. It would save

both the driver and Chen Ming’s lives.

Zhou

Nan didn’t understand him and forgot that they needed to use cursed insect

blood for revival. He thought Chen Ming just wanted to save the driver and was anxious,

“Then stop eating! You’ve wasted much time,  what if the driver’s dead?”

“No

hurry!” Chen Ming didn’t even raise his head, “It’s easier to

get things done in the dark.”

Zhou

Nan knew he wouldn’t convince Chen Ming, so he could only pray it

would not be too late: “I… I’ll go find him right now!”

“Hey,

come back! You’re empty-handed. You could do nothing even if you see the driver.” Zhou

Nan was almost out when Chen Ming stopped him. Turning back, Chen Ming began

searching for something in the nightstand.

Zhou

Nan stopped, came back and asked curiously, “What do you want me

to bring?”

Seconds

later, Chen Ming threw a small piece of paper at him. It was a little

paper man with symbols on the body, and on its head was red ‘QAQ’. The

funny expression showed somebody was obviously mischievous. Looking up, sure enough, Chen

Ming was sucking his finger. With the other hand, he was holding a needle

that he just used to prick his finger.

Zhou Nan

observed the little paper man, “This is…”

“This

is your puppet.” Chen Ming snapped his fingers, and the little

paper man sat up suddenly.

Zhou

Nan was unguarded and frightened, shaking the little paper man off like it

was a bug. Sitting on the ground, the little paper man covered its head. On its face was the striking ‘QAQ’ as if it was full of untold grievance.

“You

take it with you and tell it when finding the driver. Then I’ll come over.” Chen

Ming was demure and unflustered. Sitting back, he slowly drank the salty

noodle soup.
