My Goalkeeping System
Chapter 151 Burning Up
'I know my dad, he's probably going to accept the offer with the excuse that it was for the team's betterment of the team.' Dave said subconsciously as he drove home in his car.
<You can't be sure of that>
'Why not? The only reason why he's never loaned me out is that nobody wanted me and now that a club like Benfica wants me, he's finally gotten his chance.'
<If you think that's true, why don't you call him and confirm things for yourself?>
After that suggestion, Dave turned his gaze to his phone and stared at it for a while before turning his gaze away.
"No, I don't think I can." He said.
<Why not?>
"Because I'm angry and whenever I'm angry I do things I end up regretting."
<Okay, that's a valid point>
The goalkeeper kept on driving without saying anything to her but she wasn't done talking to him.
<Weren't you going to call Emma before Norman called you?>
'Yeah, I was.' He said subconsciously before turning his gaze to his phone.
He was about to reach for it when it began to vibrate and the caller happened to be the exact person he was thinking about when he reached for the phone.
"Hey, babe." He said after picking up the call and placing the phone against his ear.
"Hey, I just got back from work and discovered that you're not here, where are you?" She asked.
'She just got back from work?'
"Don't worry, I'm on my way back now." The goalkeeper said.
"Okay, but where did you go?" She asked.
"At Mateo's."
"Oh."
"I'll be home soon, bye." He said before ending the call.
It didn't take long for him to get home and on entering the house, he was welcomed with a warm hug from Emma who was very happy to see him.
"So you went to see Mateo." She raised her head to look at him with her arms still wrapped around him.
"Yeah, he was bored so I went to keep him company and then he ended up destroying me in a game of FIFA." He said.
"I see, did you see my mother?"
"She wasn't there when I arrived but she returned before I left," Dave said.
"Okay, you had a pretty fun day while mine was spent in the office doing boring paperwork." She said,
"It's the career you chose so it shouldn't be boring to you."
"I love the part about going to matches, interviewing players, and even random people leaving the stadium but sitting in one place doing paperwork all day isn't my thing, I just hope Miss. Nelly gives me something fun to do tomorrow."
While she was talking, Dave slowly placed his hand on her forehead.
"Your temperature's a little high." He said.
"What's that supposed to mean?" She asked, raising her eyebrows.
"I didn't mean it in that way, I'm serious, it looks like you're starting to catch a fever." He said.
"A fever?" She said before touching her neck. "Yeah, my temperature seems to be higher than usual but I feel okay."
"You should take some medications just in case," Dave suggested.
"Don't worry, babe, I'm okay." She said before making her way to the kitchen. "You should go change and maybe get a little rest, dinner will be ready soon."
"You've been working all day, you're the one that's supposed to be getting some rest," Dave said.
"Don't worry I still have enough energy left for cooking." She said before tying her head back so that it wouldn't get in the way.
Dave didn't try to say anything else because he knew that whatever he said she would just counter it with her own words.
"Alright then, I'll be upstairs." He said before making his way upstairs.

Just like she said, it didn't take her long to finish making her dinner. Dave was downstairs by the time she finished so the two had dinner together and did a few other things before finally going to bed.
Dave had decided to turn off his dream control feature tonight and give his mind a good rest too. He wanted to rest his mind but he had been lying on the bed for thirty minutes without being able to get any sleep while Emma had slept a long time ago.
'What the heck is wrong with me, I'm supposed to sleep off immediately after such a long day?' The goalkeeper said subconsciously. 'Why am I not feeling sleepy?'
<You certainly don't have anything in mind that seems to be bothering you at the moment so it's quite strange>
'Does this have anything to do with turning off the dream control feature?'
<Is this the first time you've turned off the feature?>
'No.'
<Did something like this happen the first time you turned off the feature?>
'No.'
<There you go, you just answered it for yourself>
The goalkeeper lay there staring at the ceiling waiting for the sweet wind of sleep to hit him anytime soon but so far nothing was happening and he was beginning to get frustrated.
'If I can't fall asleep, I'll just go downstairs and do something tiring until I start feeling sleepy. I may end up sleeping on the couch but that's okay.'
He got up from the bed and made his way to the door but just as he was about to leave through the door, his ears picked up something unusual causing him to stop on his.
Emma's breaths always followed a certain soft and soothing pattern but right now it sounded like her nose was breached by something causing her breathing to break or seize at some points.
He slowly reached for the switch and turned on the lights to see that it was indeed coming from her.
"What's going on?" He muttered before he slowly made his way to her.
The weather wasn't even hot but her face was covered in sweat and her facial expression looked like she was struggling with something in her dream.
All these things coupled with her breathing which was constantly seizing wasn't a good sight for him.
<She doesn't look well>
Dave didn't say anything as he climbed on the bed and got close enough to touch her.
'She wasn't feeling well, that's why she told me to leave her alone.' He said subconsciously before he slowly placed his hand on her forehead.
A horrid look appeared on his face as soon as he felt the amount of heat radiating from her body.
"This isn't good." He muttered.
<What?>
"She's burning up, like seriously up."
<That's not good>
As soon as those words left his mouth, her breathing got faster but the seizures were still there.
