My Goalkeeping System

Chapter 172 Pre-Season Quest

The management had to make arrangements for where the players were going to stay during their two weeks tour and that had already been taken care of as they had reserved rooms in one of the biggest hotels in the city.

The players had to share rooms with one of their teammates to reduce the number of rooms to cut off having to pay for extra rooms which would cost the club more.

Dave wouldn't share a room with anyone else but Mateo, the winger, and the goalkeeper were going to be sharing a room for the next two weeks.

The place was well arranged and clean, so all they had to do was drop their bags where they were supposed to go and relax.

There were two beds in the room for both of them and the room seemed pretty conducive for them, to cut the long talk short, they liked the room, Mateo's only problem was that there was no play station in the room.

"Don't you know that putting a play station here would make the room more expensive?" Dave said.

"Yeah, you're right." The winger said before crashing down on his bed. "But they should have a play station somewhere around here."

"Yeah, maybe."

There was a little moment of silence in the room as Dave slowly lay down on his bed with his gaze on the ceiling and a smile on his face.

"What are you smiling like that for?" Mateo asked. "Are you still thinking about your honeymoon?"

"No, it's not it," Dave said, shaking his head.

"Then what is it?"

"I'm just glad that we'll be in European competition this season even though it's the lowest one, I'm also glad that I've got another season to prove myself at the club and you've fully recovered and didn't have to leave."

"Well, Atletico Madrid didn't make a good enough offer so the board had to turn them down, I would have gone if they had said yes but I'm happy to still be here nevertheless." The winger said. "You know we have new faces in the squad now."

"Who? And what positions are they playing?" The goalkeeper asked.

"Well, we have Martinez Alejandro, the thirty-one-year-old defensive midfielder from Argentina, he moved from Chelsea to here on a one-year deal.

"Then we have Gregory Stone, a seventeen-year-old striker who just got promoted to the senior squad and finally we have Henry Shaw, the twenty-five-year-old attacking midfielder who is here on loan from West Ham United.

"George Neville has left the club for Leicester City."

"Oh, is he the only one?" Dave asked.

"No, Roger David was also sold off to Celtic FC, Anderson left on loan again this time to Porto, and Ina Shaw was also loaned out to Frono FC."

"I see, three new faces, two players left on permanent transfers, and two players on loan transfers."

"Yeah," Mateo said.

The two talked about a lot of things together before Mateo had to leave to go look for a play station leaving the goalkeeper all alone in the room.

His stats had not improved that much for the past one month now, the only improvement he had gotten was from completing a quest involving the hyper ball blaster and after that, he had been swallowed up by the wedding, honeymoon, and enjoying himself.

<Today marks the end of your slacking off>

'You know there's a difference between slacking off and taking a break right?'

<Breaks should last for one week at least, you've been out for a month plus>

'And you couldn't understand that I was on my honeymoon.' He replied. 'Why am I even explaining myself to you?'

He slowly got up from his bed and made his way to his door.

"If I stay here all by myself, I'm going to die of boredom." He muttered before opening the door.

The first day at the hotel was really fun for all the players but today was a new day and it was time to get serious although they were just going to be playing a bunch of friendly matches.

"Arghhh!" Mateo groaned as he sat up on his bed with his hand on his head.

"You spent the whole day playing FIFA, getting a headache was inevitable."

The winger slowly turned his gaze to Dave's bed to see him lying on the bed going through his phone.

"At least it wasn't as serious as it was before I went to bed." He said before getting up from the bed.

"You should get rid of the rest of it fast, we have a match by 1:00 PM right?"

"Yeah," Mateo said.

Since the match was by 1:00 PM, Norman made sure he had a quick training session with the players by 8:00 AM and that was what they were doing now.

The training started with the laps, stretches, and the other ones that required strategy and after doing those things for one hour, Norman decided that they should take a quick break before doing thirty more minutes of training but Dave and Mateo weren't leaving yet.

"You've got really fast." The winger said before lobbing the ball toward his goalpost from the edge of the box.

The ball was sent flying toward the top left side of the goalpost and it didn't take much of an effort to get there and catch the ball.

"I've been working hard recently." He said before throwing the ball back to him.

"I can see that," Mateo said after trapping the ball under his foot.

"So, how many matches are we going to be playing in this pre-season tour?" He asked.

"Nine," Mateo replied.

"Yeah, we have Manchester United today, we'll be playing Benfica next and then Eibar, Young Boys, Sheffield United, Barcelona, Dynamo FC, Wolfsburg, and Real Sociedad.

"Wow, we'll be playing against a lot of elite teams," Dave said.

"The only elite teams I recognize there are Barcelona, Manchester United, and maybe Benfica." The winger said.

"Yeah, I guess so."

"Heads up," Mateo said before he quickly sent the ball flying toward the right side of the goalpost and this time it wasn't a lob, it was an actual shot.

Dave quickly dived toward the ball at the right time and with the tip of his gloves, he tipped it over the bar.

"Nice save," Mateo said with a little clap.

"Yeah." He said before sitting up on the floor.

'A quest, finally, and it's got mystery rewards too.'

<Yeah, but do you think this quest is going to be easy with Barcelona being part of the team you're going to be playing against?>

'That explains the mystery rewards, if there's no improvement in our defense, those guys may end up putting the nine goals past me in one match.'
