My Little Secret

Chapter 2:The Art of Disguise.

The constant beeping of the notification alert managed to wake me up before I could embarrass myself on my second day at work. My manager stepped in a few seconds later.

'That was a quick save', I thought to myself.

I stared at the laptop screen wondering why I felt so bored on the second day of work. Wasn't this supposed to be my dream job? Assisting the editor, I always adored. Two years of struggle and I'd be able to apply anywhere else as long as I worked under him.

I managed to wake myself up and felt the sudden urgency to write something, an idea popped up and I had to make sure to make a note of it before it slipped my mind. I look around wondering where I left my sticky notes. I always kept a stock of them incase ideas like these popped up, cute stationery always acted like a catalyst to my imagination. I manage to find them in the bottom drawer and as I look up,

"Victor!" I shriek, not too loudly.

It would seem creepy to anyone else but since I had been crushing on him, I was delighted. I quickly gather my thoughts and look at him.

'What was he doing here?' I think to myself.

"Are you ready?" he asks me. 'Ready for what?'

"Oh yeah, of course" I smile as I gather my notes while avoiding his gaze.

I do not want to be questioned further. I follow him to the meeting room while trying to remember what I had signed up for. He enters the meeting room and opens his laptop. I sit down in front of him. The room is empty except for the two of us. The room has glass doors so I can see the rest of the office. It was pretty much full. I catch Hilda's eye and look at her, confused. She gives me a smirk. She knew what was going on.

Victor opens the PowerPoint slides he showed in his presentation a few days ago. I remembered every word he said, so much so, I could give a better presentation than him.

"I didn't think you'd actually ask me so quickly", he says as he seemed to be enjoying this. Ask him what?

I was beginning to get annoyed. Maybe he could see that in my face.

"You don't remember, do you?" he said, looking rather disappointed.

'REMEMBER WHAT?' The voice in my head was shouting, I was about to explode when it suddenly hit me. Everything came rushing to my mind. The memories of last night.

A rather drunk me, celebrating the victory of getting into the company of my dreams.

"His eyelashes were gorgeous and as my eyes ran through his beautiful body, I noticed his tattoo and oh" I gasped "magnificent!" I say in an accent, almost French.

I laugh hysterically, unable to speak further.

"But we can never talk though, he'd never want to know who I am. He's too good to be true" I say as I bury my face in my hands.

"Oh no, that's not true dude" says Luke. He was the gutsy one in our group.

"You could easily talk to him now" he smiles.

Luke was devilishly handsome and too cool for school and he was just about to make me do the devil's bidding.
