My Little Secret

Chapter 29:Danger Has a Scent

Victor and I decided to meet at the place we usually had desserts at. My favourite character from my favourite tv series once said that it's always better to break up in a dessert place, so that the breakup is less awkward because you'd only have to get through the dessert. I walk to the place because it was close and I wanted to get some thinking done.

I gather my thoughts and prepare myself to face Victor. I was going to be headstrong, he always thought I was meek and I'd give in to his ways. It was going to be different today, I think to myself as I reach the café. I find a familiar face inside, getting cupcakes.

"Ivan! What are you doing here?" I exclaim. I was so relieved to see him. He was buying cupcakes.

"Red velvet, they're my favourite!" I say sounding like a kid.

"What? Really? Mine too!" he says and smiles.

"I'm here to break up with Victor." I say seriously.

"Oh, wow, are you ready for that?" he asks.

"I guess."

"Be careful, and call me if you need anything." He says and smiles.

"Sure" I say. Ivan walks away. He bumps into Victor on the way. Victor glares at him with anger. Even though Victor was heavily built and towered over Ivan, he was not even half the man Ivan was. He had the diary in his hand, he looks at me and gestures to come over. We find a seat near the glass window.

"Sof, how's your hand?" he says and proceeds to touch it. I move it away.

"It's fine." I say and look at him. "My diary." I ask, placing my hand in front of his.

He gives it to me and takes a heavy breath.

"Sof, I'm sorry. I was a jerk. But don't do this. I really care about you."

"I'm leaving, Victor. We are strictly professional from now on." I say as I get up.

"Sof. Don't be dramatic, please." He says.

"Dramatic? Victor. It's done. You and I. Don't text me, don't call me, stay away from me." I warn him and proceed to walk away.

He sits there for a few seconds then follows me.

"Let me drop you back atleast, please Sof." He offers as he runs behind me.

"No, Victor. I'd like to go on my own."

"Sofia, stop this! Why are you so secretive huh? And what's with you and that guy? You're such a bitch. You flirt with other guys despite being with me." He says loudly. People around us look at us as they pass. I felt embarrassed. Not because it was true, whatever he was saying, but because he was being so loud and drawing attention to us. I hated that the most.

"Victor Gibson. Leave me alone." I shout.

"You want to leave? Fine." He says and curls his fingers and hits me on my back. The blow was very powerful, it pushed me forward towards the road. Ivan manages to shield me before I fell on the road. I was going to be sucked into his memories when he breaks contact as soon as he saves me.

My eyes were filled with tears. I couldn't believe what had just happened. I had just experienced physical abuse from a guy I had liked. Was my choice so bad? Adam would be so disappointed. I was too shocked to feel any pain. Tears race down my cheek and fall on Ivan's hand.

"Sof, I'm here. Are you okay?" he asks and I nod gesturing no.

He pushes the hair behind my ear, being extremely careful.

He rushes towards Victor and punches his face. Victor fell on his back, on his bike. He was bleeding from his mouth. He glares at Ivan and shifts his gaze to me, gets on his bike and rides away.

"Let's get you home." Ivan says and places a shawl around me that he got from his car. I follow him and get into the car. Ivan asked everyone to stop staring like it was a movie and got into the car.

Even in pain, I appreciated that.
