My Little Secret

Chapter 38:The Return

"What was that all about?" Hilda exclaimed as I came out of the meeting room all red.

"I am going to get fired, Hilda" I say and bury my face in her hands.

"Good job, Sofia. Way to go." Aaron comes to my cubicle and says so softly, it was almost like he whispering. He was gritting his teeth in anger.

"I don't know what you told him, but he's suggested a lot of changes and said nothing negative about your work, which is suspicious because you were supposed to talk about your work." He continues.

I look at my down and shift my feet uncomfortably. This was so embarrassing. Meghan was smirking across the room. Things couldn't get any worse. She was having an intense conversation with Victor, who hadn't spoken to me since that day. I was relieved about that.

The rest of the day passed by quickly. I did not get to see much of Aaron or Bryan. I wasn't as important as Aaron was, so I left a little earlier than usual today, since nobody would notice my absense anyway. Seeing this as an opportunity, Hilda came along with me.

"So, you and Ivan huh?" she teases me.

"Haha. There's nothing going on between us. At least, not from his side."

"So, what about you?" she asks.

"Honestly, I don't know. He's a nice guy, but I don't know much about him."

"True." She agrees.

"I gotta rush, I have to read a book at Absolem today for a bunch of people." I say looking excited and rush to my scooter.

(Ivan Radcliffe)

Sofia managed to surprise me yet again. Looking at her reading the book out loud, it seemed like I was a part of the book. It felt like I lived in it. Her voice made everything so much better, she sure did know how to narrate.

She was reciting one of her favourite books apparently, "Pride and Prejudice". It was funny how my mind kept track of all her favourites. Sometimes, I let myself slip into her world. Her world wasn't as complicated as mine. Getting away from all the paparazzi and rumours about Catherine and me, it was getting nearly impossible. Absolem was different, people hardly knew who I was at that place. and it had Sofia, who was so refreshing.

Sofia was reading the story with such passion; she didn't even notice me come inside Absolem. My phone beeped and everyone looks in my direction. I look at Sofia who stops reading and looks at me surprised and then her expression changed to confusion, then anger. She was so expressive. I look at my phone, Bryan.

I excuse myself and go to attend it.

"Hey big brother!" I say faking enthusiasm.

"I've made reservations for us, the usual place and time. Be there on time, Ivan. You know how I hate to be kept waited." I hear the phone click. The usual place and time? Which meant I had to leave in twenty minutes precisely.

I return back to listen to Sofia recite. While walking I put an alarm, just in case I forgot. Bryan would kill me if I were late.

"Ivan." I hear Sofia call out my name as I walk to the entrance door. She looked pissed.

"Hey Sof"

"You didn't tell me that your dad was my boss." she says and folds her hands, annoyed.

"I.. I didn't think it was necessary, I mean, I didn't want to brag Sof. It was nice to be treated normally

for a change. Not like the son of someone famous or someone famous."

"Yeah, but it would be nice to have some family introduction of sorts, I embarrassed myself in front of your brother, Bryan, today." She said and looks a little sad.

"Bryan? He was at the office?"

"That's not the point, Ivan. I expected honesty."

"I'm sorry Sof. I didn't want your feelings to be biased, because of my family. I like being with you, you treat me like a normal person, it's very refreshing. The arcade, the time we spent there, I didn't have a day like that in years. I mean almost ten to fisteen years. I'm really sorry, but being with you, I can be myself. Not someone who has to be conscious about what he's eating or doing. I intend on continuing this. It makes me happy, Sof. You make me happy." I say and come closer to her.

She smiles. "Really? I make you happy?" she asks, her eyes glistening. She had the prettiest eyes. They were hazel. They spoke volumes. If you looked carefully, you could tell what she felt.

Sofia, had a lot of expressions on her face but her eyes always reflected what was truly in her heart.

"Yes." I say and smile back, "you were pretty good there, I heard most of it." I say and she smiles.

Beep, beep, beep. My alarm goes on and I snooze it.

She smiles understandingly and waves back.

I turn around and walk towards my car, why did you come back now Bryan Radcliffe?

I needed answers.
