Chapter 87: The Golden Tree and the Corpse Beetles

They have a black demon cross around their necks, I think they are some sorts of evil saints.” He Nai answered with excitement, it was a rather weird habit that when she was excited, she would pat on the table, but now she could only pat on the head of Zhang Chi. The tomb seemed to be rather huge plus the former places they passed by.  However, if this tomb was that magnificent, so how couldn’t they find anything valuable but various monster instead?

Those grave robbers now only felt that they had been hoaxed, what the hell was Ma Chao Tomb? It could be called a pile of monster. But although they thought so, seeing this golden banyan tree, they thought they might get bunch of benefits from it.

“Go down.” said the master of the Ma family. After he uttered, Ma Tianxing and Ma Tiankong climbed down from the branches. But as they moved not so far, the branch jerked, and suddenly tied up Ma Tianxing and Ma Tiankong on the wall. And all of a sudden,  a mass of black beetles climbed up on those branches and rushed over to the two, each of which was in the size of a human fist.

“It’s Corpse Beetles!” Shouted the crowd, it seemed that every graverobber could recognize the beetles with unkind intention. They were equipped with sharp teeth and could bite to pull off a piece of a human flesh. Ma Tianxing and Ma Tiankong were hung by the branches and soon would be submerged by the Corpse Beetles, if they couldn’t get rid of the branches quickly, they probably would be two skeletons there.

“Cut the branches! Cut the branches!” Someone in the crowd shouted loudly and tried to cut the branches with a dagger, but was interrupted by the member from the Ma family. “Stop it! Ma Tianxing and Ma Tiankong are still down there!”

“They got no chance now. The corpse beetles are already here. If we don’t cut the branches, we’ll all die too!” Hearing the word “DIE”, the crowd started to be unease, no one would be selfless to save others rather than save himself. So, most of them were considering the idea.

As the crowd was hesitating, Wu JiuGe suddenly grabbed the branches and moved down, he used his Snake Sword to cut a wound on his arm, with his blood draining. It seemed that it worked to scare the corpse beetles by the act, and then Wu JiuGe quickly cut the branches tied to Ma Tianxing and Ma Tiankong. The two climbed back to the top by the rope thrown down from the crowd.

The corpse beetles tried to aviod Wu Jiuge but moved faster up. The beetles were smart that they found there existed a group of flesh up on the edge of the valley, they wouldn’t let go of the chance.

As the beetles approached, someone in the crowd suddenly threw a torch down, and the branches quickly burned, some of the beetles couldn’t even avoid in time and burned till their death. However, Wu Jiuge was still down there, the fire could be a danger for him. His Snake Sword was inserted into the wall and hard to pull out, and now it was more difficult to deal with the falling dead beetles and the branches-ready-to-break.

Zhao Yun put down Xia Mingyu and handed him to Sun Yaxin and Sun Yaheng, asked them to take care of the boy, and then he jumped down to save the Wu Jiuge. Ba Wei and Teng Xiao also followed Zhao yun to go down. They could use better their power down there thanks to the dense branches and fire to separate the sight of the crowd.

“Corpse Beetles, Parasitic Rattan, Golden Banyan Tree.. and Crystal Coffins down there. This doesn’t look like the main tomb. Even if it is, it is definitely not where Ma Chao lies.
