Natural God's Gift
#1 - Native Flame Spider
A rustling sound arose as countless, densely packed small flame spiders crawled about within the egg sac.
One of the small flame spiders stealthily opened its eyes and looked around, discovering that it was surrounded by its brethren, all possessing mud-yellow carapaces. On their carapaces were small tufts of red hair. Upon awakening, they began to crawl haphazardly within the sac, attempting to break through it, and some had already succeeded, venturing out of the egg sac.
It also propped itself up and slowly crawled to the bottom of the sac. The sac was woven by the flame spider mother after laying her eggs, to protect the spiderlings inside. The flame spider silk used to weave the sac was impervious to water and fire, and extremely tough, generally making it difficult to destroy.
However, this was not a difficult task for the small flame spider. It simply spat out a mouthful of acidic liquid, slowly dissolving the sac. After a small hole appeared, it eagerly squeezed out.
Coming outside, it was the height of summer. Lush ancient trees were everywhere, and the sounds of birds chirping and insects buzzing filled the air. Their egg sac was on a shrub about a meter tall. Some of its brethren were already ravenously hungry, impatiently hanging from strands of silk, climbing down the shrub in search of food.
It did not frantically search for food like its brethren, but first looked around. It noticed that the stems and leaves of a nearby Schisandra plant were densely covered with aphids. Its eight eyes lit up; innate wisdom told it that these aphids were an extremely delicious food.
It estimated the distance between the shrub it was on and the nearby Schisandra, finding that they were not far apart. The closest leaves were only one or two centimeters away. It first ran to the nearest leaf, then pulled a strand of silk from its abdomen and attached it to the leaf of the shrub it was on, pulling the silk taut and leaping with all its might…
It failed. Even though the two leaves were only one or two centimeters apart, for a small flame spider less than a millimeter in size, this was still a difficult distance to cross. Fortunately, it had anchored its silk to the leaf, so one failure was not a big deal.
It climbed back onto the leaf and tried again to cross the chasm between the two.
It leaped again, and failed again. It was simply too small, but it was not discouraged. It believed that as long as it persevered, it would eventually succeed.
"What are you doing?" A fellow small flame spider, also looking around on the shrub leaf, tapped the leaf rhythmically with its spider legs to convey information.
"There's food over there," it raised a spider leg, pointing to the aphids on the opposite side.
"Wow, so many bugs!" The fellow flame spider was somewhat surprised that they hadn't noticed so much food on the other side.
"There's food here," the tapping of spider legs quickly attracted other small flame spiders from the surrounding area.
"Food, where's the food?"
"Over there, so many bugs."
"But the other side is so far away!"
"The bugs are so big too, bigger than us. Can we eat them?"
The other small flame spiders followed suit, pulling silk and leaping towards the other side, but none of them succeeded.
It, however, remained still. It carefully considered the situation with its eight spider legs, and quickly came up with another idea.
Silk was pulled from its abdomen, but this time it was not attached to anything, simply allowing the silk to float in the wind.
As the silk grew longer and longer, it soon stuck to a leaf on the opposite side. It slowly crawled along the silk to the other side.
"That's a good idea," the other small flame spiders' eight eyes lit up. They also learned its method, pulling out strands of silk and letting them float in all directions. One by one, the small flame spiders climbed along the countless spider webs to the neighboring Schisandra.
"These aphids are so big, how do we eat them?" After climbing to the other side, the small flame spiders were somewhat troubled by the aphids that were larger than their own bodies.
The leading small flame spider tapped the leaf lightly with its spider leg: "Bite their bellies and inject venom, then slowly suck them dry."
"Good idea." The small flame spiders surrounded the aphids in groups of three or five, biting open their bellies, injecting venom, and ignoring their struggles as they focused on sucking out the bug juice.
They were small, and soon they were full. There were still many aphids on the tree, so they decided not to leave for the time being.
"You guys wait here, I'll go notify the other spiders." Several of the spiders that had eaten their fill didn't forget the other spiders that had left, and stumbled down the tree, wanting to notify the others that there was food here.
The spider that had taken the lead earlier also hung from a strand of silk and descended the tree, wanting to notify the other spiders to come over.
"Oh, what's this?" It hung from the silk and landed right on a clover. At this moment, it discovered that the flower of this clover was emitting waves that intoxicated the spider.
It only took a light breath, and it felt like it was drunk.
"Is it the fragrance of the flower?" It didn't understand, but it found that this clover was different from other clovers. Other clovers only had three leaves, but this clover had four leaves, each leaf shaped like a heart, and there was only one flower on it, making it look very beautiful.
At this moment, it forgot about its brethren and the aphids on the tree. All it saw was this flower emitting strange waves. It quietly stayed by this clover, until the sun set and its brethren conveyed a message calling it to eat before it came back to its senses.
"Time to eat." It attached silk to the clover, pulling up a small spider web to protect it, preventing other bugs from damaging the beautiful flower with its special fragrance.
It climbed to the tree, bit an aphid, injected venom, and then slowly sucked the juice. At this time, it found that its appetite was slightly better than in the morning, but it didn't think much about it, just happily swallowed all the juice.
Over the next period of time, it stayed under this clover, eating and sleeping every day. Sometimes it would also drive away other bugs that wanted to approach the clover. Of course, it only dared to drive away bugs that were about the same size as it, or smaller than it. If it encountered birds or other ferocious carnivorous insects, it could only hide timidly under the roots of the tree, hoping they wouldn't find it.
A summer quickly passed. The flower of the clover turned into a small fruit, and it also molted several times, becoming a large spider the size of a peanut with its legs extended. At this time, it could spin a web a meter in size, and flies and bees were no match for it at all. Its brethren had either left, scattered, or been captured by other predators.
Just as it thought the days would pass by peacefully, the tranquility was shattered one day by the commotion coming from afar.
"How can there be Proto-Spiders here?"
"I don't know, probably strayed here."
On the trade route, a caravan composed of several Mountain Lord-level Duolai Flame Spiders passed by and was surprised to find several Proto-Spiders weaving large webs by the roadside, which made them take it seriously.
"What should we do? Should we take them back to the ancestral land?"
"Of course, how can we let Proto-Spiders wander outside?"
"Alright." The Mountain Lord-level Duolai Flame Spider tapped its spider leg on the ground: "Little fellows, were you born here?"
"Such a big spider," the Mountain Lord-level Duolai Flame Spider was two to three meters in size when its legs were fully extended. In front of the small Proto-Spiders, which were less than one centimeter, it was simply a behemoth. Seeing such a large spider communicating with them, the little Proto-Spiders were so frightened that they ran around in panic.
Mountain Lord-level Duolai Flame Spider: "…"
In this Primal Force Star Realm, some insects or animals can evolve and transform, but the probability is very small. Only one or two out of a million animals have this luck.
After the insect race evolves, its size will also increase. There are six major realms of insect evolution: Primary, Intermediate, Advanced, Mountain Lord, Lord, and King. Each level is divided into nine age stages. The ones in front of them are Mountain Lord-level giant spiders.
"Little fellows, we are of the same race. I won't hurt you. There is food here, do you want to eat it?" It caught a sparrow, chopped it up with its claws, and threw it onto the little Proto-Spiders' webs.
"Food…" Although the little Proto-Spiders had some intelligence, their intellect was limited. As soon as there was food, they quickly forgot the threat and immediately ran to the meat, spitting silk to wrap it up and eating it with relish.
Seeing them lower their guard, the Mountain Lord-level Duolai Flame Spider tapped the ground again: "Little fellows, how many Proto-Spiders are here? I'll take you home."
"There used to be many, but most of them were eaten by the animals in the forest, and many starved to death." The little Proto-Spiders spared time from their busy lives to respond to them.
"Where are the rest? I'll take you back, so you don't have to worry about other predators anymore. I'll make sure you have plenty to eat every day."
"That…" The little Proto-Spiders pointed in a direction.
"Can you call them all over?"
"I'll go call them." Discovering that these big spiders had no malicious intent, the little Proto-Spiders became bolder and ran into the forest to call the other little Proto-Spiders.
"Four-Leaf, there are big spiders saying they are of our race and will take us back to the clan. Hurry up and come with us." The little Proto-Spider ran to the four-leaf clover and called out to another little Proto-Spider hanging on the web.
This little Proto-Spider had been guarding this four-leaf clover, so the other little Proto-Spiders gave it the name Four-Leaf.
Four-Leaf shook its spider legs: "I'm not going anywhere. I want to guard my fruit."
"Alright," Four-Leaf's stubbornness wasn't something new, so it didn't try to persuade it and turned to notify the other little Proto-Spiders.
Soon, dozens of scattered little Proto-Spiders gathered on the trade route. The Mountain Lord-level Duolai Flame Spider stretched out a leg to let them climb onto the cargo-filled carapace: "Are there no more Proto-Spiders? If not, we should leave."
"There is still one, named Four-Leaf. It's guarding its fruit and refuses to leave."
Several Mountain Lord-level Duolai Flame Spiders twitched their spider legs: "Four-Leaf? A Proto-Spider with a name, could it be a Proto-Spider warrior?"
"Where is it? Let's go take a look together."
"Over there…"
How big could a little Proto-Spider's range of activity be? The furthest they could go was only a dozen meters. This distance was only two steps for the Mountain Lord-level Duolai Flame Spiders.
They quickly arrived at Four-Leaf's location.
After arriving, they were somewhat disappointed to see the peanut-sized little Proto-Spider. It turned out to be just a little Proto-Spider that had completed six or seven molts, no different from other Proto-Spiders.
The Mountain Lord-level Duolai Flame Spider tapped its spider leg on the ground: "Little Proto-Spider, come home with us."
Four-Leaf stubbornly said: "I'm not going back. I want to guard my fruit."
"Fruit?"
The spiders were a little puzzled and subconsciously scanned the surroundings with their mental power, and were all shocked: "A God-Given Seed?"
"A clover God-Given Seed?"
"Yes, it looks like it's about to ripen." Several Mountain Lord-level Duolai Flame Spiders were a little excited, not expecting to find a God-Given Seed just by looking for little Proto-Spiders.
"This is great, the tribe will have another God-Given Seed." The tribe rewards those who find wild God-Given Seeds and bring them back.
"It's a pity it's just a clover, it's worthless." Clover is one of the least valuable God-Given Seeds. Even if it reaches the King level, its annual income is only about 100,000 Primal Stones.
In the Primal Force Star Realm, the insect race possesses a sac that can nurture seeds into Primal Force plants. Ordinary plants nurtured by the insect race's sac and then sown are called Fate Seeds. The fruits produced after Fate Seed plants are sown are called Primal Force food, which can provide resources for the insect race to grow and evolve rapidly.
Within the Primal Force Star Realm, there is also a one in a million chance that plants with innate Primal Force will appear. The insect race believes that this is a gift from the God of Nature and calls these plants God-Given Seeds.
"This is mine," seeing the big spiders ignoring its existence and discussing its fruit, Four-Leaf was a little afraid, but also a little stubborn.
"We know, we know, we won't snatch your God-Given Seed. When your fruit is ripe, will you take the fruit and come back to the ancestral land with us?"
"Do you guarantee you won't snatch my fruit?" Four-Leaf hesitated. Staying here, it didn't know when it would be eaten by a passing bird. It would be safer to go with these big spiders.
"We guarantee!" The Duolai Flame Spiders solemnly said. A clover God-Given Seed was indeed not worth them attacking their own kind.
"I'll replenish some Primal Force to it to speed up its ripening." The Mountain Lord-level Duolai Flame Spider took out a Primal Stone and scraped off powder to allow the fruit to slowly absorb it.
