Nuptial Chamber Next Door

Three years later

Ye Zhengchen stood firm in a classic textbook stance, closed his right eye,aimed and pulled the trigger. He fired ten shots non stop. At the end of the volley, the computer automatically recorded the number of times he hit outside the ring – nine times

He took off his headphones , put the gun down and frowned.

" What happened to you?" Zheng Wei , sitting next to him, asked in surprise.

Ye Zhengchen casually said," Hmm". He dropped on the sofa and massaged his temple.

It wasn't so bad, it could have been worse.

He thought this game would ease his mind. But he hadn't expected that he wouldn't even be able concentrate.

Zheng Wei took two glasses of water and put one in front of him. He sat on the sofa opposite him.

" Did you fight with your old man?"

" I haven't been home for more than a month!"

A few young girls came in. They looked at the two handsome gentlemen and smiled, consciously trying to show off their bodies in the most impressive postures.

Zheng Wei looked at them but Ye Zhengchen simply sipped from the glass, not even bothering to spare a single glance

Not checking out women? He was young and fit, and he should ideally be interested in engaging in some light hearted banter with them. But now, he was only interested in one woman

Thinking of that woman, he unconsciously touched his own cheek and sipped some more water from the glass.

But it did nothing to cure his strange mood

"Come on! I will take you out for  a drink and some authentic Sichuan cuisine. I know a place where the food is great!"

Ye Zhengchen did not say anything. He got up and left the shooting range, leaving the bemused Zheng Wei to catch up with him

Zheng Wei had assumed that Ye Zhengchen would drive directly to the restaurant. Instead, he drove to a small street and stopped there.

"How is the Nanzhou case going?" Ye Zhengchen asked.

" Almost done. Zhong Tian has confessed. We haven't been able to trace the embezzled money but we have uncovered several mansions belonging to Liu in Beijing and Shanghai.. We will let some small fry go to get enough evidence to catch the big fish." Liu was the deputy mayor of Nanzhou.

" Will Zhong Tian get a prison sentence?"

" He did not participate in the embezzlement. On the other hand, he has helped us secure evidence. This will be considered in a favourable light. He won't get a long sentence and there is even a possibility of probation."

Now he understood why Ye Zhengchen was not able to focus on his aim in the shooting range. The Nanzhou case was weighing on his mind.

" Well, did your old lover ask you to help her?"

Ye Zhengchen gazed out of the window. Almost everyone passing by would glance at his car, then look at the brand and look back at the car again

Ocassionally, a few pretty ladies would try to peek at the occupants of the car but would be defeated by the completely opaque window.

Suddenly he wanted to know, if she saw him now, what would her expression be? Would it be one of disgust and contempt?

Zheng Wei said, " It seems the message I sent her was quite effective!"

" If her fiance's life was being threatened, any woman would be upset." Ye Zhenghen had expected her to be anxious and try to save her fiance's life. But he hadn't expected that while she was rational and cool-headed, he would be driven crazy, forced to do ruthless things..

Today she was willing to do anything for Zhong Tian… to the extent of going to bed with another man.

What kind of love was this, that made her do things that hurt her own principles and dignity?

Cloaked in the dark shadows, Ye Zhengchen watched as she emerged

She had changed into a black dress and looked dignified and elegant

However the makeup could not hide her pale face.

She looked fatigues and this gave rise to a dull pain in his heart.

Yesterday, if she had looked so tired, he would have never proceeded , no matter what.

Immersed in his thoughts, he leaned forward, accidentally pressing the car horn.

Startled, she looked back

It suddenly reminded him of that winter long ago

A girl wearing a light pink dress standing on the balcony, her face white as snow, her jet black eyebrows framing her lovely eyes, her exquisite figure displayed in the most attractive fashion..

Lazily, she stretched her arms towards the sun

"Girl!" he called out to her

She looked back at him and smiled sweetly at him, the sweetest smile he could remember..

"Brother, good morning!"

His old love had left him so many memories that were hard to forget, including…

Ruthlessly he held her tight as he sunk into her body; she looked up at him and bit her lower lip; her black hair was spread across the leather seat as one lone tear silently ran down her cheek…

But his most clear and beloved memory was still that sweet smile , and her warm greeting, " Brother, good morning!"
