Obsessed with Regressors
Chapter 11.3
“Oh, sorry.”
She didn’t see anyone standing there looking through the book. She quickly picked up the dropped book and apologized.
“Sorry. I didn’t see you.”
Did the book get scratched? Surprisingly, she looked at the cover and fortunately there were no scratches. The bookshelf was not folded or creased. She lightly shook the book and handed it to the other person.
“Sorry. It’s my fault. Are you hurt?”
The woman had a bewildered expression. She was looking for a book at the bookstore and someone came and bumped into her, so she couldn’t help but be surprised. When she didn’t accept the book, Eugenie checked the title of the book and said,
“This one is fun. It’s a series, but the fourth came out recently.”
“Is that so?”
It looks like she could talk. Eugenie was worried because she didn’t say anything for a while. She hesitantly accepted the book she held out, then looked down at the cover again. Why was she looking like that? Eugenie thought she was shocked, but not because of her, but because of the book.
She tilted her head and asked.
“Are you okay?”
“Uh, no…”
She didn’t know if it’s okay or not. She held out her hand and said.
“I’m Eugenie Biscon.”
“Oh, yes.”
The woman panicked and took her hand. She looked at her and then blushed. Why was that? She was about to ask if there was anything wrong, but she said again.
“Oh, sorry. It’s only Rachel Zerg.”
“It’s nice to meet you.”
She waved Rachel’s hand lightly, said hello, and let go. And apologized again.
“I’m sorry for bumping into you. Are you hurt anywhere?”
“Oh, yes. yes. are you okay. I’m fine… .”
After saying that, Rachel’s gaze turned to the book she was holding. Eugenie thought she was shocked by this book from a while ago. But before she could ask what was going on, Rachel said.
“People seem to think surprisingly similar.”
“What?”
“This book. I was thinking about this too.”
Similar thoughts? When Eugenie made a face asking what she was talking about, Rachel said with an embarrassed expression.
“The contents of this book. This, a man who lost his friend to a monster goes hunting for monsters, right?”
Yes. The book Rachel was reading was a series about a man who lost his best friend to a monster and went hunting for monsters, and each book had a different monster to catch. It had become quite popular, so it was being made into a play, or so she was told.
“Me too, um…”
Rachel hesitated for a moment, then she put on a look of embarrassment again. Eugenie looked through the book and tilted her head. And she asked Rachel.
“Haven’t you seen it before?”
“No. Actually, my main character is a woman.”
“Oh.”
That’s a bit different because this novel had a male protagonist. Rachel said with a slightly relieved expression at her reaction.
“I showed it to a friend and they talked about this novel. It’s similar. So I came to check…”
“It’s similar?”
“Similar?” her face contorted. Rachel said with a look that she didn’t know what to do. “It’s the same. Except for the main character.”
Could it be? She couldn’t understand and blinked her eyes. How could Rachel’s be the same if she hadn’t read this book? Even this book came out this year. The first series came out and became so popular that the second and third series came out, and all of them happened within this year, and rumors were circulating that the author was a genius.
“I feel like I’ve been tricked by a fairy.”
Rachel let out a sigh as she said that. She knew. Maybe it was a prank by the fairies. She had heard that in the past, things like fairies playing pranks happened quite a bit. She said, pulling her business card out of her arms to comfort the utterly despondent Rachel.
“If there is anything I can help with, let me know.”
She didn’t know what she could do to help, but at least she could treat her to tea and snacks. And she could hear the story.
Rachel seemed distraught. She looked at the business card she gave her and put it in her arms and thanked her. And she started looking at the book again.
“Here you are, Lady Biscon.”
As she headed back to her counter, the owner handed me a paper-covered book. She told them to put it on the ledger and left the bookstore.
After being out for a little, a coffee shop with delicious sandwiches came to mind. No, no. Today she tried to eat cake.
‘So, let’s go to a place where the cake is delicious.’
However, as she moved on, her desire for sandwiches rose again. Oh, what should she do? Shall she go to a cafe where sandwiches were delicious? As she turned to change her destination, she noticed strange movements in the distance. What? She casted her gaze toward the alley where someone just disappeared as if they were running away. Did she see wrong?
She looked towards the alley some more, and after making sure no one was there, she turned around. She wanted to eat cake too. Sandwiches were for dinner tonight.
“Welcome, Lady Biscon.”
When she entered the teahouse, the manager greeted her. He directed her to her favorite spot and took her order. Shall she read the book now? She opened the book she had put down on the table. Then she raised her head and cast her gaze out the window.
“Huh?”
Another strange sight came into view. She saw the man on the other side of the road quickly turn around. What? She stared, wondering what was going on, but the man walked away. What did she see?
But to say that she saw something similar twice today. Besides, she felt strange.
“The tea you ordered is here.”
Just then, the manager came over with tea and cake. It looked delicious. Her eyes lit up when she saw the fruit cakes this store boasted. Maybe it’s her misunderstanding. Was there no reason for someone to follow her? After taking a sip of tea, she opened the book. But it still felt strange. The story of the strange person she had met twice and the story of Rachel whom she met at the bookstore was spinning around in her head, so the contents of the book were not exciting at all.
“Are you sure the cake doesn’t suit your taste?”
In the end, she got up after two hours. There were too many things to worry about, so the manager asked after seeing quite a bit of cake left over from eating the cake.
‘Oops, sorry. It’s the pride of this store, so I would have done something to see so many left.’ she thought with an apologetic expression.
“No, it was very tasty. But I remembered that there was something urgent.”
“Ah, I see.”
The manager sent her off with a sad expression. She left the store saying that she would definitely come back next time with an expression of regret.
‘Oops.’
As soon as she left the store, she realized she had made a mistake. Before she got up, asked the manager to call for a carriage. If that were the case, she wouldn’t have to hold the wagon. But it had already happened. She sighed at the shortness of her thoughts and started looking at the street.
‘Uh. Again.’
She saw the man she had seen twice today turn around. She had never seen his face, but she could immediately recognize him as the same person because he was dressed the same. What was it? She wanted to ask why was he following her around? She was actually going to ask if Elliot hadn’t shown up.
“Eugenie.”
The moment she stepped out to reach the man, the carriage stopped in front of him. And Elliot opened the carriage door and greeted her.
“Elliot? What is it?”
Oliver was invited to Elliot’s house today.
‘Wait, what time is it?’ Since she went when she was hungry, she thought that everyone should have gone home by now.
“I heard you can’t come today because you have work. It seems the promise is over.”
Elliot said instead of answering her question, “What’s going on here?” Oh right. She said he couldn’t go because she had work. After remembering her excuse, she nodded and said.
“Yes, sorry. Next time I have a chance, I will definitely go.”
Elliot looked at her as if he knew she hadn’t worked. Of course, she made an expression that she didn’t know why.
Elliot opened the door a little wider, and he said.
“Are you going home? I will give you a ride.”
She was thankful, because she was going to ride the hire car anyway. But as she was about to get into his carriage, an idea came to her mind. The man who was following her earlier. Who was it?
If she was alone, it would be wise to quickly get into the carriage and go home. But now she caught a dragon in front of her eyes, ah, no. There was a person who came back alive even after confronting the dragon.
“Can I ask you one favor?”
She straightened up and asked Elliot. He said without changing his expression.
“Just talk.”
“Will you keep your distance and follow me?”
One of Elliot’s eyebrows went up. He opened his mouth with a look that he wanted to ask, but kept it shut. Then he nodded and said.
“All right.”
Soon the door closed and Elliot’s carriage left. She checked across the street, but the man from before was nowhere to be seen. Did he go? Maybe it was the case. It was possible that he thought she was riding Elliot’s carriage and left.
She made up her mind and started walking slowly down the street. Not towards the house, but towards the street where the dressing room was located.
