Obsessed with Regressors
Chapter 12.4
Surprisingly, Oliver put on a proud expression. He didn’t like handsome men. He was sure their faces weren’t for free.
He shrugged and said.
“Because I am the one who will become Count Biscon?”
“If you become the son-in-law of any Marquis or Duke, you will do better than the Count of Biscon, won’t you?”
Or be the husband of a princess. There was no princess, though.
“Why should I think of giving up what I already have and marrying a girl from a Marquess or Duchy that doesn’t even exist?”
Oh, did he know that there are no unmarried women in the marquis or duchy? She clapped her hands with a surprised expression. She didn’t know Oliver had such knowledge. Oliver, of course, looked displeased, and she stopped clapping her hands and said,
“The same goes for Lauren. I guess running a dressing room is more than enough to raise her status.”
Oliver still looked incomprehensible. That’s why she did it earlier. All Oliver had was good looks. His personality was completely pathetic and annoying.
“They say she doesn’t even have the talent for making clothes. Will that work? I mean, find a stable future…”
It sounded boring so she cut off Oliver.
“Is there any guarantee that our family won’t fall apart if my brother becomes the Count of Biscon?”
“Eugenie, you talk too much.”
“My brother said harsh things about someone else’s life first.”
She didn’t want to talk to Oliver anymore. She got up from her seat. She should go to my room and read a book. But to her annoyance, Oliver followed her and asked.
“Ah, I’m worried about her…”
“Oliver, do you know what her name is?”
Did he even know Lauren’s name? Sure enough, Oliver began to hesitate. And he mumbled.
“Victoria?”
“Oh, last name?”
“Castle? Uh, last name was Adams, maybe?”
“Wow, that’s great.”
At her praise, Oliver briefly said ‘Huh?’ and then he put on a proud expression. In contrast, she was confused. Oh my gosh, her family was going to be ruined.
“What are you proud of? You got everything wrong. Her name is Lauren Liz.”
Oliver’s face contorted at her point. He realized that she had been teasing him, and he sighed in anger and said it as if it was unfair.
“Does everyone think that way when they see her?”
“To say exactly what you think is something only a four-year-old would do. The person who will become Count of Biscon must be someone who understands the situation and knows the bare minimum of manners.”
Oliver’s face flashed back to her, and she shrugged her shoulders with a look of ‘what if’.
“Then Julia is angry because I called her friend pretty, or because I told her what to do with her friend’s life?”
‘Oh my God, thank you.’
She was relieved that there was such a thing as an eye for Oliver. The Biscons would not perish.
“Both.”
“Both?”
She shrugged her shoulders at Oliver’s response.
“She is her friend. You can be jealous and worried at the same time. Aren’t you brother?”
Men don’t get jealous at the same time as worried? Never?
Luckily, men seemed to be like that too. Oliver looked surprised. He looked at her blankly and spoke in a low voice.
“Yes.”
She didn’t know why he was surprised. She was about to ask why, but the butler approached me at the bottom of the stairs. He looked at me asking if he needed anything, as he always does with Oliver and me, then looked at me and said:
“A woman wants to meet you, what should I do?”
“A woman?”
No one was scheduled to visit today. Julia also came without contact. But Julia was Julia, so it’s possible. Her family and Escalee’s family were relatives, and Julia was close to her family. Was there a woman that could come without contacting her first? She thought so, but the butler said.
“She hesitated in front of the house. There were no business cards or letters. However, she says she met the lady at her bookstore.”
Bookstore? She didn’t think of it at first. She met her at the bookstore? The only person she would ever meet at a bookstore was the bookstore owner? But right away, she remembered the woman she bumped into. Wait, what was her name?
“Is she a stranger?”
The butler’s expression became determined. He quickly added that he would kick her out right away.
“No, she is someone I know. Please let her in.”
The butler quickly nodded with a softened expression. Oliver asked curiously as he withdrew to greet her guests.
“The woman you met at the bookstore?”
“Uh, I told her to come if she needed help with anything.”
Did she give her her business card? She did not remember. But the next moment, the name of the woman she met at the bookstore flashed into her mind. Rachel! It’s Rachel Zergman.
“You told her to come if she needed help? Anyone knows?”
“No, that’s not it.”
“My God, Eugenie.”
Oliver sighed in disapproval and touched his forehead. No, so it seemed like she did something stupid.
“I said no one should help strangers like that.”
“When?”
She asked shamelessly at Oliver’s words. She was sure she had heard such a story before. But it wasn’t Oliver who said it, it was their mother. Her brother was taken aback by her question, and she took advantage of the opportunity to head to the small parlor where the butler showed Rachel.
“Oh my God, lady…, no, lady…, uh, lady, right?”
When Rachel, who was sitting in the parlor, saw her, she was startled and jumped to her feet. It seems she didn’t know that she was the daughter of the Count of Biscon.
“Yes, it’s Lady Biscon.”
“I-I didn’t know you back then, so I was being rude…”
What disrespect? She sat down on the sofa across from Rachel and widened her eyes. She never did or said anything that could be called rude. She stopped, as if Rachel remembered that she hadn’t really acted like that.
“Uh, so I don’t know and excuse me…”
“Because I didn’t tell you.”
She did not introduce herself as Lady Biscon. If she didn’t tell her, how would she know? She didn’t think it’s rude that she didn’t know Eugenie was Lady Biscon. She waved her hand with a look that said don’t mind. And she told her
“Sit down please.”
Rachel had a worried look on her face. But when Eugenie told her to sit down, she sat on the couch and straightened her back.
“Are you okay?”
Only then did Eugenie realize that she had a bandage on her wrist. Bandages were wrapped around her right hand and her wrist. She asked reflexively, then she asked again in surprise.
“Could it be that you were hurt because of me then?”
“No.”
Rachel was also surprised by her question and answered quickly. She meant, she didn’t get hurt when she bumped into her. She asked with a suspicious expression.
“Really? If you are hurt because of me, I will pay for the treatment.”
If she was doing it because she was afraid it would burden Eugenie, then she didn’t have to. She could call her doctor and ask for treatment. But it seemed that it really had nothing to do with her. She looked down at her own hand and wrapped her left hand around the bandaged right hand and wrist. And she looked at me again and she said.
“Actually, you said before that I could come anytime I needed help, right?”
“Yes. What’s going on?”
She would do anything to help, she said so. Rachel hesitated again, then opened her mouth.
“I don’t know if that’s my misunderstanding.”
What’s going on? Meanwhile, a servant came in with refreshments. Rachel kept her mouth shut while the servant set down the tea and cake. It seemed that she wanted no one but her to hear it.
“Listen. That cake is very delicious. Thanks to that, the cook in our house is very angry.”
She offered Rachel cake to cheer her up while the servant poured the tea. It’s the cake that she ate and left behind. Her cook, Ruth, grumbled when she, of course, asked him to buy a whole cake as if she didn’t like his cake. And to be honest, Ruth’s cake was so-so. What he was good at was cooking, and among it, pie for dinner was the best.
“Oh, it’s delicious.”
Rachel said, conscious of the servant’s eyes, chewing on a tiny bit of the cake in her mouth. Just by looking at her expression, it seemed that she forced her to eat paper. Fortunately, the servant didn’t care and left, leaving only the words to call if they needed anything.
“Try the tea too. It’s my favorite when it’s cold, but it goes well with something sweet.”
It’s the only tea she drank in her house. Her mother and Oliver hated it because it was too heavy and bitter, but she liked it because it went best with the cake. Sometimes she even drank a cup of this tea as soon as she woke up in the morning.
Rachel took a sip of the tea with a look that she couldn’t help it. There was a lot of time. She sipped the tea and waited for Rachel to work up the courage to talk.
“I don’t know if I’m too sensitive…”
Finally Rachel opened her mouth. She quickly removed her mouth from the teacup and said.
“I’ll listen to the story and judge that.”
Fortunately, it seemed to have eased her mind a little. Rachel said with her face slightly relaxed.
“I think someone is trying to hurt me.”
