Omegaverse: The Alpha X’s Prey

"How'd you get your mommies to let you draw on your face?" Donovan was currently poking Jerry's Chinese dragon tattoo when Gabrielle walked into the house. She figured that her friends were taken by the child's adorableness and out of protectiveness brought him inside. He was unsupervised on the tire swing. Oops.

"I'm not even allowed to draw on my hand!" Donovan pouted, shooting everyone's hearts with love. Too cute!

"That's because you'll get sick sweet pea." Gabrielle laughed before looking at the crowd of her most trusted comrades gathered around the kitchen island. They've known each other since they graduated military school together, so it's been a little over ten years. She smiled tenderly towards the crowd of unruly burly boys. As they are not one for sentimental greetings, Gabrielle immediately got right into planning.

"Here's the plan…"

While the ȧduŀts were talking and meticulously planning, Donovan had fallen asleep in someone's ŀȧp. It had been an eventful day for him and he did miss nap time to visit omega mommy at the hospital. By the time he had woken, he was strapped to Gabrielle's back. He was instantly awake when he saw the same scene from his memories: a starry sky behind forrest tree tops.

The familiar scent of his alpha mother calmed him down.

"The tyke's awake." Jerry panted from behind Gabrielle whilst waving Donovan a small hello. She hoisted Donovan's weight in response. His midnight colored skin was hard to see in the darkness. Donovan only realized he was waving after his eyes adjusted. Like the polite gentleman his mommies raised him to be Donovan waved his hand back.

"Be quiet for Mommy ok?" She said between breaths. They were all running towards the Lab. Who knows what the monsters could have done to her baby during the many hours they held him confined.

"Ok." Donovan snuggled up to Gabrielle's back comfortably. He felt safe with his alpha mommy and Uncle Bertie around. They always protect him.

But wait! What's this?

Donovan felt a growing panic. It came out of nowhere. and started out small-just an inkling of fear. The more the omega brushed it aside the worse it grew. It quickly escalated into something that the omega's body and mind could not comprehend. His world went dark. His mind blank, yet chaotic.

"Gil. Something's wrong with the tyke!" Jerry's panicked voice stopped everyone's hearts. No one really knows why Gil brought her adopted son on the mission and obviously everyone was strongly against it. But Iris had called and briefly informed the rescue team. They begrudgingly accepted the child. Telling the parents that the team will not be responsible for any harm to Donovan.

Iris agreed instantly, increasing Gilbert's contempt towards her.

Gabrielle felt all the unnatural movement and quickly unstrapped the child from her back. His eyes were rolled back and his mouth was gaping open. Both arms and legs were flayed about, convulsing uncontrollably.

"Is he having a seizure?" Another voice asked.

"What did I say Gil? Huh? What did I say?" Gilbert whisper-yelled, eyes blazed with intense fury. Fists clenched so tightly Gabrielle was sure her twin drew blood.

"What do we do? Is the mission over?"

Gabrielle seemed calm. Her expression unwavering, however inside she was frightened. Panicking, her mind racing through many scenarios. Should she leave the boy behind and come back for him after they rescue her son? Should she abandon the mission? Should she go on as if though nothing happened?

Her fear was short lived when Donovan's bright amber eyes stared back. As though the episode displayed never happened.

Everyone was confused. Confused, but greatly relieved to see the child back to... normal. Minor setback to the mission though.

Possibly major.

"He found out. Maverick told them we were coming. They're hiding the baby now. He's above surface, guarding." Donovan said immediately once his parched throat was relieved. He rushed his words, only the twin alphas understood the garbled noises emitting from Donovan's mouth.

"Maverick? Who's Maverick?" Jerry demanded, it was the only word he could make out.

Donovan was quiet. He turned to his alpha mommy for permission to say. Gabrielle gave a nod. Her heart beating.

Please don't let it be what I think it is. Please don't let it be what I think it is. The mantra was chanted inside the alpha female's heart. There was silence. Gabrielle looked intently at Donovan.

"A monster. Maverick is a monster." Donovan said. He had bitten his lip with too much force. Red blood slid from the corner of his mouth down to his chin. "And he looks just like me."

In that moment the child instilled fear in Gabrielle's heart. The same fear she felt when she thought she was going to lose Iris forever. Never once did she think she'd ever feel like that again. But the sight of the small child with with bright orange eyes glowing under the moonlight with an expression much too old for him, Gabrielle felt the same fear she swore never to let herself succumb into.

That became vow meaningless the moment that same fear grabbled her heart. The same way it did years ago. Like an animal, relentless and desperate. A stray doing everything in its power to survive an unescapable death seconds before a gruesome ending.

Everyone's eyes widened at Gabrielle's wide-eyed pale expression and Gilbert's set jaw from clenching his teeth.

What have I gotten myself into? The question echoed everyone's mind.
