Omegaverse: The Alpha X’s Prey

Chapter 38 - it's for the best

~Kitchen~

Eddie had just finished his glass of juice when Alfie stormed into the kitchen. Right away he noticed the small cuts on his arms and the obvious bruising forming on the corner of his lip and his knuckles.

Eddie watched quietly as the alpha flung the fridge door to grab the milk carton out. The he proceded to drink all of the contents in one go.

Now that's a manly man.

Eddie laughed quietly at his thought. Everything Alfie does is overexaggeratedly glorified in his eyes. Alfie turned, noticing Eddie's presence for the first time.

"Right. The project." Realization flashed across Alfie's mind. He had forgotten everything in the midst of... well everything that happened today.

"Soooo, your room or mine?" Eddie got up to lean against the kitchen island blocking the two. He was not so subtly asking permission to see his private living quarters.

"The living room." Alfie would never let any other omega beside his brothers and omega mother inside. Besides there was still that mess there.

"Oh." Dejected, but Eddie didn't want to give up. As they made their way to the designated area, Eddie casually slipped a question. "Can I meet Donovan?"

"No." The reply came sharper than he intended to.

"Alrighty Mr. Alpha." The pixie like boy brushed it off with an easy going smile and flirtatious shrug. But it did little to conceal the hurt in his dark eyes. Of course Alfie didn't notice. He never notices the little things with Eddie. But that will change one day.

As two unsuspecting boys worked on their project, Gabrielle sneakily went up into Alfie's room to clean the mess. Another omega's scent in Alfie's room should make Donovan back off. It's be even better if Eddie would release some of his pheromones.

Finally satisfied with the cleanliness of her youngest's room, she happily went downstairs. Not much time had taken up, being a stay-at-home-parent made Gabrielle very efficient.

"Alfie dear, why don't you take your project upstairs? You know how Iris gets when there's a mess in the living room." Gabrielle made sure to emphasize her mate's name. Alfie couldn't say anything to refute what his mother said. He felt uncomfortable that his alpha mother was kicking him out of the living room.

Eddie's eyes brightened.

"We can work in the kitchen."

The pixie's eyes dimmed.

"You'll get in the way of dinner."

"It's only three pm."

Dimmed...

"I'm making a special dinner for my darling." Gabrielle inwardly smirked. All of her boys know how she overly dotes on her mate.

....and YES! Eddie openly smiled. Was it just him or did Mrs. Oaks give him a wink?

"Yes mom..." Alfie reluctantly got up and packed all of their things inside his backpack before slinging it over his shoulder. "Follow me."

"Ay ay captain!" Eddie made a mock salute as he obediently stood up. He blindly followed the giant halfway up the stairs before realization struck him. "I left my things... brb!"

At the sound of the unfamiliar voice and a very noticeable sickenly sweet stench which seeped under the bedroom door, Donovan's eyes were immediately wide awake. Alert. Who is this intruder?

"Yeesh, you're such an airhead Ed."

Donovan's eyes widened at the sound of Alfie's voice. Alfie brought an omega home. Instantly he felt betrayed. How could Alfie...?

Bitterness coursed through Donovan's veins. He was in no position to feel betrayed.

"The heck? Where'd the mess go?"

Donovan couldn't help but laugh. Gabrielle must have cleaned up after him...

Of course she would. It's the first time Alfie brought home an omega. Donovan turned away from the door and slipped deeper in his bed, hoping that it would block out the new scent. It was obviously a futile attempt. The disgusting scent became stronger the closer this "Ed" got.

Using an enhanced hearing ability, Donovan got up to lean against the door.

"Alright you got this. Be cool. Be cool." Eddie's mutterings were heard loud and clear.

Instantly Donovan knew that the omega had feelings for Alfie. He doesn't blame Ed. Its Alfie. Of course there'd be many people falling for him.

"Knock knock?" A flirtatious sing-song voice pierced the eavesdropper's ears. The door to Alfie's room is always open. It's obvious this vixen wanted to announce his precsense.

"You can put your things against the wall-" There was a commotion.

"Wow your bed is so soft!"

From the other side of the door, Donovan was bȧrėly containing himself. How dare he lay in his bed? How dare he...

How dare he have these bitter feelings of jealousy?

The last question was meant for Donovan. He couldn't bear to listen anymore. He didn't want to break his heart even more. But he didn't want to leave.

After much debate, Donovan tore his ear from the door before staggering back into bed. The ability drained his already weak body immensely.

"It's for the best." Donovan whispered to no one in particular before falling into a restless, dreamless sleep.

It's for the best.
