Omegaverse: The Alpha X’s Prey

Chapter 46 - just takes some getting used to...

Just when Easton decided to turn around and look for Donovan, the door suddenly swung open.

"Don't. Cross. The line." The beta enunciated each word unfriendly. "Capische?"

"What happens if I do?" Easton wasn't trying to throw sass at this strange creature, he only asked out of innocent curiosity.

"Then you and I are gonna have a problem." The beta leaned in close to Easton, his brown pool were filled with malice. "Got that?"

"Mkay. So am I top or bottom bunk?" Easton pretended not to see the threat. Gabrielle and Iris told him that many dorms have bunk beds which is like a layered bed. Easton personally wished he could be on the top bunk.

The beta sighed. This is going to be a long year.

~Omega Dorms, Donovan's Room~

Donovan's eye twitched. The past two months have not treated him well.

First, Mark went missing after their phone call. There was a campus-wide search for him but he vanished into thin air. Second, Donovan didn't dare visit his family once the information of his adoption came out. Third, with Mark's disappearance and the situation at home, Maverick took advantage of Donovan's turmoil and forcefully entered his mind.

Now, the celebrity enrolled at the very university Donovan is at.

The said celebrity like a dumb dog waited outside of the omega dorms. Obviously searching for Easton.

Imagine the buzz around the university. Scratch that. Imagine the news all around the country. Everybody wants a glimpse of Maverick Morris. Everybody wants a piece of him.

<Leave.>

<No, Easton's coming!>

<LEAVE>

<...is this because I entered without permission?>

<No you're making a scene! And in front of the omega dorms mind you.>

<So what?>

<Other omega students now think you're quite desperate for a mate. To go as far as to wait in front of the omega dorms>

<As long as I don't break in it should be fine.>

Donovan banged his head against his room wall. Luckily he applied for a single room, so no roommate!

Maverick is just so stubborn! Sometimes Donovan wishes he could just slap some common sense into his older twin. But he wouldn't. No one should expect to come out unscathed when provoking the almighty Alpha f*cking X.

Donovan broke off their connection. If Maverick wants to make a fool of himself that's up to him. The omega wondered what was going on inside his parents' and the Lab officials' heads when they agreed to this atrocious request.

The thought of Maverick's parents brought a twang to his heart. Maverick's parents are also Donovan's parents. But they chose to abandon him.

At least there's Iris. The closest figure to a parent. But there was always a fine line between Donovan and his adoptive omega mother. Iris always made sure to keep Donovan at a distance.

The auburn head had a splitting headache. Undoubtedly from all the stress accumulated over summer. Mark is still missing. A batch of Anti-X is missing... and now Donovan needs to continuously make Anti-Omega pills for Easton.

Donovan fell onto his bed, not bothering with his clothes. The more he tried to veer his thoughts away from Alfie, the more Donovan thought about him.

"If only I..." Donovan's quiet voice cracked. "Never existed."

He is just so tired. So tired of everything.

With that, Donovan fell into another restless dreamless sleep.

~Oaks' Residence~

"Mom?" Alfie asked tentatively as they rounded the corner to his high school.

"Yes sweet pea?" Gabrielle was more fidgety than usual. She wished she could be there with Easton but it'd just be too suspicious. You never know who's watching.

"Can I visit Easton over the weekend?" Before Gabrielle had a chance to respond, Alfie continued. "I want to stay over too, you know... just in case."

Gabrielle was conflicted. She knows that the minute she loosens her hold on Alfie, he'll run straight towards that monster.

"I'm sorry darling. No can do. You don't want your brother to rely on us too much... right?"

"But the first week away from home is always the hardest!" Alfie stubbornly rebutted.

"We'll discuss this at home." Just as Gabrielle pulled up to the drop off spot her eyes perked up.

"Look your friend from last time seems to be waiting for you."

Immediately Alfie felt cold. In the midst of preparing Easton to go to school... he'd forgotten about that steamy kiss with Eddie just before summer arrived.

"Ummm, we're not friends anymore." Alfie didn't add anything to that before getting out and shutting the door.

Gabrielle watched as Eddie tried to come up to Alfie, only to have the latter brush him off.

She sighed as she drove away to her now empty house.

The loneliness seeped through her long before she arrived home.

"It just takes some getting used to."

She only hopes that it is enough to protect him in the real world.
