Aizawa Mika’s viewpoint, Part ③ :

Since going to karaoke with Tōyama and his friends, Yumi has been hanging out with us after school more and more often.

As we became closer, I began to call Takai-san, Yumi.

Today, at Yumi’s request, Marika, myself and I came to Hanseidō to buy books.

「Yumi, you are reading a difficult book.」

The book Yumi is holding in her hand is one that is lined up in a corner I am unlikely to ever enter. The information pop-up sign says “Pure Literature.”

「Really? I don’t think it’s difficult. It’s just hard to understand.」

What is the difference between difficult and incomprehensible? It was already incomprehensible to me.

According to Yumi’s explanation, pure literature is a work that emphasizes artistry and pursues the beauty and fluidity of writing. Famous examples include Osamu Dazai’s “No Longer Human” and Kenji Miyazawa’s “Night on the Galactic Railroad.”

I’ve heard of both, but Night on the Galactic Railroad sounds like something I could read in terms of the title, but No Longer Human seems impossible based on the title. What do you mean, by a disqualified human? I don’t get it.

Is it that thing? It’s like a text version of a painting. Like a picture that a layman can’t tell if it’s good or bad.

「I think it’s impossible for me. I’m not good at reading text to begin with.」

「Mika only reads manga, right? You’d better read a book because you won’t be able to write kanji.」

「Even Marika used to read only manga until a little while ago. I don’t want to be told by you, who started reading books with impure motives just to get close to Tōyama.」

「W–Wait, Mika! W–What are you saying? I–It’s not like that!」

I deliberately tried to smell Marika in front of Yumi’s eyes as if she had a liking for Tōyama and asked for her reaction.

「Eh? I thought you didn’t. I’m sorry if I misunderstood~」

「Mika…… You did that on purpose, didn’t you?」

「Who knows?」

Marika reacts in a way that is easy to understand, but Yumi actually has no facial expression and is not easy to read her emotions. I would have thought that Marika would react in some way if I made a comment that she had a liking for Tōyama, but she remained expressionless.

Well, it’s obvious that Marika has feelings for Tōyama, so it’s no surprise now.

「But serious talk, Mika should read a book too. You’ll learn to read kanji, and if you find a genre you like, it’s fun to read in your spare time.」

「I feel like an elementary school student when I say that I can read kanji. But Marika’s brain was not nourished because all the nutrients went to her boobs, so she became an idiot.」

Saying this, I ran my hands around Marika’s ample breasts from behind and grabbed them.

「Hyaaah!」

—W–What a volume this had… My little hands can’t fit through it?

「Marika… Have your breasts gotten bigger again? They don’t fit in my hand anymore.」

「Uehara-san, I envy you for your big boobs.」

Yumi puts her hands on her breasts and envies them. She and I are both rather small. There was only a slight bulge.

No… Yumi is a little bigger than me? I felt a little impatient.

「Hey, Marika, why don’t you share a little of your big, useless boobs with us?」

Boys like bigger boobs, don’t they? Is this a disadvantage for Yumi actually?

「Ugh, what are you two talking about here already? It’s embarrassing. Stop it.」

When I looked around, I saw three high school girls talking about boobs and other things that made them stand out because of the noise they were making.

Young boys were staring at us. You saw some good stuff thanks to us, didn’t you? You all should be thankful.

Marika said she was embarrassed to be seen by the customers around her, so we paid Yumi’s bill and we left the sales floor.

We moved to a café and had a nice chat.

「Hey, Yumi, are you actually quite blind?」

I was curious about the big glasses with thick frames, so I asked.

「I don’t have bad eyesight. This is a pair of fashionable eyeglass.」

「Eh? I thought they weren’t fake glasses…」

Yumi took off her glasses and showed them to me.

Yuzumi, who had taken off her fake glasses, looked as beautiful as expected. To be clear, she is beautiful.

「Ah, it really is. Takai-san, why are you wearing those fake glasses?」

Marika questioned.

I could understand if it was a fashion statement, but these fake glasses were not flattering.

「I… uhm… I wasn’t confident in my true appearance…」

What is this girl talking about? If you say you’re not confident with that, you’re picking a fight with most girls.

Why does Yumi actually have such low self-esteem?

「Ehh! Takai-san is super beautiful, and you thought of yourself that way?」

Marika also seems surprised.

「Being beautiful… I don’t think I was one but…」

Yumi actually seems to lack self-confidence and is skeptical of what we say.

「I think it would be a shame to hide the fact that Yumi is such a lovely person.」

It may be none of my business, but I thought that by hiding her face, Yumi was actually losing a lot of money.

「Yes, I think it would be very cute if you took off the fake glasses and changed your hair anyway. I’ll try to find a picture of a hairstyle that would look good on you, Takai-san.」

Marika operated her smartphone, searched through a hair style catalog, and showed it to us.

「What do you think about this?」

Marika showed me a picture of her with a short bob.

「If your hair is left completely black, it will look heavy, so you might want to dye it a little brighter.」

Yumi actually has semi-long hair now, so a short bob might be good in terms of length.

Marika has always been good at choosing coordinated outfits that suit the person. I guess she has that kind of sense.

「What do you think? This kind of haircut. I think it looks good on Yumi.」

I looked at my phone and gave my honest opinion.

「Do you think it will suit me?」

Yumi actually seemed to like it and her expression softened a bit.

「Marika chose it, so I’m sure it will look great on you. She is good at coordinating people’s outfits.」

「I picked out clothes for Tōyama for him the other day. I wish I could show them both because he look awesome and cool.」

Come to think of it, Marika also said that Tōyama’s clothing selection was also done by her. She says it’s good looking, but I’m sure the evaluation is based on Marika’s love correction.

「Maybe if Yumi changed her hair, took off her glasses, and got rid of her glasses, she could appeal to Tōyama with more confidence.」

I have a feeling that Yumi has been somewhat concerned about Tōyama lately.

「Ehh!? Are you also concerned about Tōyama, Takai-san?」

Marika said “also” and seemed to have no intention of hiding it at all.

「I, uhm… help, I mean, I don’t care about Toyama-kun…」

Yumi seems to be denying it at least for the moment, but she is not very articulate, mispronouncing Toyama’s name and so on.

…Yeah— I can’t make a decision based on this one.

W–Will there be another opportunity and will I slowly ask them out?

I will continue to keep an eye on Marika and Yumi.
