Part Time Romance

Chapter 13:Plan : Cupid

As Maya started working at Stark Corp, she realised that she bumped into Lucas everywhere. He was there as she left for work, he was in every meeting she attended, he was even in the cafeteria! She was bothered by it but she didn't say anything as he didn't try talking to her. He would just be professional or at home ignore her.

As Lucas continued creating "accidental" bump ins with Maya, he became more and more moody and down. He didn't want to bother her but at the same time he couldn't give up the opportunity to see her. It was as if he just couldn't get through a day without seeing her. He changed his entire schedule to shadow her around, but she never acknowledged him always being professional at work and a stranger anywhere else.

Looking at his boss looking glum and depressed, his assistant decided to play cupid. He created more bump ins and even crossed all her projects to end up under the boss directly which meant she would need to report to him regarding every project she did. Maya was perturbed by the change of hierarchy but maintained her cool. She just wanted to finish her work and once she gained even experience, start her own company.

Eventhough Lucas was a pig to her emotionally, he was still the best Tech genius in the world. Learning from him was a golden opportunity, not many attained in their lifetime. As Maya walked into his office ready to update him regarding her latest project, she was stunned at what she encountered.

Danielle was sitting on Lucas' chair and he stood by her side showing her something on the computer. He was smiling and explaining something very patiently and Danielle was mesmerized by his face. She just blushed as she listened on.

As soon as Maya walked in, they looked up and all three were silent for a second. Maya felt a sudden rush of anger and jealousy towards Danielle and Lucas. Eventhough she was her cousin but the fact that she was sitting in Lucas seat and beaming at him caused ulcers in Maya's gut. She paused and realised she shouldn't be bothered with what happens between them as they were adults and none of her concern.

Lucas walked her out and closed the door behind him. He hesitated for a second before he locked it. Maya turned at the sound of the lock, arching her eyebrows at him questionably. " It is so that we won't be disturbed," explained Lucas. Well you should have done that earlier, scoffed Maya internally.

She turned professional the minute he sat down and started explaining the progress of the project and their estimated time of completion. As she ploughed on, Lucas just stared at her lovingly. Maya was a bit uncomfortable with the look he was giving her. She hated him but that didn't mean she was immune to his charms. " Why in the world are you staring at me that way?" she questioned reaching her limit. " I just remembered how you looked first thing in the morning on my bed," he said. She gaped at him. They were in the office, why would he say such an inappropriate thing to her.

" Can we please stick to work related topics," she warned him. " I miss you," Lucas continued. She started cracking her knuckles in frustration. " Can we not do this? I have tonnes of work to get back to," she said sullenly. " Are you overworked? Should I reduce your projects?" enquired Lucas in concern. " No! I love my work and I don't need your interference," she curtly answered.

Lucas made a mental note to go through her workload later.

She walked out of his office with a headache. He said he missed her but he was busy flirting with her cousin not 10 minutes before. She was more certain about her perception of him. She would not be made the fool again. Whether her cousin wanted to tangle herself with him was her problem, not mine, thought Maya to herself.

As she reached home, she got her periods. No wonder she was in such a mood today. Her periods were quite bad. She would have dizzy spells and be weak for days. Her low blood count did not help either. She sighed and continued with her house chores. She decided to start on dinner but realised she ran out of rice. She decided to go to the asian market nearby.

As she walked out she started feeling dizzy, she held onto the wall for support. She decided to forget cooking and just go back in and order something. The moment she unlocked her door she fell to the ground. She was partially conscious as she realised someone carried her into her apartment and placed her on her bed. She woke to the sound of someone talking on the phone.

She was worried about who the stranger in her apartment was but this was the worst episode she had had. She was unable to maintain consciousness. The next time she woke was to the pain of someone sticking a needle in her arm. She then fell asleep again.

She woke up much later a bit weak but much better than before. She blinked carefully trying to focus. She looked at the IV line attached to her and the solution flowing through. She then looked at the person sitting next to her bed. It was a middle aged man with a head full of shaggy brown hair. He was reading a book by her bed.

He looked at her the minute she woke and smiled, " You are awake." " Who are you?" asked Maya a bit petrified with the thought of a stranger in her house. " I am Dr. Campbell, I have been observing you and making sure you are hydrated. Do you have these fainting spells often?" he enquired. " Yes but they have never been this bad for a long time. My doctor said its because of my low blood count," explained Maya. he nodded and checked her pulse. " I am sorry but I don't remember calling a doctor," she tried saying. " I called him," said the person standing at the door.
