Paying The Price

The next morning everyone prepared to leave for work, after breakfast Diana and Pearl left for Z's coffee shop while Nikki headed for D.E.L.

At her arrival Nikki was given her assignment, it was somehow strange why the company wanted her to report for work the next day after the interview. She couldn't comprehend why but she had a strong feeling that Leon had something to do with it.

Nikki and Leon had met in several occasions, her relationship with him was familiar with hers and Ronin, swearing and cursing them both for Diana's melancholy and Wayne's aloof attitude, she was hell to them.

The morning was especially busy for Nikki, receiving calls and welcoming visitors with a smile plastered on her face, she felt her mouth ache.

Her bright blue colored blouse with her navy blue high waisted pants matched with a black wedge which made her look smart and fit for the job. Her red shoulder length hair fell down sweeping her shoulders, her high waist pants showed off her figure. Indeed she was a sight to behold.

Nikki was about to welcome the two well dressed figures, but after recognizing who they were her smile froze.

Fiona dressed in a straight red custom made gown walked beside a familiar face.

Sarah King, daughter of the King's family, top socialist and best friend of Fiona.

These two made life difficult for Diana just because of the Mrs Grand position. Nikki detested both for their haughty, arrogant and authoritative spirit she never actually spared them, now with her current position they would surely create trouble for her.

Whatever it was, Nikki was prepared.

"So it's true that the insignificant lowlife is back and you tagged along. What were they thinking hiring such an awful face as a receptionist?" Sarah was wearing a black straight skirt and a white top with a five inches long heel.

"How did you get this job so quickly, is Wayne blind to help you after his wife's disappearance for four years?" Sarah continued sneering at Nikki disdainfully.

"Shh... be careful don't let them know am related to Mrs Grand or else I'll be treated much more importance than you."

That one statement from Nikki silenced them as they exchanged looks.

"Anyway ladies, do you have an appointment." With a big victory smile Nikki asked.

"Of course we don't have an appointment cause we don't need one." Sarah snapped loud enough for to hear.

"Why do they have someone incompetent as a receptionist." Fiona said as she pulled Sarah towards the elevator.

On lookers were a little suspicious of this scenario. Sarah would never stop to chat with the receptionist, it could be she was displeased with the new receptionist, and her statement fortified their thoughts.

Many saw her as the future Mrs Daniel so they respected her and obeyed her calls and demands. If she was wasn't satisfied with an employee, he/she would be dismissed.

Only a few including Nikki knew for sure that Leon isn't really interested in her but usually complies to her constant nagging. Nikki once called him a woman for not standing on his own will.
