Chapter 24 - Down In Flames

"I'm so s-sorry I- didn't mean t-" Felix began.

"Shut up," Boris growled his golden eyes reflecting pure hate at Felix, "let go of me now."

Felix shivered and let Boris go in fear. He shook as he watched Boris run down the path and scared he ran after him.

Boris ran with all of his might, his feet barely touching the ground as he ran back to his house. 'Mother, Father, Alex… Please no,' Boris cried, his heart throbbing in pain as the empty patches of green slowed to a stop and houses before houses appeared in front of him. Fire, its scent drifted into his nose.

His eyes stung from smoke and his heart dropped when he saw it, the smoke rising from further in front of him. Deep into the houses, it drifted into the sky seeming to call Boris closer and prepare him for the catastrophe he would see. 'Please no,' Boris begged. His fears were confirmed as he saw his house in front of him. Hot red flames danced up the sides of his house, calling to him, teasing him.

"NO! MOTHER! FATHER! ALEX!!" Boris yelled pushing his way through the crowd to get to his house. He launched himself at his house, wanting the flames to engulf him with the same hot misery it drowned his family in. He looked up and down the house spotting a hand banging on the window of the house.

"ALEX!!!!" Boris yelled, without hesitation he ran into the house, pulling the door open and running into the flames. He needed to save them, he needed to help them. If he didn't… there was no couldn't, he HAD to save them. If he couldn't… then he'd just die in the same flames that took their lives.

Planks of wood alit with fire fell from the ceiling, burning everything upon contact. Boris ran through, barely dodging hot cinders that fell to the floor, lighting up the ground they touched. He ran up the stairs, tears falling from his eyes from the stifling smoke, from pain, from fear that he would never see his baby brother again. The red flames didn't scare him at all, but the thought of being haunted by the smiles of his family he would lose would eat him up from inside until there was nothing left.

"ALEX!!" Boris screamed, his voice hoarse as the smoke wrapped its hands around his throat, choking him.

Boris reached the second floor where his brother was, "ALEX!!! PLEASE ANSWER ME!!!!" Boris yelled in agony, "PLEASE PLEASE don't leave me."

He stood there for a minute and waited for a reply, begging that the flames hadn't buried his only brother. Anxiety seemed to tease him when no reply came back, it seemed to smile at the flames as they pulled him further into despair. Both tearing apart his mental state, urging him to jump into the flames himself and just forfeit all of his chances, to forget all the memories built into the walls they tore down, to jump into an ocean of agony, pain, and regret and slowly drown in it. Anxiety, anger, pain, frustration, and flames. They were a match made for the purpose of destroying.

"Borie," A tiny voice replied from the corner of the room, "Borie, please save me."

"ALEX," Boris bellowed, running towards the sound. There in the corner, next to a bed was his baby brother, Alex.
