Chapter 74 - Harboring Anger

"You really think I just walk around harboring anger and hate that blocks my eyes? I know why you didn't tell us and for that, I am able to forgive you," Mrs. Milti sighed, "You really think I wouldn't question your status if they put a young man such as yourself with no war experience on the battlefield? That only happens when the person has an influential hold in the kingdom such as yourself, your highness."

"Haha…" Dominic chuckled with his hoarse voice, "should have seen that coming."

"Hmm," Memoline agreed, "I must admit though, it was a nice move on your part. I may have been underestimating you based on my standards of young men from my village, and you proved me wrong."

"T-thank you?" Dominic replied, his voice holding a bit of hesitancy.

"But still.. That just proved we need to be on our toes around you," Memoline muttered, thinking as she spoke, "Your thought process surprised me one, how you protected the kingdom by hiding your identity, but not anymore, especially since I'll be working with you from now on."

"T-then I guess I must be under tight surveillance now?" Dominic laughed.

"Not really," Memoline shrugged, running her finger on the last surface before the bed that held Dominic, "I'm just keeping a close eye on you and your words. As I said, I realized I underestimated you and need to change my biased views on your kingdom's rulers, so I have no problem with you for now… can't say the same about the other people in this camp and Desilva."

"H-huh?" Dominic asked softly.

Memoline looked down at Dominic and took a seat on the chair at the foot of the bed, "it seems like in the short time we've known you, Desilva and the rest had already built an immense trust for you and your people."

"Oh…" Dominic sighed.

"They've grown used to your culture to some extent and grown familiar with your people.. Some to an absurd extent. When Desilva found out that you weren't just a general and in fact a royal, I'm guessing her trust broke at that moment," Memoline glanced at Dominic, "She's rough around the edges but naive so it's easy for her to trust and also easy for her to hate people, just like the others in our village. Don't be surprised if you get some harsh gazes from now on."

'That's if I can even see them in a few days,' Dominic thought to himself.

"I don't expect them to start plotting on killing you or behaving harshly towards other from your kingdom, but do remember that they have a bit of doubt in you now and will be less likely to go along with whatever you plan now," Memoline warned.

"Ok," Dominic nodded slightly, his head refusing to move much.

"Nevertheless, I came to check if you were doing ok," Memoline sighed, "your attack yesterday was quite severe and I could hear your screams from 3 tents away from yours."

"Hm.. that bad huh?" Dominic muttered, asking Memoline just as much as he was asking himself. He had no recollection of most of his attack. The only part that he remembered was a few seconds into the surging waves of pain, the next was just fuzzes of memories in his mind. He couldn't even remember who came to help him since the majority of the voices he heard were extremely distorted by the ringing in his head.

Memoline glanced at him again before looking away and heading towards the door, "anyways, I'm done with what I came here to do and will be taking my leave now. One piece of advice though, I may have more trust in you than others but Desilva is the energy of our village and the one we trust and love the most. If you want to find a way to earn most of the trust of the people of our village, Desilva would be the best way to go. Sorry for the disturbance, I shall leave now."

"N-no problem," Dominic grunted trying to wave at her. It was a futile attempt.

"Take your time, your highness," Memoline smiled, noticing his attempt.

"D-don't be so formal, please call me Dominic," Dominic insisted.

"Ok," Memoline agreed, "bye now. I will be calling Axel in."

"Sure,"

A few minutes passed and Dominic listened to the muffled chattering outside the tent before he heard the light footsteps of someone stepping into the room.

"You really left me here alone for the taking," Dominic scolded.

"I was right outside and there's no other escape in this tent, plus the walls of the tent is really hard to slice through with a knife," Axel retorted, heading straight for his medicine.

"And if she had had a knife strong enough to cut through, what would happen then?" Dominic pressed.

"I told guards to secure all sides of the tent while his highness and Mrs. Milti were talking," Axel shrugged, "plus I already searched her before leaving the room."

Dominic hesitated, weighing the effect of continuing to scold Axel or just giving in. He decided a pointless argument that would have no chance of making it through Axel's stubborn mind or his, would only be a waste of time.

"W-were you listening to our c-conversation?" Dominic asked.

"Of course, how did his highness know?" Axel grinned.

Dominic resisted the urge to smile, knowing it would only put him in more pain, "j-just a guess... I figured that if you were going to leave us alone, y-you would at least listen to the conversation."

"His highness is correct," Axel nodded, mixing the medicine.

"What are your thoughts on this? How should I approach it?" Dominic asked.

"What?" Axel exclaimed turning to Dominic in surprise.

"You heard me. W-what should I do?" Dominic repeated.

"I do not believe I have enough power to be involved in your affairs, your highness," Axel refused.

"I'll make you my personal physician,"

"That is a very rash decision, your highness, I am not worthy of that position,"

"Are you q-questioning my words?"
