Charmander never wanted to train seriously. So he had taken a piece of advice from elder Adam's book. Charmander loved eating roasted meat, most specifically, Spearow's meat. 1 kg of Spearow's meat cost 500 Pokedollars. So Axel made a deal with the Shopkeeper that he would buy 100kg of roasted meat over the course of 3 months. He didn't buy all the meat at once at it would be a waste. So the shopkeeper lowered the price to 400 Pokedollars and asked for half of the payment upfront. Axel paid 20000 Pokedollars and sealed the deal.

1kg = 2 roasted piece. Axel made a deal with Charmander that it would get 2 roasted pieces in the morning and 4 roasted pieces in the afternoon if it does training seriously. The glutton happily agreed.

There was a simple plan that he decided for the training. He had decided to train 4 of the 6 stats of his Pokemon namely, Health, Attack, Defense, and Agility.

For Agility

1. Charmander would repeatedly throw multiple stones towards Nidoran and Shedinja and they would try to doze it. Shedinja would not be using the move 'agility' and would purely dodge the attack. However, Axel told Shedinja to use harden 6 times cause he feared for its health.

For Defense

1. For Charmander, Nidoran will be the attack with 'tackle' and it would defend

2. For Nidoran, Charmander and Shedinja would use 'scratch' and 'tackle' at the same time. This was done because of Nidoran's higher stats.

3. And Shedinja would again use 'harden' 6 times, use 'tackle' and ram itself on the wall. Axel didn't have any other way to improve its defense. Nidoran's tackle is immune to it and so was Charmander's 'scratch'. Of course, Charmander's 'ember' was supper effective against it but it was a special move and it could only increase its sp. Defense.

For Attack.

1. Nidoran would repeatedly use 'horn attack'

2. Shedinja would use 'tackle' after using 'harden'

3. And Charmander would use 'dragon rush'. Axel took time to make this decision for Charmander. 'Dragon rush' takes a lot of its stamina and it would be tired soon. But Axel went for it. Why? Cause 'dragon rush' in its peak mastery is a terrifying move.

For health.

He also made a training plan for himself. There were 3 stages of training for him to complete.

Stage 1: Running for 2 hours.

Stage 2: Sit-ups, squats and crunches for 2 hours.

Stage 3: Sword practice for the rest of the time.

Yes, sword practice! He wanted to practice sword, not because he dreamed to become a swordmaster one day. But sword training stressed all the muscles of his body. In his previous world, he had read various light novels about how a protagonist practices sword day and night to become the supreme leader. He always wanted to practice it but he thought that people would call him crazy.

So he bought a wooden sword and a practice dummy.

The first was defense training. Shedinja used 'harden' 6 times and it rammed itself against the wall. The impact was huge on Shedinja. It could only stand after 30 seconds. This was not its usual style of training. 'Do I really have to do this? I wanted to specialize in attack and speed. Axel also knows about this. Then why?' thought Shedinja. It was starting to doubt this training method.

Seeing such a look on his Pokemon's face Axel said "Marcus, success isn't always about greatness or intellect. It is about consistency. Only consistent hard work leads to success. How could you be my knight when you can't even defend?"

Hearing this Shedinja suddenly remembered,

Shedinja's POV

Axel and his Pokemons were discussing a battle plan to defeat Mankey's group. "… and Mankey could have dark-type moves which would be highly dangerous for Marcus. So we should all be near him. If any dark type move is used, any of you who are near would take the blow for Marcus. We should also plan....." Hearing this Marcus was disappointed. 'After so much hard work, I still have to be protected. Sigh..'

And Axel ended the discussion by saying, "Ok, that would be our plan. And Marcus, stay behind I have to tell you something" hearing this I stayed while others disbursed. I looked up into Axel's eyes "I know you didn't like it when I told that you should be protected." "Yes, I am too weak" I said. "But remember, it is only for now. I would expect you to train harder so that you could not only protect me, but also our little family. Marcus, you would be my 'Knight'"

Hearing this, I felt something. Something entirely different. I felt a sense of duty and responsibility. And it was not a bad feeling. "I will do my best, Axel. I will protect every one of you" I said with a determined voice.

Flashback End

'Yes! How could I protect them if I cannot even defend them? I will have to train hard' thought Marcus and started to train with new vigor.

Nidoran was using 'horn attack' at regular intervals and Charmander was doing the same with 'dragon rush'. The greed of delicious meat was making it do the training seriously. 'Meat! Meat! Meat!…' it screamed in its mind when it didn't want to practice.

It was 2 p.m. when they started to practice. They would practice these 3 exercises, 2 hours each, and would take 10 minutes break after each completion.

The second was agility training. But he soon noticed a serious problem with this training method. Charmander's throw was not fast that could stress out Nidoran. It was still ok for Shedinja as its agility was only E++ but he knew the speed was slow for it too.

After seeing that the training was not effective he told his Pokemons to continue 'defense practice' including Charmander. He also had to train himself.

The 'attack practice' went smoothly.

By this time, Axel was holding a wooden sword ready to hack the dummy. He was too excited about this training. He straightened his posture, used his footwork and hacked the dummy in its shoulder with the sword. He thought he would do 500 downward strikes today. He had no knowledge of sword practice. He just wanted to increase his body stats.

But 500 downward swings seem to be too much for him at this level. When he did 50 swings, he started to feel his hand heavy. When he did 100 swings, his hand started to burn. 200 swings, his entire body hurt. 300 swings, he was already panting on the ground.

Swing sword seemed harder than he imagined.
