Primordial Dimensions

Chapter 346: Warfare

Shane didn't think that 10 opponents with a mana purity of 93% would be an issue, but Ilya seemed to be worried.

However, this didn't come from the fact that there were 10 commanders; her fear stemmed from the sheer number of soldiers the Ara army consisted of!

There were a total of 250,000 Aras with more or less the same average strength that was at the Expert stage.

This was not a problem for the group of two with two tamed beasts, but the others would be having problems facing the huge army.

Fortunately, Shane had already distributed the mana-sphere crossbows and everyone was practicing hard to increase their accuracy.

Because of that, Shane was confident that the biggest chunk of the Ara race's army would be picked out with mana bolts alone.

In the end, he was not worried at all as long as Yan decided to stay behind!

The bishop of the Ara race was the only individual Shane wanted to avoid at all costs!

His strength was not within the standards of an ordinary being at the Expert stage and it was likely for him to have reached the Master stage.

Yan was actually the worst final opponent Shane could imagine for the dungeon's third task.

Nevertheless, while they had been halfway through solving the task, the Ara race's army had already appeared around Deux's borders.

The lesser demons were already hiding inside their houses, while the residents of the surrounding villages had received some temporary shelter to stay until the warfare would be over.

With his [Eagle Eyes] skill activated, Shane could already see the outlines of Ara army's first row.

From his point of view, they looked like pushovers. Their equipment looked more like props, and he was sure that he could break the weapon they were wielding with his bare hands.

Other than that, the mana fluctuations Shane perceived as they continued to march forward were anything but distinct.

If he hadn't known that they were about to sincerely attack Deux, Shane would have thought that he was witnessing a simple parade of old historians trying to cosplay as ancient warriors...with the same clothes and weapons they had used a millennia ago.

Shaking his head, he tried to make sense of what exactly the fluare tower dungeon wanted from them.

What would a perfect score look like? How to attain it?

However, in the end, Shane knew that it was already too late for him to think about that. They had already failed miserably the day they had appeared on the third floor.

As such, he could only do his best, which would be to massacre the entire army of the Ara race.

Assuming that all the 250,000 Aras had the basic combat capabilities, once defeated they wouldn't be a threat anymore.

At least that was what Shane hoped for, and after he recalled that they were only on the third floor of a dungeon, he believed that this battle would be the deciding factor in letting them pass through to the next floor.

It was highly likely that killing Yan would increase their score by a large margin, but trying to defeat him without any help was something they were unable to do.

Not even an assassination should work properly because Yan was just too strong.

With that in mind, Shane and Princess Ilya had discussed that paying attention to the demons' defensive capabilities, food shortage, and other issues was more important than the Ara race's bishop.

If their defenses were indestructible, nobody would be able to get their blood, to begin with.

There were always multiple paths one could choose to defend themselves against others.

In order to 'protect' the Karn kingdom, one could either choose destruction and eradicate every single foe, and conquer the surrounding kingdoms, or build a perfect defense.

With the rebuilt city walls and almost 10,000 mana-sphere crossbows, the process to the latter could be said to have been initiated already and this was exactly what they had wanted to achieve.

Instead of showing the demons how they could defeat others, and thereby igniting their greed to conquer everyone, it was better to show them that it was possible to defend themselves with long-range weapons!

Knowing that producing bows and crossbows were deemed as forbidden and restricted, it was obvious what kind of divine weapon the mana-sphere crossbows were.

As such, when the Ara race's army reached within the range of the crossbows, thousands of magic bolts rained down on the oblivious Aras, whose eyes were bloodshot due to the lack of demon blood!

Shane was proud of his Astral Artisans that had made everything possible. Right from rebuilding the city wall that was broad enough to let the bulky humans walk next to each other on it, to the mana-sphere crossbows they had stored inside the warehouse of the Hidden Paradise, every single thing took them one step closer to victory.

Thanks to the Astral Artisans, he could witness the glorious sight of thousands of magic bolts flying towards the Ara army.

Shane saw everything from the sidelines because he, Ilya, and his tamed beasts were currently not on the city wall, but at a suitable distance from both the demon and Ara race!

While the bow of destruction was tightly grasped by Shane, a large pot filled with [Tier-2 (Uncommon)] arrows and another pot filled with [Tier-2 (Trash)] arrows were placed on either side of him.

He wanted to use the former to kill the commanders and the latter for the stronger Aras at the Expert stage.

With his bow's [Double impact], he wouldn't face much of an issue because both Ilya and Umbra would target the same commander as he did.

They had already decided to take out one commander after another and not to distribute their opponents amongst each other.

Owing to their combined attacks aimed at a single commander, it would be difficult for the commanding Ara to survive.

Despite their distance is more than a kilometer from the first line of attack, Shane and the others were confident.

Meanwhile, Cosmo had already emerged from a spatial portal behind the Ara race that was seemingly unaware that they were about to be attacked from the back and the side.

The Ara race didn't have an elemental affinity, but that didn't mean the devil seed wouldn't award them one if nurtured properly.

As such, they had to be a little bit careful.

Nevertheless, the moment the magic bolts had been shot out from the mana-sphere crossbows, Shane, Ilya, and Umbra initiated their first attack.

At the same time, Cosmo advanced towards the weak Ara soldiers that were in the rear, where he would attack them mercilessly.

With the [Eagle Eye] skillfully utilized, Shane was able to see everything clearly and his archery proficiency that had increased during the last few months was visible to the naked eye.

He shot three of the stronger ranked arrows towards the first commander they had been targeting. The arrows hit the bull's eye as they pierced through the less protected neck region of the commander's body that would normally allow the Ara commander to turn his head without any issues.

Now, however, leaving his neck uncovered turned out to be his doom, and he collapsed on the ground with a sickening thud. He choked and gagged in a desperate attempt to breathe before his body went limp and motionless.

Only a moment later, four highly compressed darkness spears crashed into the ground at which the already dead Ara commander had been standing.
