Queen Of Adis

Chapter 117 - Let's play chess

Note: The interaction of the past and present Adis is a bit confusing even for me as the author, hahaha XD. So I will put another marker on the name to make it easier for everyone.

Present = *Adis; Past = [Adis]

I hope this will clear any confusion for this chapter. I'm open to any suggestions, though. ^_^

"What made you so desperate to even cross time and space... my other self?"

When *Adis heard his past self asked with certainty, he chuckled and shook his head. He already knew this would happen as he purposely didn't conceal his aura. After all, nothing could be hidden from the demon king, whether it's the past or the present one.

*He suddenly remembered what Elior told him before he slept for their journey. "Your Majesty, your demonic aura is distinct and the malevolence could pass through space and time. Moreover, you know that your senses are highly s.e.n.s.i.t.i.v.e. So you better mask your presence when you are around your other self unless you want to be found out by him."

But there's a reason why he wanted to be felt, and only his past self could accomplish that. He moved the Queen chess piece forward, right next to his opponent's knight.

[Adis] immediately stood up from his chair and sat on the couch in front of the crystal chessboard. He stiffened his back and scowled as he understood the message. He instantly bombarded him with questions.

"You're here because of *Haru? Why? What happened to her? Where is she?"

He's afraid that if something bad happened to the other *Haru, then it might affect the Haru of his time. And that's something he couldn't afford to happen.

*Adis moved the King and kicked the Knight off the board. It rolled and fell off the table, creating a small shattering sound as it touched the ground.

"She's with you?" [Adis] breathed out and his eyes grew wide in disbelief.

[He] squinted his eyes and snapped his head left and right as though he would be able to see the other Haru if he just looked around carefully.

To pull the man's attention back to him, *Adis strike a pawn with a bit of force, but enough for it to break as it hit the wall.

"Fine. I am paying attention now." [Adis] looked back at the board, feeling relieved that everything was okay... for now. Then his forehead creased as he just noticed something. He gritted through his teeth, "Bloody hell, you knew that each crystal chess piece is worth a fortune, you madman!"

Another pawn was mercilessly thrown to the floor, clearly conveying that the ghost in front didn't give a damn.

[Adis] could only clicked his tongue in exasperation. "Ugh, stop breaking those f.u.c.k.i.n.g crystals. My Haru will kill me if she finds out that I broke a fortune worth of item. You know how stingy she is."

He finally heaved a sigh of relief when the ghost stopped breaking the pieces. He suddenly felt traumatized by those shattering sounds. He had to find a way to hide the shards and order Fang to replace the broken pieces with new ones so Haru wouldn't notice a thing.

He saw the Queen was tapped on the crystal board twice. He scoffed, "Yeah, after nonchalantly breaking those pieces, now you dare say not to hide it from my woman? It's not your head that she'll be biting off, dammit! Oh, and I'll make sure to pay you back for this mess, asshole."

*Adis tapped the King on the board this time, annoyed of his past self's endless yapping. "Oh, come on, I don't have the time in the world!"

[Adis] nodded as if he heard what the other just said and proceeded on the problem at hand. "Okay, before we continue, let's set a rule here. This one-way conversation is making me crazy."

He pointed at the pieces on his side and said, "These here means the people in my time..." then he pointed to the other side of the board, "Your pieces means your time. Can we do that?"

When the King piece on the other side was tapped, he took it as a 'yes' and fired his questions. "What time are you from? Who else knows that you and *Haru are here? You realize that this is a f.u.c.k.i.n.g dangerous act, right?"

Despite all the windows in the study being closed, a gust of wind blew and turned the pages of the calendar on his desk towards the future dates until the pages ran out and it fell to the floor.

"You're from the future?" [Adis] exclaimed in a daze.

[He] slowly turned back to his 'companion' and saw that he made another move. But this time, he took the Bishop piece from the past and moved it forward.

[He] was silent for a moment as he pondered. "So the Elior of my time knew that you are here? Well, as long as you are being guided by a reliable seer, then I guess that's fine. Is he also the one who taught you how to reach out to me?"

The bishop on the other side was then moved and stood beside the Queen.

"Damn, so both Eliors are helping you now. Something really big must be happening in the future, huh?"

"..."

"So what help do you need from me?"

*Adis sighed heavily. Moving things in this period was taking too much of his energy. He wished he could use a pen and paper instead, but Elior told him that since he was not a seer, his voice can't be heard and he could only move things that were blessed by the church. Fortunately, Haru loved to buy trinkets made by the clergy such as calendars and figurines and decorated their villa with it.

In the past, when he just recently bought the crystal chess set from Ulysses, Elior suddenly appeared and blessed it himself but he didn't explain the reason. Now he knew why. Elior must have seen in his vision the significance of this item; hence, he guided them to start their journey at the exact time where [Adis & Haru] were about to visit the Spring Villa.

It was also one of the reasons why he persuaded Haru to stay... well, cough, just second to the live-action, of course.

[Adis'] scowl deepened, "What the hell is that suppose to mean? A knight? The only beings I let to be around my Haru are the Ignis brothers and Ilyas' wives. I don't understand. Are you talking about the Knighthood ceremony that will be held in three days?"

When the King piece was tapped twice, he knew he got it right. His eyes lit up as he stood and walked towards his desk. "Wait, I remember Fang gave me the list of the men that will be ordained as royal knights. I am planning to deploy some towards the Dark Palace after the ceremony." He flipped and tossed some doc.u.ments until he found what he was looking for. "Oh, here it is. Wait, are you asking me to read the names? This is quite a lot, though."

"..."

"No? Then what? My Haru is actually excited for this ceremony as she knew some of the candidates. Hmm, what are their names again?" He scanned the names to check if he could remember it, "Ah here, two centaurs named Krabez and Zolteos and a human named Pier--"

CRASH!

He was unable to finish his statement when another chess piece was smashed; the Knight of the past. Then a sharp shard was suddenly thrown at him, but he just lifted the paper on his hand to thwart the attack without even looking at it. When he looked back on the list, the shard was stuck on a specific name.

"Oh, so we have a target now, huh?" He read the name slowly, "...Pier Willows."
