Reason for Marriage

Chapter 8 - A unique night

Chapter 8

A unique night

Sang-yeon’s face also became a little embarrassed because he thought he had made a mistake.

“Don’t misunderstand, listen. It’s not because I have other intentions. I don’t think there’s any way I can tell Minju-ssi if the police call me.”

Minju thought that it was a pretty cute part of an excuse for a grown-up man.

“Oh, is that so. But I don’t want to be a nuisance.”

While responding to Sang-yeon’s words, Minju was as polite as she could because she thought it would seem shameless if she accepted the favor too quickly.

Sang-yeon opened the garage without a word, as if he had looked into Minju’s heart.

Only the entry was just different, but everything seemed new.

Although it was definitely the same house, Minju kept looking around like it was her first time in Sang-yeon’s mansion. She almost tripped over the two-stage stairs that came down to the living room.

Yes, I came here as a tuner before, but now I’m an officially invited guest. So don’t be too scared. Don’t be scared, Choi Minju!

“You haven’t had dinner, have you? I heard earlier that there was a storm on the ship.”

“Oh… You heard it all.”

“You’re not the only one with good hearing. I have pretty sensitive ears, too.”

Sang-yeon made a light joke to ease Minju’s tension. Minju was grateful for such a performance. It means he had gotten that close and felt comfortable with her.

“Take off your clothes.”

“…”

What’s wrong with this guy? He tells me not to misunderstand, but he wants me to take my clothes off? Is he sane?

“Your coat. Are you going to keep wearing it? My house is warm.”

Sang-yeon was joking again. Minju’s face reddened at the thought that she had been caught imagining a lewd scene even though it was only for a short time.

Sang-yeon approached behind Minju, who hurriedly took off her coat, and walked with it like a kind English gentleman.

His manners, which were inconsequential, made Minju a lady at once. Sang-yeon was a man who knew how to treat women.

“Sit down on the sofa. I’ll see if there’s anything to eat.”

Minju sat on the sofa as Sang-yeon told her to and looked at the front of the living room, which was made of glass.

Sitting there like that, everything she went through today felt like a lie.

Meanwhile, the kitchen began to smell delicious, and Sang-yeon quickly made jjajang ramen and brought it to the living room.

It had such a splendid visual that she could not believe it was instant noodles. Various ingredients, sliced cucumbers with garnish, and perfectly half-boiled eggs.

Minju paused for a long time after seeing the jjajang ramen that Sang-yeon had made for her.

“Why are you not eating? Try it before it gets cold. I didn’t put poison in it.”

“Thank you for the food.”

For ten minutes from then, Minju ate the jjajang ramen without saying a word.

Even if it had poison, it tasted so great that she was willing to eat it.

The fat pork and well-fried onions had a spicy taste, the noodles were chewy, the egg yolk popped and the savory smell of sesame oil was added to make a perfect match.

She had not tried it, but it was clearly not comparable to the jajangmyeon that police officers ate earlier.

Sang-yeon smiled as if he were pleased to see the bowl empty as if she had washed it.

One or two small snowflakes were falling out of the window.

Minju habitually tapped her ears because the harsh sound of the wind whistled intermittently around the house.

Sang-yeon did not miss the scene while preparing tea in the kitchen.

“It’s snowing a lot this year. It must be dangerous in winter because the slope is steep in this neighborhood.”

“It’s best not to go out of the house.”

Sang-yeon said, handing the perfect jasmine tea to Minju.

“Thank you for the drink. And… for letting me stay overnight.”

“I don’t mind if it’s not only overnight.”

“…What?”

“Well, it’s going to freeze and the road will be icy tomorrow morning. As you can see, there are a lot of rooms in the house…”

Sang-yeon looked out the window, blurring the end of his words.

What the hell does that mean? Why are you so kind to me today?

Minju could not bear to ask, but she stared at Sang-yeon’s lips like a child who desperately wanted an answer.

Sang-yeon turned his head toward Minju as if he were responding to her persistent gaze. Then, he wiped off the jjajang sauce on Minju’s mouth like a father.

What was this man thinking, inviting a woman to his house, serving her homemade food, and touching her lips?

He had said not to misunderstand, but if he suddenly crossed the line and expressed intimacy, how should a woman interpret this signal?

Minju wanted to believe that all of these were the gestures of seductions by Sang-yeon, who liked her. She wanted to misunderstand.

If even one thing was true, wasn’t it stupid to stay still like this? It was time to check Sang-yeon’s mind.

At that moment, Minju kissed Sang-yeon… without even closing her eyes.

“I don’t think I’ll ever have another chance like this.”

It was a bold and shy confession.

Sang-yeon responded with a very light kiss, as if to calm down Minju’s unexpected provocation.

But it was a mistake.

Minju was not a cold, well-behaved, coy woman.

Was it because of her desire to prove more clearly that she was not wrong? Minju was more active than in the beginning and continued to kiss Sang-yeon by pressing her lips. As if she had no intention of letting go of Sang-yeon’s lips.

Now Sang-yeon could no longer control his instincts.

Like lovers who had been in love for a very long time, their kisses were perfectly harmonic without any misalignment.

Kisses soon became violent in rhythm and they finally devoured each other, licking and biting each other like starving predators.

Sometimes it was soft and sometimes it was rough and painful. Whatever it was, they were so intense that they tried to leave traces that would never be erased from each other. Now it did not matter who seduced who first.

Nevertheless, Minju was curious. Because she was old enough to know that behavior did not always explain emotions.

“Did you feel sorry for me? Is that why you’re so nice to me?”

Minju’s eyes showed her eagerness to know. Please tell me it’s not a petty feeling of pity…

Sang-yeon put Minju’s palm on his heart and said.

“Does this feel like sympathy now?”

His pulse was definitely beating fast.

Yes, this is enough. Park Sang-yeon, he’s in front of me right now. He wants me.

Nevertheless, Minju was anxious. She did not want to be one of the countless women who passed through the show. She expected something special between the two beyond the act.

Sang-yeon, who knew his answer did not satisfy her completely, began to increase the pace.

“Did you want to… with me? Yes? Since when? Answer me.”

Minju was breathing hard and did not stop asking questions.

Minju’s eyes glistened transparently in the moonlight as she kept looking at him. He covered her eyes too clear with his palm and buried his face deep in the back of her neck, muttering for some time unknown words.

It was like spell or drunkenness, like a foreign language, and in a way, it sounded like a child’s sobbing.

Minju could not understand his words exactly, but strangely she could.

The blizzard outside the window grew as much as the increasingly rough breathing of the two.

Cool and beautiful gestures continued throughout the night, like a wide nude painting with a white and snowy garden as a background, seen through the living room window.

* * *

There was only darkness. She opened her eyes, but she could not see anything because it was pitch black everywhere.

When her limp muscles were not listening to her, Minju thought she was dead.

At the end of a roller coaster-like day, she eventually died somewhere. She laughed because she thought it was a perfect ending for her.

Then, a moment later, she felt something creeping slowly on her body. She felt her body stiffening as she focused all her attention on the touch of her skin.

However, on the other hand, if her senses were alive like this, she might not be dead yet, so she sought the Lord. This was because she remembered hearing that memorizing the Apostle’s creed would be effective when paralyzed in sleep.

“I have faith in God the Father almighty, who has made heaven and earth, and I have faith in his only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, suffered by Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. On the third day he rose from the dead and ascended into heaven…”

Meow She could hear a cat crying. Minju stopped praying and focused on the sound.

“Jerry?”

Jerry, the cat, tapped Minju’s body lying on the floor like a corpse, to see if she was alive or not.

When there was no movement, he approached her face and lifted up the blindfold that was covering Minju’s eyes.

In an instant, an amount of light she could not handle poured into her view that had been obscured. Minju thought she must have died and come to heaven or been reborn.

Both were not entirely wrong.

Because this was Park Sang-yeon’s bedroom and Minju was laying on his bed where the sunlight came through the window, showing she had overslept long.

A cell phone rang to wake up the lazy lady.

Minju came to her senses and looked at the phone on the bedside table. On the screen, the phrase ‘Pick up the phone, Minju’ was displayed.

Minju answered the phone in a daze, not knowing what was going on.

“…Hello?”

“Are you up?”

It was a friendly wake-up call from Sang-yeon.

Jerry, who was second to none, suddenly dug into Minju’s arms and rubbed his body. She’s mine! It was a sign of jealousy.

“But what happened? Why is Jerry here?”

“I went to your house to see the owner in the morning, and he was whining about being hungry all night, so I rescued him through the window. Is his name Jerry? The lady didn’t like him very much.”

Jerry, who thought he was talking about him, jumped out of bed to the floor and escaped.

“I’ve solved the rent problem. Oh, and this phone is Minju-ssi’s new phone.”

Oh, no! I didn’t even drink but said all sorts of things yesterday. In fact, I did something worse than getting drunk. Minju’s got hot because she remembered last night.

“Hello? Minju-ssi, are you listening?”

Minju slowly rose up and sat on the bed.

She saw the white world covered with snow that fell all night. Today was completely different from yesterday.

She felt like the world surrounding her was completely new. The reflected sunlight dazzled Minju and she gently closed her eyes.
