This is a cobalt-based alloy STL6 with a thickness of at least 3.5 mm (before processing) and a width of about 25-50 mm (according to the size of the gate) on the sealing surface of the gate.
Why two layers of surfacing?
Wouldn't it be faster to surfacing a layer directly?
A layer of surfacing can be directly welded, and the thickness can reach 3.5 mm, but the alloy composition of the surfacing layer cannot meet the requirements.
The main chemical composition of STL6 is about 29% Cr chromium, 4.5% W tungsten, 3% Ni nickel, 1.5% Mo nickel, no more than 5% Fe iron, and the rest is a large amount of Co cobalt and other elements.
The chemical composition has a qualified range, and the most difficult to control is Fe iron.
If the gate material is carbon steel WCB (mainly iron), it is necessary to overlay STL6 on its sealing surface.
That is, surfacing structure = gate substrate WCB + cobalt-based alloy STL6 (Stellite No.6)
Because the temperature during welding reaches thousands of degrees Celsius, the iron element in carbon steel quickly penetrates into the surfacing layer (just like putting salt in boiling water, the salt molecules melt and spread quickly at high temperature. Compare iron to salt, and surfacing layer to water, too much iron, unqualified), the iron element of surfacing layer will exceed the standard, and it will not meet the requirements.
If the iron element exceeds the standard, the corrosion resistance of the surfacing layer will decrease, the medium (liquid or gas) in the valve body channel will be corrosive, and the gate plate will be in contact with the valve body for a long time. After machining the second layer, the desired final thickness is about 3mm (slightly ground depending on the fit, but not less than 2.5mm).
For argon arc welding of STL6 surfacing by the traditional method, it is easy to weld one layer of weld at one time, but it is the most difficult to weld thin.
Moreover, it is even more difficult to control the alloying element composition in the surfacing layer.
The specific process is relatively complicated, and even if it is a skilled welder, if no one gives pointers, it is difficult to understand the meaning.
Muyang wants to do automation equipment. He will adjust the process. As long as the workpiece is placed, the welding can be started with one key, and the welder does not need to understand the specific process.
It can control the thickness very well. The thickness of the first layer is controlled at 1.5 mm, and the thickness of the second layer is controlled at 2 mm. The error will not be about 0.1 mm. Because the surface is uniform, it is enough to leave about 0.5 mm of machining allowance.
Compared with traditional craftsmanship, the advantages are very different.
