Ling Mao was lying on the floor of a pavilion that was surrounded by moon lake, the night breeze felt so comfortable on her black fur. Ling Mao was accepted--even though still on probation, by the four beasts. She didn't mind what status she got as long as she could be by her lady side. It was because Ling Mao understood her status as a person from demon realm, of course it couldn't be compared to the four heavenly beasts, the guardians of heaven. What surprised Ling Mao was the fact that the four beasts decided to be by Lady Chang'e's side instead of Heavenly Emperor.

Lying while recalling the past, Ling Mao remembered the time when she first met Lady Chang'e. At that time, she was dying in Sanjiaoxing forest after she was cast aside for being a failure. Among all the witch clan, Ling Mao was mediocre.

A little kitten was lying on the ground, the body was full of wounds. The little kitten had resigned itself to be a meal for magical beasts in that forest, maybe it was better to die than lived a life being scorned and bullied by its clan. Yes... death would be a better salvation..

"Oh my, what a poor being."

A soft voice, cool yet sounded gentle could be heard then a gentle c.a.r.e.s.s followed. The little kitten felt its body slowly became warm, opening its eyes, the little kitten saw an ethereal beauty smiling gently at it. The wound on its body slowly recovering and soon the little kitten's head perked up, it wanted to feel more of the woman's gentle hand.

"Do you have a name, little one?" Asked the woman, still c.a.r.e.s.sing its head.

The little kitten looked down, didn't want to answer because its name had only one meaning.

Seeing the little kitten's reluctance, the woman with ethereal beauty that was out of this world spoke, "Ling Mao.."

The little kitten's ears twitched slightly, its head was lifted and its eyes met the woman's tender gaze. "Your name is Ling Mao, meaning.. 'Clever Cat'"

Clever cat..

No longer 'Defect'..

Tears formed on its eyes, one by one fell to the ground. The little kitten stuck out its tongue, l.i.c.k.i.n.g the woman's hand many times. It accepted the name which was bestowed by her.

"Do you want to break free?" Asked the woman, letting the little kitten licked her hand. "Do you want to break away from your weak self?"

The little kitten nodded and the woman lowered both her hands, spread it slightly. "Then come with me. I will grant you power to create the new you, together.. we shall create more miracles for those who are like you.." The woman smiled brightly.

The woman's smile looked so bright in little kitten's view, just like moonlight, shining so bright in the darkness of night, guiding the lost and the weak, giving them courage to walk on their path. The little kitten used its remaining strength to jump into the woman's arms. Soon it was enveloped within her warm and gentle embrace.

"My name is Chang'e, p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e to meet you.. Mao Mao.."

That was the first meeting of Moon Goddess, Chang'e and her little demon cat of witch clan, Ling Mao. Their meeting became the start of Chang'e's journey of guiding the lost and the weak, giving them the power to break away from their miserable fate and started a new life.

"Hm?" Ling Mao's head perked up as she suddenly felt an epiphany. A bad feeling welled up within her.

"Mao Mao, what are you doing here?" Zhu Que used qinggong and flew to her side.

"I was resting here and suddenly felt an epiphany." Ling Mao answered and her body shone bright. The black cat transformed into a nine years old little girl, with long and black silky hair and bang covered her forehead. She was adorned in light pink ancient clothes.

"You can transformed?" Zhu Que asked, clearly surprised of what she just saw.

Ling Mao nodded and gave the older woman a cute smile, "I have been cultivating in my slumber!" She said cheerfully before jumping toward the lake and floating on top of the water. Biting her two fingers, she pointed it forward and moved it elegantly, forming an enchantment seal. Soon water from where she stood, swirling into a small hurricane, moving upward and forming an oval shape of water mirror. The mirror showed three glimpse of pictures. Blood, medium sized incense burner and purple snake.

During this time, the three beasts arrived in their human forms. Their eyes spotted a child in soft pink ancient clothes, floating with water mirror forming in front of her. Bai Hu was the one who spoke,

"Hey, that little girl.."

"Quiet!" Zhu Que hissed, "Looks like Ling Mao has divination ability."

"What? Divination?" Qing Long asked in disbelief. "..A little demon can have such ability?"

"Well she is a demon who has been blessed by Lady Chang'e's power in the past. Don't you remember what Moon Goddess's power represents of?" Zhu Que asked Qing Long who seemed not wanting to acknowledge that a mere demon could have such rare ability.

"Breaking Free From One's Fate." Xuan Wu was the one who answered the question.

"Yes and Ling Mao is not the lower class demon she used to be." Zhu Que turned her gaze toward the child who was floating on the lake.

Ling Mao's golden eyes glowed slightly, her lips parted, "Purple snake slithers in the darkness, lighting the forbidden incense and mortal blood shall be taken as sacrifice." She said and closed her eyes. The water mirror scattered and fell back to the lake while Ling Mao twirling her body couple of times and landed back on pavilion floor.

"Ling Mao, was that a divination?" Zhu Que asked carefully when Ling Mao opened her eyes.

"Yes, but this is the first time I properly used it. When I was searching for My Lady back then, I only used the feeling and elder Bao Bao's prophecy as the lead." Ling Mao explained and her face turned dark, "Yet this time, I had a bad feeling surging inside then properly used the enchantment seal of witch clan to show me what bad feeling is lurking in dark."

"Purple snake slithers in the darkness, lighting the forbidden incense and mortal blood shall be sacrifice.. Then there will be sacrificing ritual? but where? Who? and why Ling Mao has this divination?" Bai Hu asked, clearly he was not good with riddles like divination.

"The key is mortal, the only mortal that has connection with Ling Mao is Wu twins and My Lady, right?" Xuan Wu said, "Then it might tell Ling Mao that someone out there is trying to take the twins or my lady as sacrifice for the ritual."

"I don't know about the twins but My Lady has few enemies in this life time." Qing Long said, his brow furrowed, clearly worried. "..There is a high chance that the target is My Lady."

Ling Mao looked sad, "I am sorry I can't be more help." After all this was the first time she properly made a divination, she didn't understand how to unravel the mystery behind it.

Zhu Que smiled and patted the little girl's head gently, "It's okay. We are grateful to have you with us. At least we know now that there is danger, lurking behind the shadow and targeting My Lady."

"The problem is.. Purple snake and incense burner.." Xuan Wu said, his expression showed how troubled he felt for unable to deciphering the mysteries.

"Looks like we have to stay alert for the time being. Ling Mao, tomorrow you go along with master. You have Seer ability, so you might pick up a sign or two while staying beside My Lady." Zhu Que ordered, "Use your cat form."

"Yes!" Ling Mao answered solemnly.

Smiling and patting the little girl's head once again, Zhu Que spoke "We are counting on you."

Ling Mao's eyes brightened and nodded once again, looked determined. "I will do my best!"
