I was with Fern when we exited the computer room, and I was really short? Even when compared to a short guy like Fern. He would be fourteen years old at most! Or maybe he's just short. Either one is reasonable. Maybe I should ask him?

...... No, he looks like the kind of person who isn't confident in his height. I wasn't like that when I was a human being. I'm already tall. For example, at least 190. Completely. I don't have 172 or anything, that's too short!

Ha ha.

Hah....

Within a few minutes we arrived at the cafeteria. It was a sizable room with six tables, each of which could accommodate six chairs. Four of the tables were filled with soldiers, who had now taken off their helmets and showed their faces. They're a very diverse group of people, right? Some have long hair, others don't have it at all. Some are handsome, some are thin. Some are as pale as the moon, others as deep as opal. There are no women, though. Then again, most of the armies on the planet also have very few women, so maybe this is intentional? Up in the air.

The two tables, not occupied by soldiers, were reserved for people in uniform. One table was for people in black uniforms, and the other was for officers on board. Now only the lieutenant and commander are there, but I think Fern will soon join them.

Not. I-, I'm not sure where I should sit? ... Maybe I should take a tray and hope Fern doesn't mind if I sit at the officer's table with him. Or I'll try to find Art.

Judging by the smell... That's him, right there.

Blonde, semi-short. For a man who looks healthy, the striking blue eyes are a little too deep in the eye sockets. It's like he's seen too many people.

I didn't have time to think about it, so Fern pulled me to the food counter. We both accepted a tray with some sort of illegible white paste, blue liquid in the cups, and some other food that I could barely describe. It does smell, though... Does it smell good? I think. It doesn't smell like the nothingness of space, so it does smell good from that perspective.

The guy who served me didn't seem to be very happy to do so (probably wondering if I could eat human food), but it didn't seem to matter a lot when I finished eating the food and Fern dragged me back to the officer's table. We both sat down. The word "disgusting" to describe the lieutenant is again an understatement. I wonder what kind of hostility he has towards me? Oh wait, yes, I'm an alien!

Well? Wait, he's looking at Fern with the same disgust. It's kind of-

"You're so unprofessional, second lieutenant. Do you really believe that you can get promoted by eating the same swill as a soldier? The lieutenant asked viciously, spitting out the word "soldier". Well, since I really took the time to look at it, it looks like both the lieutenant and Tiffin were eating some, well, it certainly wasn't mushy stuff. More like they're drinking a pair – what? Smoothies? There was some kind of strangely colored semi-liquid in the cup. I don't know what it is, but it really doesn't look good.

Fern's face quickly turned red. "I'm sorry for ——,, sir. The last time I followed your excellent example, my body reacted quite... Undesirable. The

lieutenant sneered, but did not make any further comments. Probably because he was sitting right next to him.

Oh, our eyes met! Hi Tiffin!

Oh? Did he just shrug his shoulders? I guess he didn't think the lieutenants were acting so friendly either. Well, I guess I'd better start eating. This may seem like a polite thing to do, especially since no one is talking or doing anything.

I insert the fork into the white paste and bring it to my mouth, making sure not to bite off the fork. God Mom...!!

W-what!

It's – hehe, that's great! Gosh, that's not bad for a food that looks like crushed maggots and pulp! I can't describe the taste at all, the consistency is a bit like thick orange juice pulp, but - but! That's great!

I scooped a few more mouthfuls into my stomach. Good. Good. Yes. Right there. Bugs and stones are simply not comparable! Contrast the pain and pain.

Within seconds, I had eaten all the ginkgo pulp. Sure, I didn't feel a little full, but the recognition did make me realize that there were actually other foods on my tray.

I shoved what looked like a long, curly bean into my mouth. Oh. Belch. Is that. It's also good. It's a little sweet, but has a strange umami flavor that makes it taste almost meaty? I don't know how a vegetable can taste like that, but it's probably because it's a space bean. Kind. I don't know how to compare it to the pulp because the consistency is stronger etc, but the taste is a bit more spread and uncertain. Very good, but could be better.

I turned to the next unknown food. 8/10。 Another food. 10/10。 And then there's more. 9/10。

If this were normal food for a normal step on a military space station, I guess really good space food might make me faint or something. Virgin!

Now wash it off with some blue milk or something here –

the fucking

mug falls out of my hand and spills onto my empty tray with a real racket, grabbing the attention of almost everyone in the room.

My brain went blank. I know I'm not making a sound, but I'm screaming inside. I'm pretty sure my whole tongue melted. What's that, exactly? M-, my teeth are too-, I

touch the inside of my mouth. Yes. Half of my teeth have dissolved, leaving stumps or exposed nerves. Damn it. yes, I won't—I'm not going to touch those things anymore. Liquids don't work for me, right?

"Mott?" Tiffin asked across the table, a worried look on his face. "Are you alright?"

"Ea, ah yashk huht meh on he melk," I said with my tongue and teeth. That didn't seem to ease his worries in the slightest. Maybe he can see half of my mouth gone? Hopefully it's only noticeable on the inside. Judging by his furrowed brow, though, I'm pretty sure he can see that. Oh God. Wine with coffee!

"Ensign, can you go get a cleaning robot?" Tiffin asked Fern if he had been staring at me for a moment.

"Huh? Uh, yes! Of course, sir! Fern replied, stepping away from the table.

At least that milk-sour thing didn't get on any clothes or anything.

Well. Remember: stay away from liquids. That's 1/10 of the milk at most.
