Reborn as the Hero's Daughter

Chapter 389: Rank-Up Exam

After some time, Cloud and Finia also woke up. Once we were all gathered, Gadius brought us our food. He was renting the rooms to us quite cheaply and it even included meals too.

“So, Michelle, what’s with your clothes?”

“Well, I was doing a morning check for my bow, you see.”

According to her, when she was inspecting the condition of her bow and pulled it, the bowstring had hit her abundant chest.

Normally she wore a breastplate so she was protected even if the string hit it, but this time she hadn’t worn it since she had just woken up.

“You should keep it in mind to put it on from now on. It would be bad if you get injured.”

“Exactly. The chest is an important part that is necessary for child-raising too.”

I said with an exasperated voice, and Finia seemed to be of the same opinion.

But Michelle objected back.

“But the breastplate has gotten too tight and I couldn’t put it on, you know?”

“So you too?”

“You mean you too Nicole?”

“Yeah. The belt needs some adjusting.”

While saying that, I pulled my clothes a bit and checked my chest. The shade between the valley had indeed grown deeper. As for Michelle, the buttons on her shirt were having a hard time containing them, so there were gaps at the seams that gave a glimpse of her underwear.

“Hmm…hmmm?”

As I stared at her chest, I felt like someone else's gaze was on them too. Needless to say, it was Cloud, the only boy in the group.

“Hey, Cloud!”

“Agghh!?”

I punished him by pouring the hot cup of tea on his hand.

“Don’t direct wicked gazes at Michelle.”

“Please just warn me using words!”

“Yeah. Do not play with my tea.”

“Sorry about that.”

Gadius showed up with hot dogs of grilled bacon and scrambled eggs. I felt bad for wasting the drink that he made for us.

“Nicole, Michelle. It is too laborsome to have to make adjustments to both of your equipment, yes? If you wish, I can do it for you.”

“Huh, you don’t mind?”

“I’m still a Dwarf. I have enough skill to make some adjustments.”

“Naturally, for free right?”

“You are quite a shrewd one unlike Maria and Lyell. Goodness gracious.”

With a big sigh, Gadius accepted my request. But since he was not an expert, he could not guarantee the quality.

“But setting mine aside, it might be better to make Michelle’s one sturdier.”

“Huh, why?”

“I mean, it’s fine for your normal hunting bow, but normal armor would be insufficient when you use that one.”

“Ah, you have a point.”

Naturally, by that, I was referring to the Third Eye that was stored inside the suitcase on her back. Its bowstring had extremely strong resilience, so normal armor would not be able to fully protect her chest.

Rather, it could even lead to a big injury. This problem stood out more now when her chest had grown a lot.

“But I can’t think of any chest piece that could protect me from this bow.”

“Yeaaahhh.”

Normal armor would just be sent flying. The bow was powerful enough to do just that.

Michelle would need a suitable breastplate to continue mastering this bow. But the likely candidate for that… Well, I had one in my mind, but couldn’t voice it.

If I used the Evil Dragon’s materials, we could certainly make a suitable breastplate for her. But how would I explain it to her?

She would probably take it without suspecting a thing, but it would be hard to hide the thing from people. And there was also Gadius here who had seen the Evil Dragon up close. It wouldn’t be strange for him to suspect something if I suddenly brought those materials.

“Hmm…”

“For now, how about you just head to the Adventurers Guild? The rank promotion has a test. It’s not that hard so once you return from it, your equipment should be done too.”

“Will you finish it that fast?”

“Your equipment aside, Nicole’s only needs some belt fixing. I should be done by evening.”

“Mhh, so the difference in chest measurements shows its face here too…”

“What are you on about?”

Gadius slapped the back of my head and went back to the counter.

Once we finished our meals, Michelle and I went to our respective rooms to get our equipment.

Michelle’s equipment wasn’t up for using the Third Eye, but it could still be used for the normal hunting bow. As long as the chest area was adjusted, it would do the job for some time.

Once we entrusted the equipment to Gadius, we took the letter of recommendation and headed to the Guild.

There was apparently a test during the promotion, but we should rank up as long as we clear it and will be able to land better commissions.

With that, our shortage of money should go away too.

“Hey, hey! What kind of work can we take on once we are second rank?”

Michelle asked with sparkling eyes. She was also skipping about so her chest that wasn’t covered by the breastplate was swaying up and down.

Naturally, Cloud’s gaze and mine were glued to it. I was also to blame this time, so decided to postpone his punishment.

We headed to the Guild while having such a dazzling sight before us.

We headed straight for the counter and faced the receptionist lady that we had been interacting with the past week.

“Welcome. What kind of work would you be taking today?”

She addressed us with a smile with a peculiar oriental accent.

She seemed to be in her twenties. She wasn’t a peerless beauty, but her smile and warm tone made her quite popular.

“We brought Gadius’ recommendation for promotion.”

“Ohh, you’re finally taking it, hmm? I was just thinking it would be fine with your abilities.”

“Oh really?”

”Sir Gadius is on the careful side. That recommendation is enough to rank you up, but rules are rules.”

“I understand, please explain what we have to do.”

At my urging, the receptionist took out some papers. It turned out that the first test was about gathering the specified herbs. Next was a sham battle with the Guild’s examinee to ascertain the combat skill.

We could do that with the four of us, and it was there to see the battle power of the party.

“And so, you need to collect Corne grass. Small red flowers are the characteristics of it. The details are written in this identification manual.”

“I see, I see.”

As I turned the pages of the book provided along with the documents, I saw red flowers depicted inside. According to the description, they apparently bloomed at the nearby lake.

“It’s surprisingly close.”

“Well of course, this is a beginner's exam, after all. If it was that difficult, no one would be able to rank up, right?”

“Touche.”

If we needed to gather flowers that bloomed nearby here, we didn’t need to depend on the Third Eye.

Because of the exam, we would be leaving Stollar for the first time.
