Reborn: The Unexpected Twist
Chapter 4 - Bakery
Jinhee's eyes scanned through the writings in the book, trying to imprint their knowledge into her mind. History was a subject Jinhee was not well-versed, and therefore, she was required to put more effort into it.
Her concentration was disturbed when the sound of chair pulled back entered into her ears, and turning left, she glanced at Taehee beside her. Although it confused Jinhee why Taehee chose to sit beside her during lunch, Jinhee didn't question anything about it.
"Everytime you're rude to me, it hurts." A pout formed on Taehee's face.
Surprise caught Jinhee as she heard Taehee's words. Although she knew that Taehee had a playful personality, she didn't expect Taehee to be so straightforward with her.
Nonetheless, Taehee's words managed to give rise to guilt within Jinhee, since this Taehee did no harm to Jinhee and showed no impolite actions to her. However, Jinhee's resolution was not that weak.
"I have no time to spare over unnecessary things," Jinhee replied despite how painfully her heart clenched at her own words.
Taehee thrusted out her lower lip more and continuously blinked her eyes continuously. Her pout became more evident while she said, "There's no one for me to hang out with, and I'm bored. Please accompany me."
If it was in her previous life, Jinhee would've readily jumped with excitement. However, since she was no longer the same, Jinhee shook her head, indicating a no, at Taehee's words.
"I have works to complete," Jinhee voiced out concisely, praying that Taehee would give up on her and find someone else to pester.
Jinhee was sure that as long as Taehee says the word, there would be numerous willing to spend time with her.
"Isn't this the homework for Tuesday? I have a copy of 'Chronicles of Famous Places'," Taehee stated— her tone and eyes holding confidence.
The book 'Chronicles of Famous Places' was the recommended book for this history homework. However, there was no copy available for it in the library, and it would at least take two to three days if Jinhee ordered it online.
Since a copy of the book was rare and expensive, there was extremely low chance of it being present in the public libraries. Therefore, since Jinhee decided to pay extra attention to studies this time, Taehee's offer sounded tempting to her.
There was no possibility that Taehee was lying to her because in her previous life, Taehee lent the book to Jinhee. However, the scene did not play out like this.
"Fine. What do you want to do?" Jinhee shut close the book in her hand and placed it down on the table. Spending few hours with Taehee won't do any harm to Jinhee.
A smile broke out onto Taehee's face, and she exclaimed, "Follow me!"
It came off as a surprise to Jinhee when Taehee dragged her into the bakery named 'Delights'. Jinhee recalled that in her previous life, out of all bakeries, Taehee was fond of this the most.
Delights was owned by young lady in her early thirties, and it was well-known in the entire Gangnam-gu. The owner to this, Oh Jangmi, was a internationally recognised patisserie, and her baked goods left an unforgettable impression on whoever had a mere single taste of them.
The first floor was always found crowded, and reservation has to be set two to three days ahead of time. Only a selected few can visit the second floor, and Jinhee was allowed previous time due to Taehee.
Nonetheless, she visited 'Delights' much later in her previous life, and therefore, she did not understand what was so different this time. Hardly anyone was bought here by Taehee, and this caused Jinhee to question one thing.
Did Taehee consider her as a close friend already?
This can not be happening since Taehee did not trust one easily despite her playful nature, and it took a lot of efforts on her part to get Taehee as her best friend in her previous life.
Everything she did this life was to distance herself from Taehee, and numerous times she was rude to Taehee. It would be beyond surprising and unexpected for Taehee to bring her to the second floor of the bakery.
Jinhee stared at Taehee, who wore a bright expression, cautiously.
There were definitely some changes with Taehee since, as much as Jinhee knew Taehee, Taehee wasn't the one to bother with someone who ignores her.
"Jangmi Unnie! I bought a friend with me!" Taehee yelled out.
Taehee pulled out a chair and spoke, "Have a seat, Jinhee. I'll go and bring unnie."
Paying no heed to Taehee's courteous actions, Jinhee nodded and sat down on the chair. Her hands drew circles on the table subconsciously while she waited for Taehee to return.
One to two minutes later, the door to kitchen opened, and Jinhee stood up from her seat. Turning back, she saw two females walking out of the kitchen whilst wearing a joyful expression.
Jangmi's around 5'3 figure appeared short beside Taehee, and despite being in thirties, she looked to be someone in her mid twenties. An apron hugged her figure, and a gentle look wore on her face.
"Hello there! I'm Oh Jangmi," Jangmi introduced.
