#45 - Encirclement and Suppression (Second update, there will be another update in the evening)
Empress Maria sat upon her magnificent throne, a sardonic smile playing on her lips. Her voice was sharp and piercing, like the biting winter wind.
“Mariasia, you come before me today, perhaps to beg for my mercy? Your House Harron is now a setting sun. Do you think you can reverse the situation with your power alone?”
Empress Mariasia sat quietly on the lower seat. Facing Empress Maria’s mockery, she showed no anger or unease. A faint smile graced her face, and her eyes sparkled with determination and composure.
“Empress Maria, your words are amusing. I have not come to beg for mercy, but to seek a common path forward. The rise and fall of House Harron is not something I alone can decide, nor can you.”
Empress Maria sneered, a flicker of anger in her eyes.
“What a joke! House Harron’s downfall is a foregone conclusion. What right do you have to parade before me? If the occasion were not inappropriate, I would have you thrown out of here!”
Empress Mariasia was not intimidated by Empress Maria’s anger. She remained calm and resolute, saying, “Empress Maria, your anger will only cloud your judgment. Though House Harron is temporarily set back, our power should not be underestimated. I merely hope that we can find an opportunity for peaceful coexistence, or even join forces against the others.”
Empress Maria was silent for a moment, her anger seemingly subsiding. She re-examined Empress Mariasia, the mockery in her eyes intensified. Nicholas's chances of becoming Crown Prince were several times higher than those of the other princes and princesses. Apart from Prince Samuel, Empress Nina's son whom Gustav despised, no one could threaten Nicholas's position.
It could be said that Empress Maria's position in the palace was now at its zenith. Even Empress Elizabeth had to give way a little. Someone who could barely hold on to her position as empress, what right did she have to talk about joining forces with her.
Perhaps because she was confident of victory, Empress Maria inadvertently let slip their upcoming plot against House Harron.
“Mariasia, you should return! The encirclement of House Harron is inevitable.”
Empress Mariasia's eyes flashed with a fierce glint.
Just then, Soren hurried over, his gaze immediately locking onto Empress Mariasia, who was already waiting there. The anxiety in his heart dissipated a little. He knew that Empress Mariasia's appearance might be the key to his escape from his predicament.
Although Empress Maria's heart was ablaze with anger, as a member of the royal family, she had to maintain the appropriate decorum.
She did not want to become a laughingstock by blaming her son in front of outsiders. So, she tried to calm her emotions and said to Empress Mariasia in as calm a tone as possible: "Empress Mariasia, now that my son has arrived, I will no longer keep you here for dinner." Although her words revealed politeness, the intention to send her away was very clear.
Empress Mariasia chuckled upon hearing this. The laughter sounded like a needle prick to Empress Maria. She smiled slightly and replied, "Empress Maria, you are too kind. I haven't seen Soren in a long time. If it were just for dinner, let's leave it for next time! I have already asked the Empress Dowager for instructions when I came. I plan to take Soren to visit her later."
Empress Mariasia's words not only expressed her intentions but also cleverly defused Empress Maria's intention to send her away.
Empress Maria's face darkened when Empress Mariasia mentioned Empress Dowager Epiphany. She knew that Mariasia was using the Empress Dowager as a shield, and she had no reason to force them to stay.
It was reasonable and filial for her grandson Soren to pay his respects to his grandmother and have dinner with her. If she forcibly stopped him, she would probably be accused of disrespecting the Empress Dowager.
So, Empress Maria had to suppress her anger and said to Soren, "Soren, remember to come to your mother's place after dinner. Your mother has something important to tell you." Although her tone was as calm as possible, the majesty and unquestionable authority it contained were self-evident.
Soren quickly responded respectfully, "Yes, Mother." He knew very well that Empress Maria had summoned him, certainly for the Wenck Royal Estate, and perhaps even to have him assist Nicholas.
Afterward, Empress Mariasia took Soren to the Amber Palace. Along the way, the two were silent, each immersed in their thoughts. It was not until they arrived in front of the Amber Palace that Mariasia broke the silence and asked, "Soren, have you made up your mind?"
Soren smiled wryly and replied, "Mother, I have no choice. Now I can only ask you to take me in." His tone revealed helplessness and firmness, and he was obviously ready to face the future.
"Good, as long as you do not betray House Harron, House Harron will definitely do everything in its power to help you fight for the throne." Now that Soren had expressed his attitude, Empress Mariasia also immediately expressed the support of House Harron.
The two, who had been unknown and inconspicuous in the palace, would soon shock the entire imperial capital with the power and determination they would unleash after joining forces.
Arriving in front of the Amber Palace, Empress Mariasia respectfully called out, "Mariasia greets the Empress Dowager!"
"You've come! Come in!" A gentle but powerful response came from the palace, as if inviting Empress Mariasia into that world full of power and wisdom.
From that moment on, Mariasia's posture seemed to have been renewed. She stood up straight, like an ancient tree standing in the wind and rain, tough and unyielding. Her steps were firm and powerful, as if each step was declaring her determination and belief to the world.
The afterglow of the setting sun shone on her body, and the golden light gave her a sacred halo. As she stepped onto the steps of the Amber Palace, her back appeared even more majestic and solemn in the sunset. Soren stood below, staring at Empress Mariasia's firm back, and a sense of indescribable admiration welled up in his heart.
He knew that Mariasia at this moment was no longer the unknown empress, but the pillar of House Harron, a strong backing on his path to fight for the throne.
Opposite the Amber Palace, the towering Emerald Palace of Empress Elizabeth stood. The afterglow of the setting sun shone on the glazed tiles of the Emerald Palace, shimmering with brilliant light, as if shrouding the entire palace in a golden dream.
Elizabeth stood gracefully in front of the terrace. She leaned gently against the railing of the terrace, her eyes distant and deep, seemingly admiring the beauty of the sunset, or perhaps thinking about something. Her gaze inadvertently fell on the steps of the Amber Palace opposite, where Empress Mariasia and Soren were walking into the palace step by step.
