#83 - Broken Sword
When Corinna heard the commotion outside, she picked up the sword in her hand and waited quietly, trying not to get involved in the battle as much as possible.
Although she already possessed the strength of a Great Knight, cultivation didn't equate to combat prowess.
Joining the battle haphazardly might instead bring trouble to others.
The men in black obviously knew that Corinna was staying at the manor villa, and went straight to Corinna's room, breaking down the door, only to be met head-on by this brave royal princess.
"Don't move!" the black-clad leader shouted, "Otherwise, don't blame me for being impolite!"
Corinna, however, showed no fear. She sneered, and the sword in her hand darted out like a nimble snake. The magic shield on the man in black didn't even last a second before shattering instantly, and then the serrated knight's sword chopped off the black-clad leader's arm.
Blood spurted out, and the black-clad man's screams echoed in the night sky.
The fear that was originally on Corinna's face turned cold the instant the door was broken open, as if she had become a different person, her tone icy and authoritative.
"You villains dare to be insolent in front of me!"
Corinna stood with her sword, the tip still dripping with blood, but her eyes were colder than the blade.
The men in black were intimidated by the aura of this royal princess.
"A demon-breaking sword!"
The man in black clutched his severed arm, his body slumped against the wall, he understood that tonight's mission had completely failed.
"Heh heh!"
The man in black chuckled softly twice, and his whole body slowly collapsed to the ground.
Manster rushed into the room at the first opportunity, and was slightly relieved to see that Corinna was unharmed: "Your Highness, please step back, leave the rest to this old servant."
Corinna nodded.
Manster looked at the fallen man in black on the ground, a hint of coldness flashing in his eyes. He quickly checked the man in black's condition, removed the mask, revealing a disfigured face burned by flames, with black blood still spilling from the corner of his mouth, confirming that he was already dead.
Manster turned around and said to Corinna, "Your Highness, the man is already dead, I will take care of the body. Please retreat to a safe place first."
Corinna nodded. Although she was brave, she also knew her limits. She wasn't a reckless person, the battle just now was just self-preservation in a moment of desperation. She put away the sword in her hand, walked out of the room, stood in the corridor, and watched Manster deal with the man in black.
Manster cast a Mage Hand on the corpse, directly crushing his heart, not giving him any chance to revive.
The manor guards also rushed over quickly after hearing the commotion. They were relieved to see that the man in black was dead and Corinna was safe and sound.
Most of these guards were newcomers to the manor. The old guards had all been taken away by Gustav. The strength of these new guards was only at the standard of a normal royal manor. The strongest didn't exceed the fourth rank, and most were at the second and third rank. Such strength would already be considered elite outside.
But facing tonight's assassins, they were still somewhat lacking. From beginning to end, they could only chase from behind, unable to catch up at all.
After Manster finished dealing with the man in black, he walked to Corinna's side and said in a low voice, "Your Highness, these people were originally aiming for the refined salt workshop. In the end, unable to break through, they went straight for the villa. Judging from the other party's reaction, they should have been aiming for you. Obviously, they knew your whereabouts and came specifically to attack. We must strengthen the manor's defenses to prevent similar incidents from happening again."
Corinna nodded in agreement, a hint of determination flashing in her eyes.
Corinna asked, "Has the Purple Gourd Field been damaged?"
Manster respectfully said, "Reporting to Your Highness, no!"
After learning that the Purple Gourd Field was safe and sound, the big stone in Corinna's heart finally fell to the ground. She didn't ask any more trivial matters, but instead, under Manster's careful arrangement, went to another room to rest.
When she learned that this room was usually Seventh Royal Brother Soren's resting place, Corinna's eyes immediately sparkled with a bright light.
Manster made such an arrangement out of many considerations. The three most distinguished rooms in the manor already had their own owners, and Corinna was repulsed by Yasso's room and unwilling to set foot in it.
Therefore, Manster could only choose Soren's room. After all, Soren only lived there briefly when he first arrived at the manor, and hasn't stayed overnight here recently, and the sheets and bedding are brand new.
"This is Royal Brother's room, this bed, it really is comfortable." Corinna couldn't wait to lie on the bed, rolling around to her heart's content, her face filled with satisfaction and intoxication.
The news of the assassin attack on the Wenk Royal Manor spread like wildfire, reaching every corner of the palace.
Surprisingly, most people didn't show much concern or curiosity when they heard that the victim was Royal Princess Corinna.
This night of fierce fighting was like an endless cultivation, until the first rays of dawn appeared, and the flames of desire in Soren's heart gradually subsided.
"If you keep suppressing yourself like this, you will eventually push yourself to the brink of collapse." The voice of the Endless Blade sounded in Soren's ear again, with a hint of temptation: "Why not follow your heart and release that desire?"
Soren gently waved, shaking off the blood stains on the knight's sword, his tone calm and firm: "If I can't even have this bit of self-control, how can I talk about fighting for the throne and dominating the continent? My path is destined to be full of thorns and trials, I must always remain clear-headed and firm."
"Oh? That's really a bit regrettable." A hint of disappointment was revealed in the voice of the Endless Blade: "Why don't you use me to kill enemies, but instead choose this broken sword?"
The "broken sword" referred to by the Endless Blade was actually a top-quality knight's sword carefully selected from the palace. If it fell into the hands of adventurers outside, its price would probably easily reach thousands of gold coins, making it a treasure.
"Are you afraid? Afraid that you will be swallowed by that endless gluttonous desire." The tone of the Endless Blade was full of mockery: "Don't worry, as long as the growth of your physique doesn't exceed your own cultivation, you will still be able to firmly control that power."
