Rise of the Argentine Empire
#27 - Exploring the truth and seeing you again, Commander
The next day, Wednesday morning.
He had gradually adapted to his new residence, and Saint Hesser had even taken advantage of a rare sunny day a few days prior to air out his bedding on the roof.
After eating breakfast in the morning, he left at half past seven. Most of the people renting nearby were just getting up, and few people like Saint Hesser went to work so early.
He arrived at the Chief of Staff's office at 8:00 AM and asked Chief of Staff Yurika for a day off, planning to go to the glass factory in the morning to investigate the situation on the ground.
In the morning, he also went to headquarters to schedule a meeting with Commander Thompson in the afternoon.
Now, sneaking off to the glass factory still required him to personally go, which was a bit awkward. He was even considering whether to first organize a commercial intelligence department, as it definitely wasn't good for him to handle such small matters himself.
But with no one available, he had no choice. After all, Klose's main job wasn't this, and he was handling many things at the factory.
Currently, there were two suitable candidates for the sales system: Nix, who was in charge of the Buenos Aires province sales area, and Lucifer, who was in charge of the northern four provinces and also Klose's distant nephew.
After a period of observation, their sales results were significant. These two were also recommended by Klose, and they were indeed doing well and could be trusted. After all, his era of fighting alone was over, and now doing big things relied on a team.
The sales department was outsourced by Prarie Company, and now they regularly reported their work to Saint Hesser alone by phone every week. Perhaps establishing an intelligence department could be considered starting from the sales department.
At 9:00 AM, after arranging the leave and appointment, Saint Hesser first returned home to change his clothes. Then, he waited for a bus at the bus stop in front of his door, planning to take it to Sean Glass Factory on Sunflower Avenue.
Saint Hesser wore a thin sweater, an old coat, a hat, a pair of jeans bought from a used goods market, and a pair of old leather shoes, dressed like an ordinary worker, to investigate the factory's true situation.
Arriving at the Puen Road stop on Sunflower Avenue and getting off the bus, he was still more than a kilometer away from Sean Glass Factory and planned to walk there.
It wasn't his first time coming to Sean Glass Factory. He remembered that the last time he came, he was wearing a suit and tie, and the factory director at that time had treated him very well.
There weren't so many weeds before, and the outside of the factory was quite clean. Now, looking around, even the letters on the sign of Sean Glass Factory had fallen off. The change was significant. This was where his dream began.
Now there were no guards at the factory gate, and the gate was tightly closed. There were noisy sounds inside. Were they planning to make him climb over the wall? The changes in just two months were a bit big.
Pretending to pass by the factory area, he slowly approached the glass factory. With a creak, the gate suddenly opened, and a luxurious car slowly drove out. Old rival Zhang Pusi and someone else he didn't recognize were sitting in the back seat. Saint Hesser lowered his hat. Sure enough, things weren't as simple as they seemed on the surface.
Glancing towards the gate, it seemed that the noisy sounds had gradually subsided. Saint Hesser stood outside the wall, took out a pack of low-quality cigarettes, skillfully lit one, and leisurely smoked.
"Cough, cough, cough," Saint Hesser choked. This was the first time this body had smoked.
"Our factory shouldn't go bankrupt. Councilor Zhang Pusi is now fully in charge, introducing foreign-funded enterprises. Once the acquisition is successful, we will make up the wages as soon as possible. All the old employees will be kept, and maybe even get a raise," He remembered this voice. It was a fatty, the former factory director.
"Why don't everyone just leave today? We won't be working today. It's estimated that the acquisition will be successful in a few days," This fatty was quite eloquent and good at bragging. The workers' voices gradually quieted down.
He didn't expect the commotion to end at twelve o'clock. Maybe it was almost lunchtime, or maybe the negotiations were already over.
Good heavens, someone really wants to mess with me.
The workers were originally noisy and shouting slogans. Saint Hesser jumped up and took a look. These workers were sitting there motionless. Finally, under the persuasion of the little fatty factory director, they left the factory grumbling.
It was estimated that they had been fooled by this little fatty factory director several times, but unfortunately, they were hungry and could only take a step first.
Saint Hesser followed behind a forty-year-old man walking alone. This squirrel-like man with chubby cheeks jogged slowly a few hundred meters away from the factory area before approaching him.
"Hey, buddy, want one?" He skillfully offered two cigarettes.
"Oh, thank you, thank you," This squirrel-like man wasn't polite and took one. Saint Hesser quickly leaned forward and lit it for him.
The squirrel-like man skillfully started smoking, exhaling clouds of smoke, and his face also relaxed a little.
"Hey buddy, where do you work? You're so late for work this morning, that's nice."
"Late my ass, the factory's bankrupt!" Speaking of his sore spot, the squirrel-like man spat fiercely.
"What's the situation?"
"We're from the glass factory. The factory director didn't do anything right. A good factory just didn't pay wages, saying it was going to go bankrupt. Later, it was going to be sold to some damn foreign businessman..."
"Is that so? I was originally going to ask if your factory needed workers."
"I haven't been paid for three months. I heard there are orders, but they just don't pay. Many people have left, and some haven't been paid for half a year..."
"Is that so? Old brother, take these cigarettes to smoke. I have something to do and I'm going to look around other places," Saint Hesser said, stuffing the cigarettes into the squirrel-like man's hand.
"Thanks, brother!" The squirrel-like man showed a mouthful of black teeth, tightly holding the cigarettes, afraid that Saint Hesser would take them back. He seemed to be a heavy smoker.
Saint Hesser waved his hand and left. There was indeed something fishy going on inside. However, he couldn't handle this nemesis on his own, so he had to ask the commander to help.
...
He also went to the cannery to check on the production situation, gave a few instructions, and stabilized morale.
At four o'clock in the afternoon, Saint Hesser came to the entrance of the command headquarters on time, familiar with the road. Led by the young lady, he knocked on the door and walked into the commander's office.
Saint Hesser looked at Commander Thompson. His neatly combed hair was meticulous, with azure blue eyes and a small mustache. The majesty and pressure on his body were even heavier. He looked somewhat apprehensive and nervous, standing in front of the desk.
He started today's purpose,
"Respected Commander, hello, I am taking the liberty of disturbing you. This time I am here to ask you for help," Saint Hesser's voice trembled, and he went straight to the point. This matter really needed a quick decision.
"Oh? What is it?" Commander Thompson's expression did not change, he just asked in a calm tone.
"It's like this, Commander, some civil servants in our city are trying to collude with foreign businessmen to undermine our city's economy," Saint Hesser organized his words.
"Get to the point."
"Someone wants to sabotage the sales of the factory under my name, and at the same time try to undermine national policies and create bad debts for President Biron's loans."
"Someone wants to mess with you?" Thompson was somewhat surprised.
"Yes, Commander, it's Sean Glass Factory. They are trying to disrupt the security of our city, their intentions are punishable..." Saint Hesser was just about to finish explaining the ins and outs.
"Okay, I know. Go back and wait for my news. Also, go back and work hard," Thompson interrupted Saint Hesser's long speech.
"Yes, Commander," Saint Hesser quickly saluted, and then exited the commander's room.
Since the commander had spoken, it should be settled. With the attention of a big shot, at least the glass factory would not have major problems in the short term.
After Thompson made two phone calls, the matter was settled directly.
He returned to the staff headquarters to continue working. The stone in his heart was finally half-way down. He hadn't slept all night last night, feeling worried, and wanted to go back to catch up on sleep, but he still endured it.
After work, Saint Hesser had just arrived at the entrance of Plari's office when he saw Klose waiting for Saint Hesser with a smile on his face, looking quite excited, with dark circles under his eyes, it seemed that he hadn't slept well last night either.
After all, the boss paid a high salary, and he probably wouldn't get such good treatment if he went to other factories.
"Boss, Sean Glass Factory has resumed production. You are so amazing, my God, Holy Mary..." Klose said exaggeratedly with admiration in his eyes.
"Well, it's good that it's been settled. You've worked hard, go back and rest first," Saint Hesser interrupted Klose's speech, and didn't expect that Klose was a Catholic, not a Protestant from the Old World. It seemed that the environment had a great influence on people.
Saint Hesser breathed a sigh of relief. He still needed to have some backing. Now he was a weakling, and whoever caught him would fleece him. Champs was a son of a bitch messing around.
He wasn't in a hurry, so he simply went home and slept for more than an hour before slowly waking up.
He changed into old clothes and went to the gate of the glass factory to take a look from afar. Sure enough, production had resumed. He saw them changing shifts to come out for dinner, and secretly found Squirrel Brother to ask about the specific situation.
As usual, he gave out cigarettes, and listened to Squirrel Brother saying that a big shot had intervened and directly reissued the back wages, and also asked Saint Hesser if he wanted to come to work, he could introduce him.
He also asked if the factory was producing glass bottle orders or other orders.
"Hey, I heard that they are producing glass bottles for the soda factory in the city. The order quantity is quite large, but now they are all machine-produced, which is different from before. Back then, I was an apprentice at the age of 15, blowing glass for more than ten years, and then I was unemployed. Now I can only make a living by working..." Squirrel Brother really relaxed now, and bragged about his glorious history with Saint Hesser.
Saint Hesser listened carefully, and then said that a friend might come over, and he would see at that time.
He personally ran to the factory to see that they were producing Saint Hesser's order, and it should have survived this crisis.
He chatted with Squirrel Brother for a while, found the old restaurant, and drank three bottles of soda from his own soda factory in one breath. He was about to throw them in the trash can as usual, when the boss immediately reminded Saint Hesser to put the bottles in that wooden box. They would all be recycled in the future and could not be taken away.
Saint Hesser nodded seriously and then put the bottles away. Saint Hesser gave the boss a cigarette and chatted with him, saying that the soda factory was recycling bottles, two pesos per bottle, and they would be returned directly when delivering the goods, or they could be deducted from the purchase price. He said that the soda factory was doing a good job, very humane, everyone liked to drink it, and the price was affordable.
